[edit]

Shouldn't the name be in the "(2024-present)" date format thing instead of this new version? 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 11:24, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be right (Kachin offensive (2024–present), M23 campaign (2022–present)). I don't know how to change an article's name but maybe I'll figure it out. 1101 (talk) 09:59, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I made an additional change to the name—if you have any feedback on it let me know. 1101 (talk) 04:09, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I recently review (patrolled) Airstrike campaign in Yemen (a redirect back to this page). Should we move this to the no parathesis version? Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 09:38, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. 1101 (talk) 09:39, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not just missiles

[edit]

It’s a full bombing campaign, title needs to change 176.55.193.201 (talk) 13:12, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like the sources refer to "rounds of airstrikes", which seems consistent with the current title of the article. Another source refers to the "humanitarian crisis in Yemen", which has a section in a different article: Yemeni Crisis § Humanitarian crisis. It's also referred to as a "U.S. military operation" and "deadly U.S. strikes" and "airstrikes" . But you're not wrong to call it a "large-scale bombing offensive" or "bombing campaign", either.
 • "U.S. strikes" "Yemen" "2025": 9,540,000 results — I worry this deëmphasizes the U.K. role a bit too much.
 • "military operation" "Yemen" "2025": 161,000 results — This isn't very specific, what kind of weapons are being used?
 • "missile strikes" "Yemen" "2025": 101,000 results — This is more popular, and the current title of the article. It specifies what kind of weapon is being used.
 • "bombing campaign" "Yemen" "2025": 47,900 results — This is also accurate and specific, but may be a slightly less recognizable title
 • "deadly strikes" "Yemen" "2025": 19,100 results
 • "airstrike campaign" "Yemen" "2025": 7,100 results
 • "U.S. operation" "Yemen" "2025": 6,610 results
 • "rounds of strikes" "Yemen" "2025": 6,320 results
 • "rounds of airstrikes" "Yemen" "2025": 2,810 results
 • "large-scale bombing" "Yemen" "2025": 803 results
 • "bombing offensive" "Yemen" "2025": 361 results
In conclusion, I think all of these phrases can or should be used in the article and feel free to do so—but I think the title should probably remain "2024–2025 missile strikes in Yemen"; though I'm not entirely opposed to calling it "2024–2025 bombing campaign in Yemen" or "2024–2025 military operation in Yemen", I don't see why we should fix what isn't broken. 1101 (talk) 09:49, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if it's not just missiles, but some other kind of bomb, then maybe the title should change for the sake of accuracy. Which source or what kind of bomb are you referring to? 1101 (talk) 09:50, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've been thinking about what you said, and I think you're right. Both bombs and missiles are being used. But "bombing campaign and missiles strikes" is too long, even if more complete. And most sources seem to emphasize the U.S. missiles before mentioning the U.K.'s bombs, if at all. 1101 (talk) 10:23, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe it should be called Airstrike campaign in Yemen (2024–present)? It's certainly a full-fledged military operation or campaign, including multiple waves of missile strikes. 1101 (talk) 10:40, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, after changing my mind back and fourth too many times, I've decided that the page should be moved to "Airstrike campaign in Yemen (2024–present)". But I'm not doing that unless someone else says I can because I've already changed the name once recently and that isn't a title I've gotten feedback on yet. 1101 (talk) 10:44, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to move it anyway and see what happens. Feel free to revert. You'd be justified given the apparent lack of discussion but I'm impatient and curious if this'll get the renaming discussion going. 1101 (talk) 04:05, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
looks good tho you should've started an rm 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 10:09, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see there is a Template now. Thank you for letting me know. 1101 (talk) 19:56, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 25 March 2025

Airstrike campaign in YemenUS-led airstrike campaign in Yemen – First, to avoid confusion with Airstrikes on Yemen; second, to be in accordance with reporting such as "US [...] airstrikes in Yemen", "US campaign against the Houthis", and "US airstrikes [...] across Yemen" [1]; third, to match other Wikipedia articles such as US-led intervention in Iraq (2014–2021) 1101 (talk) 05:17, 25 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The proposed title undermines the UK's involvement here 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 13:22, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the sources emphasize the US's role, so I think it's appropriate to call it US-led. We should also call it the US–UK airstrike campaign in Yemen, though. 1101 (talk) 21:01, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Or simply US–UK airstrikes on Yemen, since that's shorter. 1101 (talk) 07:56, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
 • Support (but lowercase). No relevant distinction can be drawn between "airstrikes in Yemen" and "airstrike campaign in Yemen". The current titles are incompatible. Srnec (talk) 00:41, 26 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and moved it to the lower-case version (US-led airstrike campaign in Yemen). 1101 (talk) 03:37, 26 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Again, same gentle reminder to allow seven days minimum for formal requested moves so that editors may have time to participate if they would like. Thanks, and sorry for the mixups, editor 1101. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 09:07, 26 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. And, well, I have now moved the page (again), but I will not close the move discussion since I am not supposed to because I am involved and opinionated. Someone else should feel free to either close the discussion if it isn't continuing or continue the discussion if they feel the current name isn't ideal. Other names to be considered include:
 • Missile strikes in Yemen (2024–present)
 • US-led airstrike campaign in Yemen
 • Airstrike campaign in Yemen (2024–present)
Feel free to propose moving the article to one of these other names if you disagree, but please don't revert it to the old (ambiguous) name. 1101 (talk) 02:52, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Would you prefer I change it to US–UK airstrikes on Yemen, or just US-led airstrike campaign in Yemen? I think both would be an improvement, but I'm now unsure which change to make and I feel unable to close the discussion, which started 11 days ago, though I'm eager to. Can someone just move the page to any title better than this one? These procedures are confusing and I feel the conversation seems a bit dead rn. 1101 (talk) 05:44, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Support US–UK airstrikes on Yemen as it is the more accurate name 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 07:13, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the category sort key from

Change

to

since it covers multiple years, 2024 isn't a good sort key, and sorting into the numbers section (section 0-9) isn't obvious why it should appear there on the category listing, since nothing in the title indicates anything.
