Wikipedia:Requests for history merge
This page is used for listing requests for history merges or history splitting of pages. For relatively simple cases where history merge is required, the destination page should be tagged with the {{history merge}} template. This page should be used for requesting very complex merges, merges involving more than two pages, history merges of deleted pages, or when the use of the template is otherwise inadequate or where its usage would cause problems.
This page was originally for listing cut-and-paste moves which could not be repaired due to a then-extant technical limitation. The limitation has since been removed, but this page is still available if you find a cut-and-paste move, and are not able to repair it yourself (there is a procedure for doing it, but only administrators can do it, and it is a bit tricky!).
Administrators need to read Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Fixing cut-and-paste moves and Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions.
The procedure
[edit]- If the issue is clear-cut (straight-forward cut-and-paste move(s) to a different title), place a
{{history merge|NAME OF PAGE THE ARTICLE WAS CUT FROM}}
template at the new location of the article which has been moved through cut and pasting, i.e. on the article where the pasting was done. This will place the request in Category:Candidates for history merging to be reviewed. - In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves), please leave a description of the problem under the "Repair requests" section. An administrator will look over the pages and perform whatever tasks are necessary and update the request.
- Tasks that have been completed or do not need further discussion will be removed.

- Not 100% sure, but I believe the page histories of Michael Stevens (Internet personality) and Michael Stevens (YouTuber) should be merged (perhaps just the 2013–2014 history of the former?) It is the same page conceptually as the current Michael Stevens (YouTuber) target (which was originally itself created in September 2015 at the Michael Stevens (educator) target). It just seems odd to have the (Internet personality) redirect have a considerable article history predating the (YouTuber) target? I know this would cause the edit history of the article to have 2 different dates with attempts at creating the page, but I have noticed that the page history of fellow Internet personality Belle Delphine (for example) seems to have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 different "created" attempts in its edit history. So I was wondering if a histmerge would be apt here? Soulbust (talk) 07:18, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- From a WP:PARALLEL perspective it's fine to merge these. However, it doesn't appear to me that the latter used any of the former's authorship, and so from this perspective a history merge is usually contraindicated. I have no issue with another admin merging here but I tend away from it. Izno (talk) 21:24, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- Gotcha. Yeah, sorry, I was reading through some of the text at Wikipedia:History merging and related pages at a time when I was very tired and was getting tripped up as a result, so while I thought WP:PARALLEL could apply I was unsure. I can see your point about it being fine from that perspective and about the former authorship. Thanks for the insight. Soulbust (talk) 02:32, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
