Another sports season list, but this time for a reserve team that has been mediocre for most of their existence. The Tacoma Defiance (who no longer play in Tacoma) are the secondary squad for Seattle Sounders FC with a mix of young academy products and players that aren't quite good enough to have a full MLS contract. They moved from the second-division USL Championship to an MLS-run third-division league and found more success there, playing against fellow reserve teams instead of the occasional real club. This list is formatted the same as my recent soccer season lists, with some modifications to accommodate some quirks of minor-league soccer, such as a lack of reliable attendance figures. Comments
[edit]- Image caption is a complete sentence so needs a full stop
- Fixed.
- "The higher-seeded teams [plural] in each round hosts [singular] the match"
- Fixed.
- "are able to sent their MLS Next Pro team" - send....?
- Fixed.
- "A second-division league in U.S. men's soccer that was originally named USL Pro from 2011 to 2014 and United Soccer League (USL) from 2015 to 2018" - it can't have been originally named both things. I suggest ""A second-division league in U.S. men's soccer formed in 2011 that was named USL Pro from 2011 to 2014 and United Soccer League (USL) from 2015 to 2018""
- Reworked a bit more based off your suggestion.
- That's it, I think! Great work as ever, Bruce! -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:10, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]Source review: Passed
- Reliable enough for the information being cited
- Consistent date formatting
- Consistent and proper reference formatting
- Appropriate wikilinks where applicable
- Spot checks on 15 sources match what they are being cited for
Feedback:
- Maybe I'm missing it, but I'm not seeing an explanation as to why they moved from the second to third division. Perhaps you could add a note to the 2022 division column to simply mention they were relegated or something?
- The move is explained in the second sentence of the second paragraph. Added a note in case it needed to be made clearer.
- Ref 6 – I feel a bit iffy about Tacoma Defiance being listed as the publisher, given that the source lists "Sounders FC Communications". However, I do recognize under the Tacoma Defiance's section of the site.
- While the Defiance are now wholly under the Sounders umbrella, I treat the situation similar to how Sounders content is sometimes hosted on the MLS website but still should be credited to the club.
- Ref 11 – Seattle Sounds FC hasn't been linked yet, can add wikilink here
- Added.
- Could use archive links in case any link goes down some day
- Will run the bot once a few more links get picked up.
That's all I've got. Good stuff as always SounderBruce. Please ping me when you reply. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:07, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- @Hey man im josh: Thanks for the review. I've left some replies above. SounderBruce 23:34, 4 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks @SounderBruce. I did see that there was a new division created, but it wasn't clear to me why they had moved down a level, as in my eyes, it would always be preferred to be a higher division. The note adds clarity to the table that I think people would wonder about, so I'm happy. Regarding ref 6, I felt that was your approach, and it does make sense on a fundamental level. I'll go ahead and support. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:42, 5 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Spell out USL on the first mention
- Added, though it is awkward because USL refers to both the league's former name as well as its management organization.
- In the table why are only PPG and USOC linked? (This may be a me issue but I cant click the link it just sorts the table)
- PPG is the only term that requires more explanation and is generally linked in other soccer season FLs; similarly, the national cup (USOC) is linked because it requires more explanation. Not sure how the link/sort can be fixed, but it works fine when the link target is instead opened as a new tab/window.
- The "Ref" column should be "Ref(s)"
- Fixed.
- "after MLS withdrew" I think this instance should be "the MLS" becasue its about the organisation specifically.
- In American English, "the Major League Soccer" is incorrect, so it carries over into the abbreviated version, similar to how "the MLB" is also incorrect.
- I think Ref 10 should also be tagged as a press release
- Good catch, that has been fixed.
- Archive all sources
- Done for sources that could be archived by the bot.
- That's what I found ping me when done Olliefant (she/her) 13:12, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
