Hi there. :) I know that issue #3 covered Skyrealms of Jorune on pages 3-7; sometimes the reviews of certain games also had mini-reviews for game supplements. Did you see any for the review of this game? If you're not sure, could you please share with me a copy of that review? If it definitely didn't cover any supplements, then I'm OK with not seeing for myself. BOZ (talk) 04:59, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
I know that the reviews from issue #8 have been added to the corresponding games already: [1] but I'm seeing it could be helpful to go through them manually on my own to make sure we didn't miss anything. :) If you are able to share, we had The PBM corner on page 54, and then a reviews section from pages 56-61 covering the likes of Hawkmoon (role-playing game), Hidden Kingdom (role-playing game), Night of the Ninja (role-playing game), and Whimsy Cards. :) BOZ (talk) 14:35, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
OK, so issue #9 [2] is something I can work on tomorrow, if you can share that one. It apparently has a long section of reviews from at least page 33-38 on games including Cyborg Commando, Top Secret, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and Phoenix Command, and then there is a capsule review section on page 54-55 for games like Ogre, Talisman, and more. After that, I really will take a little break from these. :) BOZ (talk) 06:12, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
OK, I am back if you are still up for helping out. :) Issue #10 [3] had reviews for a game called Expendables on page 27 and Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game on page 37, as well as eleven play-by-mail games starting on page 53 if you are able to share that one. :) BOZ (talk) 16:48, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
Issue #11 [4] ran its reviews from pages 64-66 for the games Ars Magica, Talislanta, and Enforcers, and I think that I mostly have those reviews already on the articles, but it never hurt to check and make sure. :) BOZ (talk) 07:13, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
Issue #12 [5] had a capsule review section beginning on page 3 that reviewed things such as Adventurer's Guild books and Ironhedge and Pandora's Dice Wheel, while the PBM reviews were on pages 22-23 for Duelmasters and Warp Force Empires. BOZ (talk) 05:16, 20 August 2024 (UTC) Issue #13 [6] had a computer game review section beginning on page 8 (although this initial column may not have actually reviewed any games, so if not you can skip it), reviews of the GURPS Basic Set and Traveller: 2300 on page 21, Greyhawk Adventures on page 22, board games Supremacy and Rollout on page 24, reviews of the PBM games Kings & Things and Kings War on page 52, and capsule reviews on page 59 including The Make My Day Card Game, Howling Wilderness for Twilight: 2000, Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer’s Manual, and The Broken Covenant of Calebais for Ars Magica - that's a lot. :) BOZ (talk) 00:15, 21 August 2024 (UTC) Issue #14 [7] had computer game reviews for Star Command and Character Creator on page 36, and game reviews for Pizza Wars Imperium, The Cyclopedia Talislanta, The End of a Legend for Enforcers, and Cyberpunk 2020 on pages 57-58. BOZ (talk) 13:02, 23 August 2024 (UTC) OK, back at it. :) Issue #16 [9] had reviews for apparently 6 play-by-mail games beginning on page 8, and various computer games beginning on page 49. BOZ (talk) 04:14, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
Issue #17 [10] had reviews for the Player's Handbook beginning on page 16, Shadowrun beginning on page 32, Shadow World beginning on page 46, and reviews for computer games Demon Stalkers, The Magic Candle, and Zork Zero beginning on page 61. BOZ (talk) 07:58, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
Issue #18 [11] had reviews for Ghostbusters International starting on page 32, the RPGs It Came From the Late, Late, Late Show and MEGA Role-Playing System starting on page 34, computer games Hillsfar and Curse of the Azure Bonds starting on page 49, and the Domination PBM starting on page 58. BOZ (talk) 06:01, 10 September 2024 (UTC) OK, back at it. :) Issue #21 [14] had reviews for apparently 6 play-by-mail games beginning on page 20, reviews of various RPGs such as Omnigon, Stormbringer, and Worlds Beyond beginning on page 32, reviews of several computer games such as MechWarrior beginning on page 47, a big review of Torg beginning on page 65, and then reviews for the RPG Cyberspace and its supplement Edge-On, and the Cyberpunk 2020 supplements Hardwired and Rockerboy beginning on page 68.

Just a heads up, I've looked ahead and this may be the last issue that had an overly large capsule reviews section. :) Good and bad news; fewer reviews means less work, but also less coverage. Administrators' newsletter – January 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2024).
- Following an RFC, Wikipedia:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
- Following the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: CaptainEek, Daniel, Elli, KrakatoaKatie, Liz, Primefac, ScottishFinnishRadish, Theleekycauldron, Worm That Turned.

