Project-independent quality assessments
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class=
parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom
parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:42, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

There is a current RFC on a page that is a part of this Wikiproject. The RFC summary is as follows:
This article about two Victorian crossdressers currently ends with a limerick in which an animal being sodomized asks the perpetrator if he had mistaken the animal for the two article subjects. There are two questions for consideration: (1) Should this limerick end the article, as it currently does? and (2) Should the text of the limerick be included?
Any participation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, --Jerome Frank Disciple 14:26, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

Adding a sentence
{{Please see Wikipedia:Teahouse#Adding_a_sentence_to_the_Rape_in_Islamic_law_article}}
I was redirected to ask here from the Teahouse. To the, "Self defence" section of the Rape in Islamic law article, I want to add, "However, nowadays, a person who kills a rapist or potential rapist in self defence can be tried and convicted for murder.[1][2][3]
" but will it pass muster? Can someone suggest some better text I can add to summarise those sources, so that they are acceptable?-

Proposed edits to existing article
Hi everyone, I am a student at Rice University who is planning on editing the Homelessness in the United States by state article. For more information, you can see details about my plan on my user page and sandbox. I've added this article in the Human Rights WikiTopic as a mid importance article. Please let me know if anyone has any feedback.
Pouchwarm (talk) 03:46, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- I see your "outline of proposed changes" and have some feedback.
- What you are doing, and what happens on Wikipedia, is a sort of "literature review". This means that you can report information that you find in reliable sources, and that you cannot report what you do not find in those sources.
- Wikipedia has standards for WP:Reliable sources. Some of the sources you have listed in your draft bibliography do not meet that standard.
- Instead of planning what information you will write, consider going to the library with no agenda and simply finding the best sources of information you can find on the topic. I suspect that you will not find reliable sources that match your expectations.
- After finding the best sources you can possibly find, then read those sources and report in Wikipedia whatever they say. Plan your changes around whatever is in the sources, and especially if you see issues raised in multiple sources, even if it is not the information that you imagined before doing the research. In Need of Advice
Hi! I am a student who will be creating a new article covering "Human Trafficking in Houston". I hope to bring awareness/educational information and a municipal perspective to a global issue. Houston is a major spot for trafficking activity and I believe it is important to create a new entry covering the city's part in Human Trafficking. I am happy to hear any advice or feedback, so feel free to visit my user page. Ctrlxem (talk) 05:37, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Ctrlxem: Normally I would recommend against making such a specific article for a city, but I know something about this issue in Houston, this is a case where there are lots of sources.
- You already checked out Human_trafficking_in_Texas#Houston and said on your talk page that you have more information to share than can fit in a subsection on the state article. That is a good reason to establish a new article if you have the sources, and I know you can get them.
- Follow the general Wikipedia editing advice of starting in the library and finding the best sources before outlining your plan. Doing library research upfront before planning your article is a strategy that often works well. Bluerasberry (talk) 15:26, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your help!!! I will be continuing with my plan of creating the article (of course with your advice in mind). Once I have a draft of my article in my sandbox, would you mind checking it out?
- Again, thank you for the response! Ctrlxem (talk) 14:43, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Ctrlxem: Yes ping me when you have something.
- @Bluerasberry: I have made a brief summary about what content it will contain, so feel free to check my sandbox linked in my user page! I still am working on gathering citations and specifying the page numbers, and am aware that some links might be broken. Please let me know what you think, thanks!

