About AAG (1900 automobile)
[edit]@PrinceTortoise, Boccherini's Guitar, Buchbibliothek, and Primefac: Looking at the page history of this article, it would appear that the https://motor-car.net/german/item/15762-aag-1900-01 website *used* this little English language Wikipedia stub on its website, rather than the other way around, in particular the 5 July 2017 version. I see the https://motor-car.net/ claims to me "the Motor car History Website Since 2003" but each page has "© 2025"... to which I would say, meh, it's just an automobile fan site. PrinceTortoise, there's more about this sort of thing at WP:MAF. Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 09:01, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Shirt58, Boccherini's Guitar, Buchbibliothek, and Primefac: I'm sorry for getting this wrong. As this is the second time in one week that I've unsuccessfully requested a speedy deletion for copyright violations (and accused innocent editors in the process), I think I'll start using {{Copypaste}} rather than {{Db-g12}} in all cases, at least for my next few thousand edits. And I'll definitely review WP:MAF. Again, apologies to all. —PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 19:32, 27 January 2025 (UTC)

Metrosideros bartlettii
[edit]Greetings! The article has undergone a huge rewrite and a lot of off-topic detail was removed. The article also now has a cladogram and an updated map kindly provided by User:Podzemnik. I'm very nervous but also excited to attempt to push this article to FAC once the article is completely ready to be examined. I'm grateful for the comments I've gotten and honestly appreciate when people read it. I'm wondering if you have any final thoughts on the readabilty and organization of the article? There is still a bit more tweaking to do but the core of the article should (hopefully) be pretty good. Cheers! Alexeyevitch(talk) 04:37, 4 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Alexeyevitch! The map and cladogram look great, and I see that despite the removal of some off-topic details, the article has actually grown longer. I have two more major comments:
- Firstly, in the WP:PLANTSTEMPLATE, the distribution and habitat section comes before ecology. I don't know the original reason for this convention, but I do think it might be slightly better organization for ecology to come after distribution and before conservation.
- Secondly, there's still one confusing paragraph in the description:
Flowering occurs from October to November, Bartlett's rātā produces distinct white-coloured flowers and the pedicels it produces are up to 3 × 1, 2.5–3 mm high, 2–2.5 mm wide, and the hypanthium spreading up to 1–1.5 × 1–1.5 mm long. Its sepals are triangular-shaped and are up to 1–1.5 x. 1–1.5 mm, its petals are elliptical to egg-shaped in shape and 2.5–3 mm x 1.8–2 mm long, and the stamens are 5–9 mm long.
I think this could read a bit more smoothly, and I think the sources state the sizes thus:- Flower: no size given
- Pedicel: 3 × 1,
- Hypanthium: 2.5–3 mm high and 2–2.5 mm wide
- Sepals: 1–1.5 mm × 1–1.5 mm (triangular and spreading)
- Petals: 2.5–3 mm × 1.8–2 mm
- Stamens: 5–9 mm long
- Style: 10–11 mm long
- Here's my take on the paragraph:
Flowering in the spring from October to November, M. bartletti produces distinct white-coloured flowers with pedicels up to 3 × 1 mm and a hypanthium up to 2.5–3 mm high × 2–2.5 mm wide. Its spreading sepals are triangle-shaped and up to 1–1.5 × 1–1.5 mm, and its petals are elliptical to egg-shaped in shape and 2.5–3 mm x 1.8–2 mm long. The stamens are 5–9 mm long, and the styles are slightly longer at 10–11 mm.
You don't have to copy that word-for-word, but I think it's one way to improve on the original.
