Thank you today for Shovel Knight Showdown, "about a video game that was the last add-on to Shovel Knight. After my last FAC was archived, I've decided to revisit the Shovel Knight franchise to see if there is room for a Featured article somewhere. So let's start small with the last of the expansions, an interesting party game that was not as impactful as TowerFall or Smash Bros., but is still worth a quick visit."! - I have Michael Ruetz on the same page (see story), and music to express happiness and sadness. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:19, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Listen today to Beethoven's 3rd cello sonata, on his birthday - it was a hook in the 2020 DYK set when his 250th birthday was remembered. how to create my page on wikipedia --Rabia Raheel (talk) 15:22, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How do I properly nominate a recreated article for deletion that has gone through CSD once?

[edit]

I do not know this process, but I am trying to nominate Naveen Singh Suhag for deletion. How do I do the nomination? DACartman (talk) 07:02, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DACartman You can try nominating the article at Articles for deletion by giving an argument about why the subject of the page does not meet notability guidelines. Notability is a complex subject on Wikipedia, but put simply means that a subject can't have an article unless there are multiple reliable sources (such as books or reputable newspapers) that discuss the subject in-depth. If you have questions about notability, I suggest reading the blue-linked pages in this comment, or you can ask at the teahouse for clarification. Benjamin Radford - continued vandalism

[edit]

Hi Fathoms, I noticed that you temporarily added the {{pp-vandalism}} template to Benjamin Radford following several attempts of vandalism/unconstructive edits on the page in the subject's early life section. It appears as though this has started again today here and I thought I'd make you aware in case you feel the template should be added back in. Hope you have a great day ahead!

Question from QMJohannasan (18:31, 31 December 2024)

[edit]

Hi Fathoms Below,

I have partnered with Wikipedia before and am having a bit of difficulty accessing my old work. I have journaled many research papers and they seem to be down, this may be predominately due to my having been an investor and an invitee due to my work and partnership with Wikipedia having been held while I was absent or incapacitated due to research. My name is Quincy Johnson and I discovered LCOR and invented a device called the "at home MRI" which was used to losslessly zoom in a camera format in the stars and in the laboratory which achieved the location and the description of several chemicals and proteins which were in high demand, one of which LCOR (Wikipedia and I had a very interesting chat regarding this and chemical modelling as I consulted you to help me with what I perceived as your invention a very handy chemical modelling software). As I had also had a confirmed quantum computer I had a very quick method for deriving a new protein modelling system which simply added color to what was already a zoomed in photo and video of proteins near alive cells while they worked, please see QN6JN0, Modeller and the Swiss Model for proteins are using this software I created and have ceased crediting me, breaking the security in my quantum computations none, but allowing advancement in the science none as well. This has led to discrepancy like the aforementioned protein being the Boson or the quark in the news, it was not. Any help retrieving my old work and getting the news readied? I also used quantum to solve for Cuneiform as a language that could be translated to English and developed many texts including the Dead Sea Scrolls and Digital Giza the latter I'm sure you helped with. --QMJohannasan (talk) 18:31, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@QMJohannasan Hi there, I'm not sure I fully understand. I can only help you learn how to edit Wikipedia, and I can't help you with your "partnership with Wikipedia" if you have any. Fathoms Below (talk) 18:43, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I had some. Thanks! QMJohannasan (talk) 18:59, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

[edit]

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hi @Ellesmere.Port.News1. First, do you have a conflict of interest with Ellesmere Port News? If you do, I suggest reading the page in blue that I just linked. Creating articles about your business or company is highly discouraged and if you do have a COI, you will have to submit the article through Articles for Creation where it will be reviewed for publishing in the main article space. Also, your username might not comply with the username policy as it apparently stands for a website, so I have blocked your account from editing. However, feel free to create a new account or request for it to be renamed and I or another admin can unblock it. Also, be aware that editing Wikipedia for the purpose of advertising and promotion isn't permitted. Fathoms Below (talk) 02:29, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2025 March newsletter

[edit]

The first round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As a reminder, we are no longer disqualifying the lowest-scoring contestants; everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned from Wikipedia. Instead, the contestants with the highest round-point totals now receive tournament points at the end of each round. Unlike the round points in the main WikiCup table, which are reset at the end of each round, tournament points are carried over between rounds and can only be earned if a competitor is among the top 16 round-point scorers. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far.

Round 1 was very competitive compared with previous years; two contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 500 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 18 featured articles, 26 featured lists, 1 featured-topic article, 197 good articles, 38 good-topic articles and more than 100 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 23 In the News articles, and they have conducted nearly 550 reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2, which begins on 1 March. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
