Restoring edits

@Guliolopez Saw that you added the citations banner at the top. I just now restored edits that I made on this article earlier this month that had two more references, it's not enough but I figured it would be a good idea to make this notice. Hi. Thanks for your note. The following text (which you added/reinstated without consideration to WP:NPOV and WP:NOTPROMO) represent a form of overtly promotional editorial. And, per the related tags, are not supported by the existing references. I have (again) removed the inappropriate editorial flourishes. Including:

located in the ~~picturesque~~ town of Midyat
symbolizes the ~~rich~~ history and hospitality of the region
~~Cultural impact~~ --> Tourism (Section headings are not exempt from NPOV guidelines should not "lead" the reader).
attracts [..] tourists [..] interested in the ~~rich~~ history and culture of the Tur Abdin region
The guesthouse serves as an ~~ideal~~ base for exploring the historical sites of Midyat

Even if this promotional commentary was supported by the references (and it is not) the WP:ATTRIBUTEPOV guideline would expect that the subjective editorial opinions expressed in this text would need to be attributed to a named someone. Guliolopez (talk) 11:19, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think the main issue here is once again the ethnic name, please refrain from changing this. It was originally written as Aramean, source did not state that neither does it state Assyrian, but Syriac. Wlaak (talk) 14:58, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The source did not say Syriac, it said Suryani/Suryaniler. Again, Suryaniler can mean both Assyrian and Syriac. I mentioned that I reverted my edits on this article at the ANI, and none of the sources outright say Aramean. Instead of changing the name, Kivercik is outright removing all of the new content added. If there really is POV-pushing, than this is certainly not the way to handle it. Not really, according to Turkish literature and dictionary, it is explicitly translated as Syriac, what something can mean is not what something is. Süryani could also technically mean Aramean, however that is not the correct translation of the term.

I'd suggest you'd refer to WikiPedia's sisterproject Wikitionary for the meaning of the term. [1] Or perhaps even this Oxford dictionary. [2]

It also seems as the definition of the term itself is the following in Turkish:

"Samilerin Arami kolunun doğu bölümünde olan bir Hristiyan topluluğu ve bu topluluktan olan kimse." [3]

Keep in mind this is the official definition of the term per the Turkish government, and according to them, the most fitting term would be "Aramaic Christian".

Again, I am not taking any side, you are pushing for Assyrian and he is for Aramean, source states Syriac, which is defined as a Aramaic Christian according to the Turkish government, the label should be one of these, which one do you prefer? Wlaak (talk) 15:32, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
