Question from Sniphelp (13:12, 31 December 2024)

[edit]

Hey Goldsztajn,

Hope you’re doing well, mate! I’m looking to add a section about a controversy related to the 2021 Copa América, but I want to make sure I’m ticking all the right boxes when it comes to Wikipedia’s guidelines. Could you give me a hand with structuring it so it stays neutral and well-sourced?

I’ve got reliable references lined up, including the official CONMEBOL website and a few reputable outlets. For example, here’s one of the links I plan to use: before final https://www.conmebol.com/noticias/get-messi-y-neymar-los-mejores-jugadores-del-torneo-continental/

Would this kind of source be good enough, and are there any dos and don’ts for adding a section on controversies? Cheers for pointing me in the right direction! --Sniphelp (talk) 13:12, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Sniphelp - happy new year. Give me little longer to reply to you, I will look through your references. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 02:56, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Sniphelp - I've had a look through the sources. A couple of points. First, I would advise against using the India Times, or The Hindustan Times pieces, in general these are not strong sources and given they are from far outside the region, better sourcing can be found. Second, El Pais is a newspaper of record, so is a strong reliable source. Third, conmebol.com is WP:PRIMARY, so can be used for basic facts, copaamerica.com is owned by CONMEBOL so is also WP:PRIMARY. The other sites look to be news recycling sites, so would not be very strong. Fourth, you mention "controversy" and I see from the editing history of 2021 Copa América you added material which was subsequently reverted; as far as I can see none of the sources above speak of or mention any controversy. If your intention is to add material about a controversy, these sources do not appear to support your claim. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 08:48, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

2025 Update from Women in Green

[edit]

Hello Goldsztajn:

2024 has wrapped up, and what a full year it was for WikiProject Women in Green! Over the past year, we hosted two edit-a-thons, one themed around women's history and another on women around the world. We also managed to achieve most of our 2024 annual goals, nominating 75 articles for GA, reviewing 64 GA nominations, nominating 8 articles for FAC, peer reviewing 3 articles and reviewing 10 FAC nominations. Excellent work, and thank you to everyone involved!

For 2025 we have a new set of goals for nominations and reviews. In particular, we would like to see more articles on our Hot 100 list being improved and nominated for GA this year. If you take a look at the list and see an article you are interested in contributing to, feel free to add it and yourself to our Hot 100 project discussion. You might even find someone interested in collaborating with you!

This year, as with every year, we hope you will join us in helping improve our coverage of women and women's works on this encyclopedia. Every contribution helps. We'll see you around!

Hi, I want to create a page about myself. Is that possible? --Luizcribeiro001 (talk) 02:02, 20 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Timeswikiedits (14:17, 22 January 2025)

[edit]

Hello there! I have joined Wikipedia today as I am looking to request edits to two articles:

The Times The Sunday Times

Some of the information on both pages is outdated and I would like to bring it forward.

As this is my first time requesting edits I want to ensure I am doing it properly. To start, I have disclosed that I have a COI on my account. Is there anything further I need to do?

Second, I have a lot of requests to make in bulk and am conscious that I might be occupying lots of space in the Talk section of both pages with them. Is this the preferred method for bulk edits? Or is there a more appropriate space to make these requests?

Finally, I wish to swap out links in the citations section for both articles. The Times and Sunday Times recently migrated to a new .com domain, meaning all citations are currently redirecting from former .co.uk equivalents.

Thanks so much for your time, it's greatly appreciated.

Have a great day! --Timeswikiedits (talk) 14:17, 22 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Lukethetimes. In terms of the changes, without actually seeing the detail it is hard to comment, so I think the simplest thing would be to post all of them to the talk page and see the reactions. It might be helpful to classify the changes between those which are uncontroversial and relate to material already in the article (eg updating the name of the editor) as against those that introduce new material or are potentially controversial (again it's hard to say what might be controversial without seeing the material itself). It terms of changing links - do you mean those which appear in the infobox? Yes, if those are the links you are speaking of, I don't consider that to be an issue to change those yourself. Let me know if I can help any further. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 23:08, 22 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there @Goldsztajn, hope you're doing well.
I've submitted the first of two requests today, here:

I would be highly grateful of any feedback or suggestions before I submit the second of my requests.

Question from Lightshieldanon on User:Lightshieldanon (16:33, 23 January 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I want to. submit your article how to do this ? --Lightshieldanon (talk) 16:33, 23 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Lightshieldanon - are you asking about creating an article? For new users it is usually recommended that you learn about how Wikipedia works (there are lots of links on your talk page), however, if you are keen to create an article, this link tells how to use the drafting process which would be most appropriate to begin. Be conscious that subjects for Wikipedia articles must be notable and have supporting reliable sources. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 22:02, 23 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Funny guy 800 (12:27, 29 January 2025)

[edit]

Hey, sorry i've been away for a bit but I would like to learn something new like how to create an article. --Funny guy 800 (talk) 12:27, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Funny guy 800 - in terms of creating an article the best way to start is drafting. You can look at a list like this for article ideas: requested articles. However, be conscious, just because there is a request does not mean the subject will be notable and you'll need to include reliable sources to support the article. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 03:23, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bludgeoning accusation

[edit]

