Image proposed for delisting.
Proposed replacement. Official campaign portrait of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, taken on 22 August 1944 by Leon Perskie
Reason
Nominating File:FDR 1944 Color Portrait (cropped)(b).jpg for delisting and replacement by File:FDR-1944-Campaign-Portrait (retouched, cropped).jpg, which does not suffer from the former's unappealing yellowish tint and overbrightening. The source of yellow tint is unclear, since the version in the digital collection of the FDR Presidential Library & Museum (on Flickr at [1]) does not have this defect.

Old version. Note the overexposed areas, lack of pixels, and other things.
New version. Note the improved coloration, correction of overexposed areas, and improved pixel count.
Reason
Superseded by the higher-resolution File:JFK Motorcade GettyImages-517330536.jpg which I located. Maybe I need to nominate that for FP separately?

  • ideally, you'd just run this as a "Delist and Replace", and upon closing the replacement would be done. This prevenrs issues - unlikely in this case - where the superior version is actually inferior. D&R for what it's worth. Delist: SD version
Replacement: HD version
Reason
HD version to replace the current SD version. There's noticeable wear on the print, which I think is present in the original but harder to see because of the lack of fine detail. The crop used on the original video has cut off part of the film on all sides.

Original: SD version
ALT 1: Full HD version
ALT 2: 4K version
Reason
The featured version of this film is an SD video that was removed from A Trip Down Market Street back in 2020 and is now used only in San Francisco Ferry Building. I'm including the full HD version as ALT1 since it's the one in use at A Trip Down Market Street, but it's missing a large amount of footage from the beginning of the film. ALT2 is, in my opinion, much better than the others since it's a complete 4K version with much more detail, a less aggressive crop, and no clipped shadows (a helpful benchmark is the plaque ~15 seconds before the end).

Female mallard in flight
Reason
Quite small, subject in shadow, and does not actually show flight feathers as well as some other photos like this one, so it doesn't have much identification value. We have another FP of the same species, though that one does not show the bird in flight (but does show both sexes in one image). We actually have another FP of a male in flight, which is better than this one but not that great either. And there is a fourth mallard FP as well, a female with ducklings.

Portrait of Jimmy Wales
Proposed nom – CSS image crop
Reason
Currently unused in article space. This was somewhat controversial when nominated due to quality. Astonishingly, despite the existence of a great many free photographs of Wales, I'm not really seeing a good candidate for a D&R; this one's OK but not used in favor of a not very good edit. If you see Mr. Wales about, please take a high quality photograph of him.

Delist: This image measures 2,048 × 1,333 pixels. It's slightly cropped as to obscure the fringes of the parchment, which did have the benefit of making a crease less apparent.
Replacement: This image measures 6,246 × 4,116 pixels and has a more neutral white balance. I don't know which is reflective of actuality, it's not a huge difference but it's there.
Reason
The previous version is of much lower resolution and is ever-so-slightly cropped

This version is lacking detail (though it has been overwritten since its nomination), color, and it (horror!) isn't the full picture.
This is the original toning, the full picture (though a crop would be acceptable), and isn't blotchy and lacking detail.
Reason
As explained above, this is a much higher-resolution and more detailed photo.

  • listen, the original one isn't good, but it is adequete and should remain its way. on the other hand, this one is HORRIBLE and the details are hard to pick out. There is no crop so most of the photo is just the outside boundary anyway. No features are good and the quality does not make it qualified in anyway Wcamp9 (talk) 21:13, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
