hello why did u become my mentor and can i edit any article ? --Wail btn (talk) 20:09, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi! Every new editor receives a mentor, who helps new editors like you with questions relating to Wikipedia. To answer your question, yes, you can edit most articles by clicking the “edit” link at the top of the page. Some articles are protected from editing to prevent vandalism, however, once you make a certain number of edits you will be able to dit them. Happy editing! Question from Usmanhamma on National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (15:16, 26 February 2025)
[edit]Hello, how are you? It's been two days since you last worked. Are you in good health? I want my job. --Usmanhamma (talk) 15:16, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Usmanhamma I think you have confused Wikipedia with a job-finding site? I am in good health, thanks for asking. But I do not know you, nor do I work at National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. But I do know that there is a page called Wikipedia:Contributing to Wikipedia where you can learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Question from Camwill011 (02:08, 6 March 2025)
[edit]Hello there,
When making edits to a page based on an external source (i.e. I'm editing a page on a former college professor and I'm using a page from the college they worked at about them), how should I cite that source in general? I believe on the article I was working on there was nothing dedicated to "Works Cited." Should I have started something along these lines?
Thank you! --Camwill011 (talk) 02:08, 6 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Camwill011 That’s a great question. Citing sources can always be tricky on Wikipedia. In the visual editor (which is what you have used for editing) look for the “cite” button:
. There, you can add in the website URL and it should automatically do it for you. Be sure to add the citation after the sentence (look at the ones already present on the article for examples). Happy editing! Myrealnamm (💬Let's talk · 📜My work) 12:33, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

COPYVIO concern rectified
[edit]Adding sandboxed material that is not visible to public, but only to editors in HTML markup is arguably not COPYVIO, but in any case, to submit to you concern, the material was removed, even from the hidden quote area. 98.226.86.66 (talk) 15:41, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- It doesn’t matter. The problem is that the copyrighted material is on Wikipedia, and has to be hidden by an administrator. I’ll leave it up to the administrator who will review the page shortly to decide, but I have restored the copyvio template. Myrealnamm (💬Let's talk · 📜My work) 15:45, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- OK, let's try, at least between us, to rectfy this and come to agreement. We pasted in an extensive quote from an article, (a) into a "quote =" field of a {{cite web... template, in the citation from which the quote was drawn, and (b) then hid the quote from sight using <!-- markup. We then (c) removed the offending quote, when questioned by a registered editor. (So, presently, the material that raised the COPYVIO concern is no longer present.) Please tell me how the tag, and an administrator's review is still relevant, and necessary? I propose it is unnecessary, and likely to lead to further issues based in misunderstanding. Finally, two points. First, all advice we are given says that one cannot violate copyright in the way described above, steps (a) and (b), because there is no presentation/publication of the "offending" material; it always remained hidden from sight. Second, this sort of respond-to-bot-outputs-and-take-action kind of process was the very reason that some of us left WP, despite many hundreds of thousands of edits. When we shoot first, and ask questions later, we are often shooting our own. 98.226.86.66 (talk) 19:14, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- Let me explain. Some people like to look for places that have potential copyright problems. What the template does is to request an administrator to look at the page so that that revision cannot be seen and opened by a non-administrator.
- It seems like it was my misunderstanding, because an administrator has hidden that revision two hours ago, and I did not see it. I sincerely apologize for this as I was not aware that it was deleted. I have now removed the copyvio tag, as it was, indeed, no longer necessary since almost 2 hours ago. I hope you understand. Myrealnamm (💬Let's talk · 📜My work) 19:24, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

I felt that my reverts were justified through the fact that the talk page comments were personal attacks that included ableist remarks, but at your request, I will stop reverting. I appreciate your calling for me to disengage there. JeffSpaceman (talk) 18:57, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- @JeffSpaceman Yes, you're absolutely right. But sometimes feeding the trolls makes them more engaged, so normally I just stop if they keep attacking people. I like to let the admin do it. Why waste time on trolls. Myrealnamm (💬Let's talk · 📜My work) 18:59, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- Fair point. I have a habit of continuing to revert until talk page access is pulled -- maybe I should work to abandon that in the future, or at least wait until talk page access has been pulled to remove such content. Thank you for discussing this. JeffSpaceman (talk) 19:01, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

Texas A&M’s President Michael K. Young
[edit]You deleted my edit for lack of citation. I have provided citations. Please reinstate edits.
In June, 2020, following an incident involving racist notes left on Isaih Martin's, a senior at Texas A&M, car, Young released this statement:
“Acts of racism are irreconcilable with the values we uphold here at Texas A&M University,” said Young. “Those who promote hate, discrimination and disrespect are not welcomed at this institution. We are tired of bigoted members of our community marring the experiences of students of color. For those found responsible of racial or ethnic harassment, we can and will enforce appropriate sanctions under our code of student conduct, which allows us to pursue action against stalking, harassment and related retaliation that violate a person’s civil rights.https://x.com/TAMU/status/1276216858048331777?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1276216858048331777%7Ctwgr%5Ed8bb14b8433294e0425e51e4191910b504434b3d%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kbtx.com%2F2020%2F06%2F25%2Fam-president-offers-reward-for-info-on-racist-incident-on-campus%2F
"https://www.kbtx.com/2020/06/25/am-president-offers-reward-for-info-on-racist-incident-on-campus/
President Young also offered a $1,200 reward for valid information leading to identifying the person or people responsible for the "racist incident on Texas A&M’s property." https://www.kbtx.com/2020/06/25/am-president-offers-reward-for-info-on-racist-incident-on-campus/
Subsequently, Texas A&M University released copies of videos, photos, and audio clips from nearby surveillance equipment, which investigators used to see who was around Martin’s car in the moments before he claimed to have found the letters. Based on the clips, the investigators determined that Martin was the only person around his car long enough to place the letters there himself. https://www.kbtx.com/2020/07/29/am-police-release-video-used-to-help-close-case-deemed-a-hoax-involving-racist-letters/ 65.131.192.213 (talk) 19:01, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

- @Cstull98 the problem with ChatGPT is that the tone it uses is not suitable for encyclopedias, for example
"became known for its pioneering role in the steel and natural gas industries."
, or"Leechburg became a hub of innovation and heavy industry."
. The problem with the first sentence is WP:NPOV, and the second one contains is pretty much "useless", the average reader doesn't need to know that it is "a hub of innovation and heavy industry". Myrealnamm (💬Let's talk · 📜My work) 21:59, 10 April 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hello - thank you for the feedback and direction on how to improve the page. I believe I added items that meet the criteria for reliable, independent, and verifiable sources and included a reference list. Based on the criteria that I read, believe the new links qualify. Can I ask you a question? My boyfriend is a French track cyclist that had won many championships, both national, European and a word Championship in track cycling. But for some reason, only 1 of them is mentioned in the article about him on Wikipedia.

- Did someone leave a note regarding your edit? Usually the person who reverted your edit would leave you a note about why your edit was reverted
- If it was removed because there was no source, see WP:CITE on how to add a source, and try adding your edit again with reliable sources
- Try that and let me know if you have any more questions. Myrealnamm (💬Let's talk · 📜My work) 15:10, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