- Once you feel like you've finished any remaining (major) content changes, I can do one last check to fix any minor grammar issues if I have a 48-hour notice before the FAC. Until then, keep up the good work! Cheers, PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 06:35, 4 February 2025 (UTC)
Proposing FAC
[edit]G'day PrinceTortoise! I intend to put the Metrosideros bartlettii article to FAC this weekend... I'm nervous but also excited to see how this will go. I'm satisfied with most sections so far. The only potential issue I'm wondering about is if the "Ecology" section is "engaging and of a professional standard
". Fantastic work has been done recently by Carlos Lehnebach and his colleagues in examing the pollination and flower development of Bartlett's rātā, and work by Curtis's Botanical Magazine has made sourcing this section quite easy but it's challenging making it well-organized and up to professional standard. I would gladlly appreciate if you could give any final advice or fix any minor issues. Either way, thank you, I'm honestly very grateful for the suggestions I've gotten over the past few weeks. :-) Alexeyevitch(talk) 02:09, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Alexeyevitch! My watchlist has been lit up recently by an unending stream of your improvements to Metrosideros bartlettii. It's been fun to watch. I just read through the entire article for the first time since the peer review, and it's in great shape. I also have that mix of nervousness and excitement, but I am hopeful.
- I can do a more thorough review of the prose tomorrow (in UTC, the first two or three hours of 15 February), but I reviewed the ecology section. I made some minor changes, but I'll let you make the call on the larger changes because you know more about this plant than I do.
- At the sentence level, I have three suggestions (actually four, but I only put three in the table):
current | proposed | rationale |
---|---|---|
Metrosideros species are also known to be visited in a comparable manner to native species, by introduced species. This could be due to of the vulnerable nature of oceanic, isolated islands, where the introduction of various species disrupts the biological interactions. | Introduced species are known to visit Metrosideros in a manner comparable to native species. This could be due to the inherent vulnerability of biomes on isolated oceanic islands to disruption by introduced species. | The edit to the first sentence makes it more clear. The edit to the second sentence is mostly to avoid a too-close paraphrase of the source. I also think the phrase "the biological interactions" feels incomplete – it made me wonder What biological interactions? I chose the word "biomes", but Paulay uses "biota". |
The average germination of Bartlett's rātā seeds from hand-pollination from their analyses was generally low, which is consistent with other species in the family Myrtaceae, such as pōhutukawa (M. excelsa) and mānuka (Leptospermum scoparium). | In their analyses, hand-pollination of Bartlett's rātā produced seeds with generally low germination rates, which is consistent with other species in the family Myrtaceae, such as pōhutukawa (M. excelsa) and mānuka (Leptospermum scoparium). | It's probably unnecessary to have "average" and "generally" appear in the same sentence. Additionally, I wanted to avoid the repetition of the word "from". This is what I came up with. |
Although it was speculated that self-incompatibility occurred in Bartlett's rātā, it had never been experimentally confirmed until work by botanists and researchers. | Although it was speculated that self-incompatibility occurred in Bartlett's rātā, it had never been experimentally confirmed until this study. | I think this is a more concise way of saying the same thing. |
- Additionally, the sentence
The research article also revealed that Bartlett's rātā's breeding strategy favours cross-pollination and has very little inbreeding.
feels somewhat lacking. To me, a sentence like this should mention the specific strategy (in this case, dichogamy – see page 7 of van der Walt et al.).
- And in terms of overall organization: Though there are only three paragraphs, I think there are really four parts of the current "ecology" section.
- Pollinators
- Need for cross-pollination in a 2022 study (also hybridization)
- Self-incompatability in 2018 and 2021 studies (also hand pollination)
- Organisms hosted by Bartlett's rātā
- 1 and 4 are discussed without mentioning any specific studies, which is OK and may be the better way to discuss these topics. 2 and 3 address similar things (they both basically cover self-incompatibility) but are treated separately because specific studies are mentioned. Because these two sections are being organized by study, perhaps they should also be ordered by the year the study was published. That is, the ecology section would be in four paragraphs organized thus:
- Pollinators
- The 2018 and 2021 studies
- The 2022 study
- Organisms hosted by Bartlett's rātā
- I'll be back tomorrow to do some last-minute tidying up of the rest of the article, but these are my suggestions for the ecology section. I hope that at least some of this was helpful. Best, PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 08:04, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
- Greetings PrinceTortoise. Thank you so much for your help over these past few weeks. By the way, I'm also in favor of spelling the number in the article (except the description section). You may of noticed that the article has recently been put up on FAC. I sort of fumbled the order of the templates (which is an annoyance) but I'm going to wait for an experienced editor for advice on how to add the template to the article talk page.
