[edit]The keynote said that it is the pencil that detects force, NOT the screen, contrary to this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.225.114.60 (talk) 01:43, 11 September 2015 (UTC)<!— Template:Unsigned IP —> <!—Autosigned by SineBot-->
I wish people (especially on Wikipedia) would stop taking Steve Jobs's quote about styluses out of context. He was referring to the new capacitive multi-touch interface not requiring a stylus, as opposed to previous surfaces that required one (either because they did not support capacitive touch, or because the UI required the precision of an arrow tip). Also, he was making that comment in the context of a phone. Apple clearly demonstrated the purpose of the Apple Pencil as drawing on a larger surface, and the primary input device for the iPad Pro is still your finger.99.100.96.57 (talk) 14:13, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
The Apple Pencil is not a Stylus
[edit]A stylus is used to input and and select icons, that is not what this is. This is exactly what it says it is, its a pencil, albeit, a digital one. Its use appears to be for drawing, not for inputting. Apple does not call it a stylus, although a few misinformed sources seem to. Any reference to it being a stylus should be removed, as well as the misguided section on Steve Jobs disapproval of a stylus, which this "pencil" clearly is not.--JOJ Hutton 02:06, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
- Maybe digital pen would be a better descriptor. However we'd need a reliable source that makes such distinction to include it in the article (and I think that stub article could be merged into digital stylus, as they're instances of the same general idea). - The Apple Pencil is a stylus because it’s a pen-shaped tool that can be used to interact with touchscreen devices. mel ❤ talk 17:12, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
Misuse of "the"?
[edit]"Apple Pencil" is a product name, not a "pencil" (although it resembles it, ofc). Is the use of "the" or "an" before the such name really correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.144.114.110 (talk) 14:03, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Missing information on position detection
[edit]Shouldn't this article include information on how the position is detected? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A0A:A541:64B6:0:2578:6F8B:3BC6:8028 (talk) 05:17, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
Need to add a photo of Apple Pencil Two
[edit]The only image on the page is a bit outdated and I think the page can benefit from the addition of more images.

Apple Pencil Pro Merger
[edit]I propose that the article Apple Pencil Pro be merged into this article, Apple Pencil. I feel that the content in Apple Pencil Pro can be explained in the main Apple Pencil article, and that it could be easily consolidated and merged into the existing Apple Pencil Pro heading in the specifications part of the page (shown in [1]).
The reason I'm proposing the article be merged is that I don't see any reason why the article exists, especially considering no other model of Apple Pencil has its own page. However if there's a good reason for Apple Pencil Pro to exist, feel free to close the discussion and keep the article.
Thank you. Ad3245 (talk) 16:29, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

- Support. Readers will be better served to read about the different models at this same page. If a WP:SIZESPLIT is needed later, that will be easy done after any content expansion done here. — HTGS (talk) 06:28, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
