Sembawang West Single Member Constituency (SMC) is a Single Member Constituency (SMC) for the Parliament of Singapore. Located in the North Region, Singapore, it was established in 2025 after being split from Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (GRC).

History

[edit]

Sembawang West SMC was established for the 2025 general election by carving out Sembawang West ward of the Sembawang GRC, in order to reduce the number of voters in the GRC. At the time of establishment, there are 24,153 registered voters within the SMC.[1][2]

After the SMC was formed, Singapore Democratic Party's secretary-general Chee Soon Juan said he will be contesting the SMC as Bukit Batok SMC, where he previously contested, will be absorbed into the newly established Jurong East–Bukit Batok GRC.[3][4] National Solidarity Party initially intended to contest the SMC but eventually announced on 20 April that it will not contest the constituency to avoid a three corner fight in the SMC.[5]

On 22 April, Poh Li San, incumbent MP for the ward via Sembawang GRC, announced her candidacy for the SMC.[5]