Hi Everyone
Hello! I am a student at Rice University writing a new article titled "Human Trafficking of North Korean Women in China." I believe this issue is important in the human rights realm, so I have added the WikiProject to the parent article. (Evelyn4712 (talk) 04:12, 1 October 2023 (UTC))
Look to this sandbox for more information. The neighborhood really has a lot of history that should be included and displayed for the world to see. The article will be about Comuna 13 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Alecprofit Alecprofit (talk) 03:16, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Evelyn4712: Do what you feel is best. Everyone has different results and ideas.
- I will suggest that you consider instead developing either Human trafficking in North Korea or Human trafficking in China, which are already established with other context, have traffic, and have major gaps in their development. A likely route that readers would take to find "Human Trafficking of North Korean Women in China" is through one of those, so your proposed article would interconnect with those anyway.
- Before you decide to establish that new article, make sure you have found good reasons to do so rather than just developing and updating what already exists. There are lots of good reasons to make the article you describe; drawbacks include that new articles take significantly more work and every intersection, intersectional articles, "only North Koreans", "being trafficked to only China", and "only women", get much less traffic than the broader concepts. Bluerasberry (talk) 15:17, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Bluerasberry: Thank you so much for your advice! I asked my professor about integrating my work into one of the existing articles like Human trafficking in North Korea or Human trafficking in China but she said she thought this information important enough to stand on its own. I will talk to her about your suggestions (as I do agree with them) and I will get back to you on what I end up doing! As for the article traffic, my professor has encouraged me to link my article to others and link other articles in mine, so I am not too worried about it. I also think awareness about this topic is slowly growing globally, so the attention my article gets should grow with it. Thanks again! (Evelyn4712 (talk) 18:24, 10 October 2023 (UTC))
- @Evelyn4712: Yes, I agree that it is an important topic which can stand on its own. Good luck developing it and I will support you whatever you decide. If you want comment when you have something to share then ping me. Thanks. Bluerasberry (talk) 18:38, 10 October 2023 (UTC)

Merging articles about Afro-pessimism
There are 2 articles related to Afro-pessimism right now:
Other philosophies and theories don't have parentheses with location that a theory may comment on and it doesn't make sense to include it in these in my understanding. Afro-pessimism speaks widely to conditions affecting Black people, and subsections of a merged article could describe different regional contexts and meanings of the term. We should not have 2 separate articles, a merge of these articles should be a priority with these pages. Thoughts from experts? Hexatekin (talk) 04:07, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

Internment of Japanese Americans - Article name and terminology used in article text
Despite the consensus seeming to be in favour of keeping "internment" as the title of Internment of Japanese Americans, the article's text now solely uses the term "incarceration". Consistency between the two would be preferred, especially since the change to the article's text seems to have been made recently without discussion. Eldomtom2 (talk) 13:21, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

Freedom
2025 is clearly against most freedoms. I was surprised when I read it. And taking away rights, is wrong. One party should be in charge for ever on both sides of the aisle and the presidency. is actually no different than what the Democrats are trying to do by bringing so many illegal people to vote so they never lose power. On the opening, it says Trump is part of it. That is not true. So why do you have his name on it? And if he’s not part of this. you stated that on a different page. I can now see why people are confused and blaming Trump for 2025. I am a conservative independent. And even most of these things cross or I think freedom is taken away. or decided on someone else. I think you owe it to Trump to clear this up once and for all and explain he is not part of 2025. Or your handing the election to the Democrats. 69.170.208.61 (talk) 16:19, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

