Since this project is believed to be inactive

[edit]

I wonder if it should be "merged" to another project, join Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Awards#Wikipedia:WikiProject_Orders,_decorations,_and_medals if you have an opinion. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:23, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't belove this project is inactive at all, I edit along side some of these editors weekly. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 23:51, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Source for MBE awarded to Trinidad citizen in 2003?

[edit]

Could someone find an official or otherwise reliable source for an MBE awarded in 2003, for services to midwifery, to Allyson Ingrid Williams? She was a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago at the time, though resident in UK since 1969, and this page lists Commonwealth countries whose citizens can be awarded honours but doesn't include Trinidad and Tobago, although it's a Commonwealth country. One source said she was awarded an Honorary MBE in June 2003, suggesting Birthday Honours.

I'm sure there's a UK honours system expert around this WikiProject who will have the answer at their fingertips... at least, I hope so! Thanks in anticipation. PamD 21:00, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've reviewed all available official honours lists from 2000 to 2003, as it's commonly claimed that Allyson Ingrid Williams was awarded an MBE in 2002 ([1]). However, I could not find any record of that name or a close variant among MBE recipients in The London Gazette or other official sources during that timeframe. While several secondary sources describe her as an MBE recipient, including university and carnival organisation websites, none cite or link to an official honours list or government record. Without verification from a reliable primary source, the claim remains unconfirmed and should be treated with caution per Wikipedia's sourcing standards. @Nford24 The editor working on her draft article (@Balance person) adds "I understand from the autobiography that at first she was offered an MBE, people assuming she was a British citizen, and when she filled in a form stating Trinidadian as her nationality there was a problem. I think the FCO then had to ask the head of Trinidad and Tobago, as an independent nation, if it would be okay to offer an honorary MBE and evidently the answer was yes and she was offered one of those instead." Does that help? Where would an honorary MBE be announced? PamD 07:51, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Honorary MBE's are also announced in the London Gazette, I checked that when I did the search and found no match. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 21:22, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the coverage of honorary awards in the LG is patchy. I've found several people who definitely had honorary awards who aren't mentioned anywhere. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:12, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Necrothesp Thanks, that's encouraging, in a way! @Balance person, I reckon we're not going to find the sourcing unless someone has access to Trinidadian newspapers which might have listed it at the time (or, I suppose, a search of British newspaper archives might pick it up, as presumably someone will have written about it in at least her local paper?) And I see you've moved her to mainspace anyway, good. PamD 15:01, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for chasing this along PamD. I appreciate your care. Balance person (talk) 15:52, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
