How to use this page

[edit]
Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Making a request

[edit]

Before asking volunteers to look for your source, try finding it yourself with the tools at your disposal.

In particular, eligible editors can use the Wikipedia Library, which gives access to content provided by numerous academic publishers.

  • Though we would prefer you to ask for a specific journal, article or work, we will accept open-ended questions. You can ask for all kinds of sources here, either on this page or by writing directly to an active user.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, date and identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc. Indicate which article you need this for.
  • Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot send you full book/thesis copies. Narrow down your request to a specific chapter or page(s).
  • Add the {{Resolved}} template when your request is completed.
  • Filled requests are archived. Requests unfilled after three months will also be archived.

Fulfilling a request

[edit]
Copyright tips
  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Limit sharing content online that the copyright holders have restricted access to to the minimum level: only to the individuals who need it, only to the minimal degree necessary to fulfil the request and only to improve Wikipedia. We share content under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose to improve our articles or create new ones.
  • Whenever possible, share copies privately. You should not upload copyrighted copies from print publications or online databases for unrestricted distribution via open websites.
  • Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks. Check the laws of your jurisdiction to make sure you are comfortable and safe giving access to it.

I can't help you with that one, I'm afraid. Old printed magazines are notoriously hard to find nowadays and that's a problem I'm also facing myself. A link to WorldCat like this ISSN 1065-1667 might help. But if nothing helps and a request gets archived, I manually search online catalogs of various libraries and then ask editors who have access to these libraries directly. Might not be elegant, but was effective at least. AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 14:15, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for ping, Bruce1ee. I don't see why we shouldn't make having Wikimail enabled a prerequisite for making requests here, to be honest. God helps those who help themselves, as they say, and it can't be asking too much to request that those making requests do their bit to lighten Volunteers' workload. Burner email accounts are easy enough, and it's not as if they even have to reveal them. SerialNumber54129A New Face in Hell 12:43, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Melvin Edwards printmaking catalogue

  • Price, Clement Alexander (2000). "Mel Edwards' Way". In Anreus, Alejandro (ed.). Melvin Edwards: The Prints of a Sculptor. Jersey City, New Jersey: Jersey City Museum. pp. 5+. OCLC 50195675.
  • Additional chapters: "Foreword" (p. 4, Nina S. Jacobs); and "A Sculptor on Prints" (pp. 8+, Melvin Edwards interviewed by Alejandro Anreus)

For Melvin Edwards, searching for more detailed analysis and chronology of Edwards' printmaking career, this catalogue isn't in a library close to me but seems to be the most detailed source on this topic. I believe there is an interview (titled "A Sculptor on Prints"), and there may be an essay by the editor as well (which is more useful than an interview but I can use either as the interview is quoted in a separate source) (edit: found the details on the essays). There is also an ebook version (OCLC 1446435644) of the source available via HathiTrust, but I don't have access/am not sure how I'd find it even if my public library had access. Thanks for any help!

Picture Post Historical Archive, 1938-1957

[edit]

Hello, I am entering the second phase of my search for the provenance of the Delivery After Raid photograph. Media sources indicate that it first appeared in the Daily Mirror sometime on or around 10 October 1940, but the kind people over at the reference desk spent a great deal of time looking and found nothing. My current hypothesis is that the provenance got lost as the Hulton Press Library changed hands many times over the decades, and that the idea that the photo was published by the Daily Mirror might have originated when the Daily Express was incorporated into the archives, which later became known as Trinity Mirror and then Reach plc, which owns the Mirror. I know, it's very confusing. The only place that I haven't yet checked is the Gale Picture Post Historical Archive, 1938-1957, which many educational institutions have available for their students and faculty to use, although it does seem to be fairly exclusive. Basically, I'm looking for any indication that the famous London Milkman photo appeared in Picture Post sometime after 9 October 1940, possibly the 10th or later. For some reason, Getty does not name the original publication.[7] Thank you for your help. Viriditas (talk) 19:54, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Viriditas: The 12, 19 and 26 October 1940 issues do not seem to have it, unfortunately. Some pretty interesting pictures though. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:55, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for checking! Viriditas (talk) 22:48, 18 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe check out Illustrated? It shares lots of personnel with the Picture Post, and was active during 1940 afaict. The only problem is that the generic name makes searching for an archive for it extremely hard. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 20:46, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Daily Express (March 6, 1928)

[edit]

A series of articles about Yugoslavia were published before March 16, 1928. The author of them was some guy named Geddy or something. I only have a Serbian transcription of his name. The guy writes that no minister was willing to receive him in audience and share a few words with him. He describes the ineffectiveness of Serbian bureaucracy. Some policemen took his passport and made him wait awhile in the waiting room. Summary: Strength: 100.
Assessment: Mali is a landlocked state and has no formal navy or coast guard. However, the River Niger runs throughout the country and is navigable for much of its length most of the year. The river patrol forces of the army employ about 100 soldiers; they man three small river craft and are deployed for anti-smuggling patrols and counter-insurgency work along the River Niger.

Hello, does anyone have access to this ICSD-3-TR (published 2023). I can access only 3rd edition, from 2014.