Solitary confinement of women in the United States
Could some member or members of this WikiProject take a look at Solitary confinement of women in the United States? It kind of reads more like an essay or academic paper than encyclopedic article from the very first sentence. It's also been recently expanded quite a bit recently by a student editor participating in a WP:WEP course and the newly added content might need some assessing from some Wikipedians more experienced in dealing with this kind of subject. The discussions on the article's talk page seem a bit contentious despite mostly being a couple years old. Anyway, I'm asking about it here because this is one of WikiProjects whose banner is found on the article's talk page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:19, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for flagging this! I'll try to take a look sometime in the coming days and do a bit of work on it! Arcendeight (talk) 14:23, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
2021 West Bengal post-poll violence
The article 2021 West Bengal post-poll violence seems to have come clear WP:NPOV issues, at least in its language. (see my post on the Talk page) This, combined with the dubious quality of its sources, leads me to believe that there may be other issues with the article's POV. If anyone would be able to investigate/assess the article further, it would be much appreciated. There are also some general tone issues that need fixing. Project revival
I've noticed that this project is listed as being "semi-active", which seems like a huge shame to me, since it is also arguably one of the most important Wikiprojects on the site (not denigrating other projects, just saying). I'm wondering:
(a) if people are still active
(b) if there are any administrative tasks that need doing (I'm not really interested in participating in arbitration discussions, which seem hugely important to this project, but beyond my mental/emotional capacity at this time, but would be happy to help maintain the project page, for example, or maybe even write periodic newsletters/updates on the status of the project)
(c) if anyone has any perspective on what is involved in Wikiproject administration/revival beyond what is available of Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide. For example, would it be bad project etiquette if I started cleaning up the main project page myself? Are there specific project heads that I should be in contact with, or is the structure more decentralized?
Anyway, hope to see this project revived one way or another. Spookyaki (talk) 22:56, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- I am not sure if I can help outside of saying that marking any project as inactive is bad because it can result in deletion of its assessment scheme (I complained about it in the VP a while back, to little progress). So I oppose marking this project as inactive.
- I am interested in the topic of human rights and can participate in discussions here if pinged. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:46, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I have edited or created some articles on human rights related to China. I have also checked this WikiProject Human Rights listing to clean up articles. Maybe other seasoned editors can weight in on administrative tasks necessary to revive the project. Thank you. Path2space (talk) 02:35, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your interest in this @Spookyaki. To your first question, I am somewhat active and edit semi-regularly, but rarely check this project anymore; though I would if it became more active (chicken and egg!). In fact, were it not for your ping I doubt I would have seen this discussion for quite some time -- so thank you. I'm afraid I can't offer any additional advice on your second and third questions beyond what the others have said so far. Warmly. Arcendeight (talk) 14:15, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Spookyaki, thank you for this. I have been reviewing and trying to improve some pages on indigenous human rights in North America (also Canada). I am interested from a historical point of view, but also from a current point of view. I would also like to review some content in the context of ‘climate refugees’, a new concept that has not been dealt with as much. AyubuZimbale (talk) 15:02, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
- Would you be alright if I pinged you every so often about your subjects of interest? Spookyaki (talk) 18:11, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks everyone for your responses! For now, at some point, I think I might endeavor to at least do some cleanup on the project page. Spookyaki (talk) 19:31, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, Spookyaki, for your initiative and your good questions. Here are my answers:
(a) I'm only semi-active, too, and haven't been active here for years.
(b) If one looks, one can always find some things to clean up; e.g. one could check why the first three topics on this page (such as #Footnotes) are empty and restore their content, if any, or remove the headlines. But since it seems there has been no collaboration in this project in the last four years (which i assume from the fact that there was no discussion in that time; only one of the topics - IHL and human wave attacks/cannon fodder - elicited a response in 2021) and there were no requests for any such work, it's questionable whether it's worth your time.
(c) As someone who hasn't been involved in reviving any WP (other than briefly WP:SLR last year) i can't add any perspective beyond the Guide. At least in theory, Wikipedia shouldn't have „specific project heads“, but it's good that you're circumspect. In this case, i see no reason to worry about that, since nobody has shown to assume such a role at least for four years, nor in the week since you asked here. I don't think it would be bad etiquette to clean up things here, but, as mentioned in my reply (b), it may not be worth your time.
Piotrus, it's nice to see you're still around. I disagree, though, with your statement: Marking projects as inactive is good and necessary. Inactive projects are a drain of commitment, time and - worse - of hope. Think of an editor who comes here with a problem (a human rights problem, which can be the most severe problems!) with the hope to find help here, only to find dead silence. For all i know, nobody may even have this project page on their watchlist anymore; i for one came here only because Spookyaki pinged me. ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 07:09, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- I don't have any guidance on administration, but I'm still active and happy to work the project. My focus in regards to this project has been on China/Tibet/HongKong, but I can contribute to other topics, though I have less background knowledge and experience. Thanks @Spookyaki for starting a revival of the project. —Zujine|talk 13:21, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
