Nembrotha lineolata first sentence

[edit]

Hi gastropod enthusiasts. I encountered the article on Nembrotha lineolata and was confronted with this first sentence:

Nembrotha lineolata is a species of nudibranch, a sea slug, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Polyceridae.

I looked at the other Nembrotha species, and they mostly have variations of this first sentence (though some – like Nembrotha aurea – put "sea slug" before "nudibranch"). Many other nudibranch articles have similar first sentences as well.

To me, this sentence feels rather clunky. I don't think it's necessary to know that this species is a nudibranch and a sea slug and a marine gastropod and a mollusk and in the family Polyceridae. But I have no experience with writing gastropod articles. So I'm asking here: Should this sentence be trimmed, and if so, how should it be written instead? Also, should "marine" link to Ocean, Marine life, or something else entirely? For reference, here's a link to the lone FA-class gastropod article, Laevistrombus canarium.

I've noticed that a lot of the first sentences have this problem, I've also noticed a "sea of blue" problem, especially with land snails; the sentence "terrestrial gastropod mollusks" is not as uncommon as it ought to be. World's Okayest Student (talk) 04:25, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Drymaeus poecilus GA nomination

[edit]

Hello everyone! After spending some time working on it, I’ve decided to nominate Drymaeus poecilus for Good Article (GA) status. This is a significant step, especially given how little is known about the species, and about Drymaeus as a whole. I'm excited to give it a shot! I’ll do my best to provide any additional information the reviewers might need. Feel free to jump in as a reviewer, or lend a hand in promoting the article. Your support is very welcome! Merging Wikiprojects

[edit]

Maybe we should have a Wikiproject mollusks instead of a bunch of Wikiprojects on different types of mollusk. Zhenghecaris (talk) 20:19, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't object to be honest, but how active are the other projects, I wonder? Daniel Cavallari (talk) 20:52, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know there is only one thing in the talk page of Wikiproject bivalves and no other Wikiprojects. Zhenghecaris (talk) 21:27, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In my experience, the most substantial discussion happens at WT:TOL. The more taxon-specific projects (such as this one and WP:ARTH) are still important, though. The difference is that the taxon-specific projects are more geared towards content, while WP:TOL basically does nothing other than serve as a central discussion page for interested editors. Recent GAs

[edit]

Hey folks! Just to let you know, we've had some articles recently promoted to GA! Check it out:

Also, Megalobulimus dryades is currently under review if you want to drop by!

Cheers!- Daniel Cavallari (talk) 21:01, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Gemmula diomeda

[edit]

I think the page Gemmula diomedea should be moved to Oliveragemmula diomedea. The reason is because sources like WoRMS and OBIS have changed it to that and Gemmula diomedea is now a superseded combination. What do you think? Vestrix (talk) 03:29, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Done. JoJan (talk) 10:50, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
