Draft:Guerilla Gardening Narrm

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  • Comment: See WP:COI. None of the sources mention the organisation by this name. It appears to be a misspelling.
It's unclear what is meant by "so-called Melbourne" or italicised Brisbane. Use links for context, and don't try and use Wikipedia to Right great wrongs.
External links should also be removed or converted to inline citations where appropriate.
Also, this is meant to be an encyclopedia article, not a place to copy entire chunks from the organisation's website. What do independent third parties say about it? Greenman (talk) 09:41, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

Guerilla Gardening Naarm is a collective actively promoting growing local food and reclaiming the commons via Guerilla gardening across Woiwurrung country of Melbourne.

History

[edit]

Guerilla Gardening Naarm was established in late 2023 and established its first garden called the "Radicle Roots Commons" on 16/12/2023. The garden was initially called the Radicle Roots community garden and changed names in December 2024 to the "Radicle Roots Commons" to better reflect the intentions and alignment with other Commons projects.

Guerilla Gardening Naarm was inspired by a similar collective in Kurilpa and Meanjin / Brisbane called "Growing Forward Kurilpa[1]".

Council support

[edit]

A Motion to "Save De Chene Reserve Community Garden" was put forward at a Merri-bek City Council meeting on Wednesday the 14th of February[2].

The council passed the following unanimously:

That Council:

1. Reiterates its support for community-led community gardens.

2. Congratulates Guerrilla Gardening Naarm on the establishment of the garden at De Chene Reserve and notes that officers are supporting the group to establish the garden safely and sustainably. 3. Requests officers to update the Community Garden Guidelines in 2024 to streamline the process and make it easier for community groups to seek approvals for future community gardens.

4. Investigates the feasibility of installing a tap nearby to support watering of the community garden.[3]

Events

[edit]

Guerilla Gardening Naarm have run a number of workshops, events and stalls at events such as the "Workshop: Commoning & Resilient Community Organising"[4] as part of the National Sustainable Living Festival 2025[5]

Values

[edit]

The collective has a set of values outlined on their website, labelled in short:

Always was, always is, always will be.

Food should be free.

No bosses – non hierarchical and community led.

Mistakes are welcome.

Solidarity.

This garden belongs to all of us.[6]

Involvement

[edit]

Guerilla Gardening Naarm have monthly meetings that are open to the community. They have an email on the website, an Instagram and Facebook account as well as a Fundraiser on their website for maintaining and developing their community guerilla gardening approaches.
