Large language models/ChatGPT

Hi. I've been looking for advice on how to detect such text without using a commercial tool, but I can't find anything. Can you give me any hints? Deb (talk) 09:08, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Deb AI/ChatGPT likes to write in a way that makes the sbj. sound very... good, often using WP:WEASEL and WP:PEACOCK words. Usually AI works don't have links added, are quite plain, and sometimes the user forgets to change the formatting, so there might be random "***"s at places. However that doesn't mean users will never add links to AI-written works, or never remove those "bad formats".

Sometimes it will begin with text that the user forgot to remove, like "For sure! Here is a 100 word paragraph on Jane Doe.", or "Anything else I can help with?".

I usually just use commercial tools like GPTZero, copying and pasting the text, but sometimes it's inaccurate, or will show 51% probability (which means that it isn't sure, which doesn't help). Myrealnamm (💬Let's talk · 📜My work) 00:26, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. That's helpful. I feel like it would be good to have some kind of advice on this. I always feel silly when I delete something for advertising and someone else points out that it's been auto-generated. I wouldn't feel confident enough to say so. Esentially, what I want to do is to add additional information about the neighborhood (it is very short right now). Hi, I reverted your edit to that page because AI does not write in a neutral POV, and are usually not used in Wikipedia (or any encyclopedia's) text. If you do plan on using chatbot-generated text, I strongly recommend you check over the text numerous times before publishing, and making necessary changes. Hi, the draft is significantly better than before :) . There are still some WP:PEACOCK terms hanging around, though I've helped a little with that in the lead sentences. Try removing those WP:PEACOCK terms and try writing in a neutral point of view.
