From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

April Fools' Day 2025 marked the twenty-second year that the holiday was celebrated on Wikipedia. The 2025 festivities were noticeably tamer than those of past years. Editors made 228 joke AFD nominations, a decrease from 2024's count of nearly 250 nominations. Highlights of this year's festivities include editors staking out their own "rooms" in the Apartment Complex prank, three themed joke AFD campaigns (including a continuation of Operation Radiance from last year), and various nonsensical edits being made at Wikipedia:Sandbox.

From April 2 through 4, Wikipedians who participated in the festivities held an informal vote to determine the best pranks and prankster of 2025. The winner of the vote is as follows:

Two additional polls were held this year: a census on the Wikipedians who participated in April Fools' Day 2025 and a vote regarding the best crayon color to eat. The full results of all three polls are available here.

  • There is a proposal to change |url-status=dead to |url-status=dodoesque to bestow more dignity on Wikipedia's dearly departed URLs

Local sandbox(see second heading from bottom)

[edit]
  • The Sandbox on this page was subject to a malformed banner
    • "Il pwn you in a sword fight"
      • At some point the banner was fixed
        • An image with the subtitles "Sand" was inserted
          • It then linked to a song named "salt cover"
            • It then became a [[rickroll]
              • It then became an infobox about the Penguins of Madagascar
                • A wall was added to the GLASSbox to prevent destruction
                  • It was a article of a person for a short time, but the sandbox was filled with sand yet again.
                    • There was a nuke.

Other

[edit]
  • Someone turned the headers for Deletion nominations, Main Page and Sandbox into spoonerisms.
    • The headers for Main Page and Sandbox were reverted.
    • The deletion nomination header was later itself deleted, before later being replaced with "The AFD Corner".
      • Then it was replaced with "The Corner for Deletion".
        • Then it was changed back.
  • Someone messed up the colors of this article
    • It has been reverted

XFD polls

[edit]

The results are in! There was a slight issue with ballot stuffing, but it was easily detected and fixed. Anyway, here are the winners.

To my surprise, we have a tie for the second year in a row. ALL CAPS and Graphical user interface both got 3 votes. The Appartment Complex got a lot of votes, and AlphaBeta135 was an overwhelming favourite.

Congratulations to the winners.

  • Word of advice: When everyone starts thousands of little gags and tries to force everyone's attention to them, it becomes a handful. It's a bit too self-centered for the spirit of what Wikipedia April Fools' Day is. The fun happens when you expand on others' ideas instead of always trying to force your own. Nothing is more fun than comedic collaboration, because there are no wrong answers.

  2. ^ In order to move an article to the deletion bin without using energy; you must exert no work (W = Fs) on the article. If there is no work and you are moving the article (i.e., displacement > 0), then the force should be 0N. Unfortunately, the force must also be greater than 0 per F = ma; both the mass and the acceleration (the article begins to move from rest) of the article are greater than 0. Not only that, due to conservation of energy, the moment you give the article kinetic energy, you lose stored energy in the process.
