Wikipedia:Peer review/Crusading movement/archive3

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Previous peer review

I've listed this article for peer review because several editors have viewed/reviewd this a various levels (GA, ACR, FAC) and this has prompted a lot of flack. It would be great if someone new to the topic could run a fresh pair of eyes over it, offer some objective notes for improvement and a fresh perspective.

It might be best to address the detailed concerns about sourcing before asking for another review. The concerns about the "12th century" section, for example, do not appear to have been addressed. Many of the sentences in that section are unclear: "He had experience of the fighting in Spain so readily applied similar remissions of sin to the combatants there, without the need for a pilgrimage to Jerusalem." What remissions? This concept has not been mentioned yet. Here's another: "The crusaders established polities known as the Latin East, because it was impossible to defend Jerusalem in isolation. Despite this, regular campaigns were required in addition to the capability provided by the military orders. In Spain further expeditions were launched in 1114, 1118, and 1122. Eugenius III developed an equivalence between fighting the Wends, fighting the Muslims in Spain and the Muslims in Syria." Three of these four sentences do not make sense, and none of them fit into a narrative. And this is just a small section. There are many paragraphs that are a series of short sentences, many of which repeat previous thoughts, that should be made more concise and sensical. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:45, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Jonesey95, I was planning to combine sourcing with any comments with the review in one hit. It makes sense to me to do these together. Despite all the noise there hasn't really been a detail objective list of issues in some time. I'll pick up on your comments. Norfolkbigfish (talk) 08:21, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
