"Lewis Smith"
[edit]In the 'necrology' section of Who's Who in America (1901-1902 edition; p. 1300) there's a mention of "Smith, Lewis, gov. LA 27-99" - that is, "governor of Louisiana, lived from 1827 to 1899". The publishers of Who's Who were somewhat sloppier at the beginning of the 20th century than they are now; since there was no governor of Louisiana named "Lewis Smith", does anyone have any idea who they might have been referring to? Thanks. DS (talk) 20:57, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
