Release of your radioactive water into the ocean.

[edit]

Why can’t the radioactive waste water be re-used to cool the reactors again and again? 199.66.168.42 (talk) 14:57, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Inability to remove tritium from the coolant water.

[edit]

The reason why you can't remove the tritium from the water via the advanced liquid purification system (ALPS) like the other radionuclides is that the interactions of the water with the melted reactor fuel created them, and then they have become intrinsic parts of the water molecules. Therefore you can't actually separate the tritium atoms from the oxygen in the water. Furthermore, it's actually not that dangerous when you compare it to other tritium sources. Ah, is this in reference to the "vague" tag in the lead? On rereading that sentence I think that it's actually fine as it is and that the tag should be removed. The point about the tritium being part of the water molecule is mentioned in the aftermath section, and seems an unnecessarily technical detail for the lead section to me. I also have supporting documents from my trip to FDNPS, I will be able to upload some of them. PlausibleToasterLabRat (talk) 00:26, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