- With that said, thank you for your commitment for the article, it's honestly been an honor. Cheers. :-) Alexeyevitch(talk) 03:22, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Alexeyevitch: And so it begins... It's been a pleasure working with you. Wishing you all the best, PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 05:01, 15 February 2025 (UTC)

[edit]@PrinceTortoise Hello and thanks very much for copyediting Kızılırmak Delta.
I know very little about botany. Would you be interested and have time to contribute your botanical knowledge to help me bring Flora of Turkey up to good standard. I am happy to do the donkey work so am mainly looking for hints, tips, sources, structure suggestions and so on Chidgk1 (talk) 08:33, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Chidgk1: I need to finish tidying up a few small things over at Kızılırmak Delta (and Carole Gibbons) first, but then I'd be happy to help with Flora of Turkey. I think Flora of Madagascar will be a good guide for that article. Comparing the two articles, I see a few sections that will need some expansion to meet the GA standard for being broad in coverage, particularly "Non-vascular plants", "Fungi", and "Algae". I think we should aim for a minimum of 50 words per section. For vegetation types, I think it will be best to integrate information from Forests in Turkey and Soil in Turkey rather than use excerpts.
- As a final note, thank you for all you've done to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Turkey over the years. Your work hasn't gone unnoticed. — PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 01:59, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
Greetings

For copyediting & reviewing articles! Alexeyevitch(talk) 23:22, 6 April 2025 (UTC) |
Hi PrinceTortoise. Just checking in to see what you've been up to. You might've seen the Metrosideros bartlettii article got promoted to FA and thought I'd say an additional thank you to you because I couldn't have done it without you, honestly appreciate the effort you put into it. I see above this comment you've copyedited another article! :-)
I'm thinking of getting the Nothofagus menziesii article to GA, as there has been really good research on Nothofagus species published recently. It's a bit rough right now but it will look good when it enters mainspace. I guess that's my main focus at the moment. Thanks again. Alexeyevitch(talk) 23:22, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- Wow! Thank you for this – it means a whole lot to me. A thousand congratulations on the FA. It truly is a beautiful article. I can't help but smile as I read it: You found a tree that few people know about, and you made its story known.
- As one might expect, I've been doing a lot of copyediting and gnome work. I also wrote an article about Carole Gibbons about a week ago. It's short (I haven't yet learned how to write an article that's better than Start- or C-class), but I am happy with it. PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 10:06, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- You do good work! I, along with others, truly appreciate the effort you put into articles. Much appreciated. :-) I might take a wikibreak after I'm done with N. menziesii and come back to writing longer articles at some point. Keep in touch! Alexeyevitch(talk) 10:47, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Absolutely keep in touch :) and if you ever need a proofreader, I'll be one ping away (plus perhaps a few days of squirrel-chasing). PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 05:52, 10 April 2025 (UTC)

Capitalization of cabinet?
[edit]Why? I've requested at WP:RMTR that these moves be rolled back. Dicklyon (talk) 18:08, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Dicklyon: I didn't think this move would be controversial – when I type "First cabinet of" or "Second cabinet of" into the search bar (even with "cabinet" lowercase), every result I see has "Cabinet" capitalized – but if it is controversial, then the articles should be moved back until consensus is formed one way or the other. PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 19:03, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
- This is way more complicated than I initially realized. I'm starting a move request, but I was definitely wrong to try to do this unilaterally. PrinceTortoise (he/him • poke) 20:42, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
DYK for Carole Gibbons
[edit]On 25 April 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Carole Gibbons, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status.
