Main Page error reports
![]() | National variations of the English language have been extensively discussed previously:
|
To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 12:41 on 19 May 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Actual errors only. Failures of subjective criteria such as interestingness are not errors.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

- Per MOS:OVERLINK please delink New York City (and Boston if you read the guideline like I do). Abductive (reasoning) 00:26, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Abductive, the convention is that if something is wrong, fix it in the target article first. That hasn't been done as yet. If it sticks there, then we can consider it here. I, for one, don't want to have to investigate whether those places are linked in the article on purpose. Schwede66 01:01, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Up until this report you have removed the overlinking to New York City on the Main Page at my request, so it is clearly not the convention. Moreover, New York City is specifically mentioned as the prime example of overlinking at MOS:OL. There is no need to investigate, no need to wait until some user reverts the correct removal of links and loses a three-day long RFC. By that time it will no longer be on the Main Page. Abductive (reasoning) 06:10, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Well, I don't like messing with FAs or the TFAs as the team of coordinators puts in a lot of work trying to get it right. Hence, my request to fix the article first, and if that sticks, that's enough evidence for me that the change is uncontroversial. Schwede66 08:34, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- P. S. at present there is no sentence in the target article that even says "involved in criminal activity in Boston and New York". Abductive (reasoning) 06:14, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

- Yeah, I agree with Schwede that we shouldn't fiddle with the TFA for things that aren't really errors, and I'm not sure NYC and Boston are automatic WP:OVERLINK candidates anyway, it depends on the context. As an aside, the article overall doesn't look like FA quality - it has lots of short paragraphs for example rather than flowing prose, but it was promoted in 2009 so I suppose it's just from a different time... — Amakuru (talk) 08:42, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- I can imagine a few ways how linking New York here is not an error, so I don't see this as urgent, and will just ping @TFA coordinators for comment.—Bagumba (talk) 08:55, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

- As we're not supposed to have redirects on the MP, could white America be piped to White Americans please. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 06:16, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Please change "he became one of the Nation's leaders, its chief spokesmen" to "he became one of the Nation's leaders, its chief spokesman". Thanks, Kiwipete (talk) 08:53, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
Done. On this note, however, I'm actually unsure where in the article this fact is covered. The lead calls him "a spokesman" for the Nation (not the chief spokesman), while I'm not sure where in the body this aspect is covered at all. @TFA coordinators any ideas? — Amakuru (talk) 09:08, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Amakuru. I agree, now having actually read the article. I did find this in Nation of Islam - "the NOI's influence expanded through high-profile members such as the black nationalist activist Malcolm X", but maybe the word "chief" should be removed? Kiwipete (talk) 09:15, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- There's multiple MOS:SEAOFBLUE instances: "African American Muslim" could instead link to African-American Muslims, "human rights activist" to human rights defender (which bolds "human rights activist" in its lead), and "black nationalist Organization of Afro-American Unity" can perhaps unlink black nationalist. @TFA coordinators : courtesy ping.—Bagumba (talk) 09:17, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- I made the second change, will leave the other two for someone else to consider. I personally think the value of linking black nationalist and Organization of Afro-American Unity supersedes seaofblue concerns. Eddie891 Talk Work 09:21, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Given the space limitations we have, seaofblue should not be considered on its own an error. We try to fit as much as we can into 1025 characters and addressing seaofblue often means excess verbiage. Wehwalt (talk) 12:40, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

": can we change to "that MI5 secretary Hester Leggatt may have written convincing fake love letters for the WWII deception mission Operation Mincemeat?
" as there is disagreement within the sources on who actually wrote them. (I've tagged the article and raised the question on the article talk page too. - SchroCat (talk) 06:49, 19 May 2025 (UTC)- I have done as suggested, since this is a live issue and we don't want incorrect info on the main page. However, the article doesn't yet express doubt and now has the disputed tag on the hook fact, which is contrary to the DYK rules and verifiability. It should be clarified what the situation is in the article ASAP, otherwise the hook should probably be pulled. Pinging @Engrigg22, DaniloDaysOfOurLives, History6042, and RoySmith: Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 07:02, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks Amakuru. I've had to add another tag for an unreliable source too. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 07:46, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

Errors in "On this day"
Surprised no mention of Queen Anne Boleyn who was beheaded on this day in 1536. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:44, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- There's a note that she appears on January 25 for her ill-fated marriage. Stephen 11:00, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- I see. Not sure which event may have affected her more. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:02, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

Accessibility problems
The banner is again unreadable; black on dark grey juts doesn't work. I got a screen shot this time. My most recent post was archived before anyone had a chance to respond, so maybe there's no interest in putting the effort in to making sure the page is readable to as many users as possible. -- mikeblas (talk) 22:19, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- It was explained to you last time that this is nothing that this main page has any control over. These are banners that are requested at meta:CentralNotice/Request, so best raised on the talk page there. Stephen 09:08, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, but just to add: thanks for going to the trouble to record a screen shot and for bringing the issue up here. Please do pursue this further in the way that Stephen suggested. JMCHutchinson (talk) 11:14, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- For the record [1], it's one of the WP:Dark mode#Gadgets that causes the bad accessibility. The banner works fine in the built-in dark mode of Vector 2022 and Minerva. You need to fix your gadget, there's nothing CentralNotice admins can do. Johannnes89 (talk) 12:36, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