On and On by the Fat Boys
[edit]Hey, happy new year, hope you've been well. Soon to publish a draft (from Word) of an article on the Fat Boys album On and On. Didn't find nearly as much as I expected, but lost access to one of my favorite databases, and got everything I could from physical books and periodicals, PQ, and Newspapers.com. It charted, so it would pass the GN for most editors. Don't know if you have anything from The Source, etc. Anyway, hope to publish by end of Sunday, if you want to look at it after then. Cheers. Caro7200 (talk) 00:45, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hey! Happy new year! I'm doing great, just finished saving Illmatic from losing its GA status, now aiming to do the same for the Pharcyde's debut. I hope you are doing great too. Unfortunately, The Source started reviewing albums in 1990, so unless the album was re-released later, they probably didn't review it. I have access to Rolling Stone and NME issues from 1989, but they didn't review hip-hop albums at the time. Years later, XXL was publishing retrospective classic reviews, but this particular album probably wasn't "classic" enough for them and I don't have the magazines to check (and most of the issues are not available online either). So far I only see passing mentions in The Encyclopedia of Popular Music and couple online articles (like this one). Still, that's amazing that you are bringing back mostly forgotten albums. Can't wait to see the article! Maybe I'll manage to find something to add. Once I'm done with GA housekeeping I'll finish an album article too; it's a bit more popular and has a dozen of full-length reviews, so it's surprising we didn't even have a stub for it. AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 01:59, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- It appears I was wrong, they did review some albums in 1989, just didn't rate them. Unfortunately, these early issues of The Source are not available online. According to the third photo in this eBay listing, the planned release date for the album was October 3rd, so it'd be around that date if it was reviewed. I can't find reviews from that (September/October 1989) issue, but this post has reviews (well, most of them) from the November/December 1989 issue, the album is not there. The January/February 1990 issue was a special issue and didn't have reviews, as far as I understand. I have the first 2 pages of March 1990 reviews and it's not there either. - After thinking about it for a bit, I realized that it could have been reviewed in Hip-Hop Connection. I checked issues from 1989–1990 and found an interview with the Fat Boys in Hip-Hop Connection #10, November 1989, pages 12–14. They even put the group on the cover. Surprisingly, I couldn't find a review of the album. I sent you scans of the interview. AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 03:24, 9 January 2025 (UTC)
- Curious if you have a list, etc., of notable 1980s to early 2000s hip hop albums that still need articles... Thanks. Caro7200 (talk) 17:18, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- Not that I can think of. When I go through reviews in old The Source or XXL issues, I sometimes see albums we don't have articles for. I could put them in a list somewhere in userspace, but whether or not they are notable, that's hard to say at a glance. Sometimes it's obvious, like the example above, sometimes it's in the "ehhh maybe" territory. They could have been reviewed in other magazines, like Rap Pages, but I don't have access to all the issues of those to check. Although 1997–2000 issues of Rap Pages are indexed by Google Books and can be searched through with some effort.Another way is to first generate a list of all albums from AllMusic using some Web Archive magic, but you can't sort by hip hop albums nor by albums with a written review. And because of that, the resulting file will be enormous, it was already 200 MB for all archived rollingstone.com links and around 1 GB for thesource.com. Manually going through these will take forever. AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 18:26, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- I created this page User:AstonishingTunesAdmirer/MissingAlbums to make note of albums we don't have articles for (there are quite a few, as it turns out!). So far I only went through a couple XXL issues I have access to and a few hard-to-find-online issues of The Source (will eventually go through the rest of 1990s issues). For every album I tried adding other reviews; however, the lists of these are not exhaustive, as I only did short searches. AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 19:23, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- May try Journalist album unless you have started, thanks... Caro7200 (talk) 15:13, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- Nope, I haven't. I'm a little bit busy in real life and when I get free time I'm trying to finish what I've already started (rewriting Bizarre Ride, writing about Madd Rapper's debut, finishing writing history of The Source magazine). I sent you the XXL review of that album. Unfortunately, I don't know the page number. It is probably p. 139, but I am not 100% sure. I also know that it was reviewed in the August 2002 issue of The Source, but I don't have that one and searching for these magazines turned out to be a non-trivial task. Hello there
[edit]Hello there I was wondering about boom bap and what it is exactly? Seeing the album Illmatic has a genre listed as that. And instead of that to change it to jazz rap 2600:4040:7A08:F200:946F:6C65:E530:A7E3 (talk) 17:30, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hey! Thank you for your interest in improving Wikipedia! Boom bap is the style of hip hop popular in New York in the 90s, characterized by specific drum sounds: "boom" kick and "bap" snare. You can hear both in the beginning of "N.Y. State of Mind", the first sound is the "boom", followed by the "bap". And it's not just in the music from the 90s, it's also used when artists want it to sounds like the music from that era, like Joey Badass on "Hardknock". As for whatever genres are listed. Everything on Wikipedia is supposed to be cited to reliable sources, such as articles by journalists talking about something or books on the topic. We don't talk about anything ourselves, we paraphrase what others have already said about the topic. As described over at Wikipedia:Genre warrior, that includes music genres too. I've returned jazz rap, as I've found a source calling tracks from Illmatic that. But in general, if you want your changes to genres to stay, you want to provide a source yourself (see WP:Citing sources). Other editors are unlikely to spend their time searching for a source and will continuously revert unsourced additions. Hope that helps! AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 18:15, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
Thank you

[edit] Hello, I've left a comment at your Did you know nomination for Skull emoji TNM101 (chat) 17:10, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hey! Thank you, I've added the citation to the article. AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 17:12, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
Hi AstonishingTunesAdmirer, and thank you so much for your work over at Skull emoji! I was unaware how the meaning had changed so it was actually pretty informative.
I noticed that there's also Pineapple emoji, but given the state it's in right now, I can see this being a future target of the fun police. I just thought I'd leave it with you in case you wanted to work your magic on that one too :-)
Regards, Kylemahar902 (talk) 11:18, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hey! Articles like these are fun and it was good to take a break from my usual 90s music articles. However, as with everything on Wikipedia, we are limited by sources. I did a quick search and I don't really see any other sources other than the ones already in the article. I will be on a lookout for new sources, but no promises! DYK for Skull emoji
[edit]On 17 March 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Skull emoji, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that an image of a skull can be used to express happiness? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Skull emoji. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Skull emoji), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