Interested in the sections on snoring (maybe under "sleep related breathing disorders" and "ISOLATED SYMPTOMS AND NORMAL VARIANTS") and obstructive sleep apnea (section may be listed as: "Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Adult.", also in section "sleep related breathing disorders")

Thanks, Moribundum (talk) 09:06, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if anyone has access to that paper from sleep medicine clinics, please send (already checked on sci hub and wikipedia library). Thank you if you can help Moribundum (talk) 19:57, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

University of Michigan thesis

[edit]

For Draft:Dale A. Zimmerman, a draft I am writing. I believe this is his doctoral thesis, and I am hoping I can use it to find more information about his work. A PDF of the thesis can be downloaded for University of Michigan users from the DOI or Handle. Thanks, BhamBoi (talk) 05:59, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If it is not possible to share the entire thesis, I was hoping the front matter or indices can provide some biographical information on Zimmerman and/or a name for who his advisor was. BhamBoi (talk) 06:01, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
ProQuest has this dissertation here, but TWL does not have full access to it. —Bruce1eetalk 07:14, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@BhamBoi: Neither does my university. I can access (but apparently not download) an excerpt that says the advisor was Elzada U. Clover. —Kusma (talk) 16:05, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have full access, but the preview seems to contain the front matter anyways. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:28, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks all, I can see the front matter through the ProQuest preview. I didn't previously have a link to the thesis on ProQuest, so thanks for sending that in! BhamBoi (talk) 23:33, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Interestingly, no matter how I search for it or which account I use to search, this thesis does not come up on ProQuest. Thank you, then, @Bruce1ee for the direct link! BhamBoi (talk) 23:35, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@BhamBoi: I got the ProQuest link by searching for "THE JACK PINE ASSOCIATION IN THE LOWER PENINSULA OF MICHIGAN: ITS STRUCTURE AND COMPOSITION" in Google Scholar here. —Bruce1eetalk 06:21, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for page numbers for cites from Thad Komorowski book used in Man's Best Friend (The Ren & Stimpy Show)

[edit]
  • Komorowski, Thad (2017). Sick Little Monkeys: The Unauthorized Ren & Stimpy Story. BearManor Media.

For Man's Best Friend (The Ren & Stimpy Show)...
Ref #2 is missing page numbers for the following paragraph, there is also some clarification needed who/what sold what to whom?:

Originally, a scene where George Liquor leg-wrestles with Ren and Stimpy was going to be in this episode, but never got past the storyboards.[2][page needed] After the contract with Spümcø was terminated, Games Animation eventually produced it[clarification needed (the scene or episode?)] using archive audio and Rough Draft Korea's animation services. Ultimately, legal troubles with John Kricfalusi's ownership of George Liquor (they had sold him[clarification needed (who sold who?)] the rights to George at his firing) prevented them from ever airing the footage.[2][page needed]

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 00:20, 25 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Shearonink, I have a copy in e-book form.
  • ...past the storyboards, page 233.
  • ...Games Animation eventually produced the scene using archive audio...
  • Sentence beginning Ultimately, legal troubles... (pages 231-233 in source) would summarize the situation better along these lines: As the show transitioned to the Nickelodeon network, production slowed dramatically. Nickelodeon fired John Kricfalusi, claiming he was the reason the episodes were airing much later than expected. The terms of the legal settlement between Nickelodeon and Kricfalusi meant that Nickelodeon was unable to ever air the footage, as Kricfalusi had received the rights to George Liquor as part of the settlement.
I would be happy to send you screengrabs of the relevant pages for the Kricfalusi v Nickelodeon section if you'd like them, and obviously please feel free to use any (or none) of my summary. StartGrammarTime (talk) 08:45, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for answering the call, greatly appreciated. I don't think a screen grab is necessary, so I went ahead and changed the text. Hope that's ok - Shearonink (talk) 05:14, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

When I click on that page, I get the message "Sorry, but the article you have selected is no longer available for viewing as it has been removed from our back issue access." I don't think anyone will be able to access this via PressReader. Do you know of any other databases with this image? Toadspike [Talk] 23:09, 28 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I did not know it's inaccessible even with subscription access, sadly. PressReader and Google News are the only ones I can search through my search engines sadly.
Only library I've seen that has the article is the UP Diliman Main Library, but I'm not allowed to access physical collections as an outsider. Rizal Library only has a black-and-white microfilm of the newspaper. RFNirmala (talk) 23:57, 28 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ping just in case @Toadspike RFNirmala (talk) 00:05, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I believe PressReader is designed to provide recent copies of newspapers and magazines for browsing, rather than serve as an indefinite archive of content. It is sad but not surprising that they do not have access to that article even on my institutional subscription. Toadspike [Talk] 00:13, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@RFNirmala: What are you planning to do with the image? I'd assume it's still copyrighted. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:49, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Was planning to use it for an infobox, possibly with a non-free rationale since I can't find free images online. I checked and the image is actually copyrighted. RFNirmala (talk) 00:54, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Articles from Providence Journal October 1917

[edit]

Hi. I'm looking for any newspaper articles from Providence Journal between October 10th and 15th 1917. The articles would describe a march or protest by African Americans (the newspaper uses the term "negros" or "negroes" ) that took place in that city.

I used the Providence Journal's archive search feature, and found three articles: one each on October 10, 14, and 15. But (without buying a subscription $$) that search feature was not able to provide the article titles or page #, or content.