Why did you make a bludgeoning accusation on my talk page when you did not warn the person who agrees with you but has made nearly four times as many edits as me? And to whom most of my edits are an answer? And why didn't you make the same accusation against the editor with twice as many edits as me or any of the other editors with a few more edits than me? Do be a lot more careful in future. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 09:50, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Sirfurboy, it wasn't about the quantity, it was the content. As I said, it was an unsolicitied, good faith opinion. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 22:01, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think you need to read that discussion again. There is bludgeoning going on there, for sure, but not by me. Note that my source analysis was exactly what AfD is for, and that my own !vote was completely hijacked by someone who added 21 comments to it (and I only left 4). I have not questioned your good faith, but you would demonstrate it more clearly had you called out the very clear and egregious bludgeoning by the person you happened to agree with, but ended up leaving 47 comments on that AFD. Also noting elsewhere that you pinged in editors you thought were in agreement and omitted one who clearly isn't. Again, please be more careful about that. How did you find that page? I notice you first edited it right after posting on my talk page, where there had been a comment about it. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 12:02, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to ping the other editor, I simply missed them. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 12:07, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hej hej @Soman - thanks for the heads up. I'm sorry I missed that AfD - have not been as regular checking the deletion lists last couple of weeks. Not sure I can add much regarding sourcing, but article could do with some copy-editing. Will give a once over. Kind regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 23:26, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Review and Assistance on Draft:Charles Odii (DG SMEDAN)

[edit]

Dear Goldsztajn, I hope you’re doing well. I have recently submitted Draft:Charles Odii (DG SMEDAN) for review and would appreciate your assistance in reviewing and improving it. Charles Odii currently serves as the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Small Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in October 2023. If you have time, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or edits to ensure the article meets Wikipedia’s standards. If you think removing the bracketed “DG SMEDAN” from the title would be more appropriate, please feel free to do so. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Charles_Odii_(DG_SMEDAN) Thank you for your time and expertise. Looking forward to your feedback. Imaaaaam (talk) 10:18, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from PB987 (05:41, 5 February 2025)

[edit]

Hello... Can i create pages directly without creating drafts. ? --PB987 (talk) 05:41, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Goldsztajn There has been a long time since I posted the Question on your Talk page. But you have not responded to me. Please reply to my Question and i have one more question to ask you. PB987 (talk) 11:12, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @PB987 - it is possible to create an article without creating a draft, but generally it is discouraged when editors first start at Wikipedia. If you are concerned about this article: Draft:2025 Kalat attack, it will be reviewed, unfortunately, the article appears to suffer from close paraphrasing. Feel free to ask me another question. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 12:53, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please tell me that my contributions or edits are amazing or not to Wikipedia. Can you please Rate them from the score 10. PB987 (talk) 13:02, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @PB987 - you need to conform with Wikipedia policy and guidelines when creating articles. Close paraprasing is a form of plagiarism and not acceptable; I'm sorry, but I cannot rate your work if it does not conform to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Question from Callies43 (20:52, 7 February 2025)

[edit]

I've added information to the Discography of Sneaky Pete Kleinow and I wanted the info to go right to the source......the info I added is not blue --Callies43 (talk) 20:52, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Callies43 - welcome and thanks for your edit. In order to have it "blue" it needs to be linked to the article you want it to connect to. If you are editing the source code, this is done using [[ and ]], so the text you would add would be: ''[[Fulfillingness' First Finale]]'' to get this Fulfillingness' First Finale (it needs to be in italics as it is a title of a record). Ideally a source should be added to the link that verifies the contribution to the album. If you use teh visual editor, you just highlight the text, and clink the link button. Feel free to ask me any more questions. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 00:54, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

i edit yesterday park shin hye ,s hight but that not show in wikipidea --Kim Myeong Joo (talk) 04:25, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Kim Myeong Joo - apologies for the delayed reply, I missed your message earlier. The reason your edit is not showing is that it was reverted (removed). This is because you added information that was not supported by a reliable source - any information added must be supported by independent, secondary sources. Also as this is information about a living person, Wikipedia's policy on biographies applies (WP:BLP), which requires all information to be accurate and verifiable. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 21:49, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Soiderino (11:47, 16 February 2025)

[edit]

Hello, i wanted to edit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatoly_Sedykh_(serial_killer) page misleading information, but it got reverted.

The text which i edited was: "He was married and had one child – Timur Sedykh, who moved to United States." because in Russian version it's says that he had two childs and was working as a driver. --Soiderino (talk) 11:47, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Soiderino - the information does not appear to be supported by reliable sources. Also, as the information you tried to add is about a living person, the Wikipedia policy "BLP" applies. It's also not clear how that information is relevant to the article itself (see WP:UNDUE). Hope that helps, feel free to ask me any other questions. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 21:44, 16 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This is a reply to your comment:

"HYPOTHETICAL someone writes: "I like the thought of to r*pe, in fact I was convicted of sexual assault once, and I still think about it quite a lot, but well, the person got hurt. So I think I would be able to make useful contributions in the area and now policy says I can." Feel free to replace the word r*pe with any form of criminal assault. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 05:00, 18 February 2025 (UTC)"

That is not what I am proposing. Obviously users should not be allowed to freely admit to committing or planning to commit acts of abuse. I am proposing that users be allowed to be open about mental disorders they were born with. Gapazoid (talk) 21:09, 18 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Egyptiankeng (13:02, 26 February 2025)

[edit]

Advertising pages are prohibited on Wikipedia, right? But if I want to create a page about an application such as Instagram, is this classified as an advertising page? Are there certain standards that must be met in order for it to be permissible to create a page for it, such as the presence of newspaper articles talking about it?. --Egyptiankeng (talk) 13:02, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Egyptiankeng - yes, there are many pages on Wikipedia about companies. The criteria for whether a company should have an article is outlined here: WP:NCORP. It is very important that reliable sources are used to support the information in the article. With companies it is especially important that the sources be independent and provide analysis, not simply repeating information that is released by the company. There is a phenomenon called churnalism - this type of reporting is not appropriate. So just because there is a report about a company, does not necessarily mean that report can be used as a source. Please feel free to ask me any more questions you might have. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 19:57, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
