The Museum of Crimes Against Humanity and Genocide 1992–1995 (Bosnian: Muzej zločina protiv čovječnosti i genocida 1992–1995; Serbo-Croatian Cyrillic: Музеј злочина против човјечности и геноцида 1992–1995) is a memorial and educational museum located in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was established in July 2016 with the aim of preserving the memory of the victims of the Bosnian War, particularly the atrocities committed between 1992 and 1995.

History

The museum was founded by a group of survivors and young professionals dedicated to documenting the crimes of the Bosnian War and educating the public about the consequences of violence and human rights abuses. It serves as a platform for confronting the past and fostering a culture of remembrance and peace.[1]

Exhibitions

The museum houses a variety of exhibitions featuring personal items belonging to victims, photographs, official documents, and multimedia presentations. There are reconstructions of detention camps, prison cells, and mass graves, as well as survivor testimonies and documentary footage. Particular attention is given to the Srebrenica massacre and the operations of detention centers such as Omarska and Trnopolje.[2]

The museum is located at Ferhadija street in central Sarajevo, making it easily accessible for both locals and international visitors. Its proximity to major historical landmarks enhances its visibility and role in Sarajevo’s cultural and educational landscape.[3]

Mission

The museum's mission is to raise awareness about human rights violations and to honor the memory of the victims of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide committed during the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through education and public engagement, it contributes to the global discourse on peace-building and prevention of mass atrocities.[1]
