Yesterday I tried to update Aimée de Jongh's Wikipedia page with her latest comprehensive career and bio information. And also with a more recent, professional press photo. Unfortunately, due to a conflict of interest, the update was rejected.
If I send the text to you, would you be willing to review it and update your version of the page? The information I gathered came from a reliable source, the artist's own website https://www.aimeedejongh.com.

'Bordes d'Envalira' is not a village in Andorra. This is supported by local knowledge and the website of the Government of Andorra. Bordes d'Envalira is an unofficial collection of buildings which are part of the Grandvalira ski resort and thus does not suit Wikipedia's notability guidelines (as even Grandvalira does not have an English article).
Furthermore, the only reference in this article, positioned as if to support the idea of Bordes d'Envalira being a village, actually contradicts the article. The reference is from an autobiography which describes the area as solely being a mountain pass on the border of France, rather than a village in Central Andorra as suggested by this article.

For many years, I've wanted to thank you for your careful vigilance of my Wikipedia page (Dawn Eden Goldstein). I'm honored that you took an interest in it. All your edits have been first-rate.
If I might be so bold as to request your intervention on a page about someone dear to my heart, I'd love to see someone update the page for Father Edward Dowling, S.J., using information from my biography of him, Father Ed: The Story of Bill W.'s Spiritual Sponsor (Orbis Books, 2022). David Crumm, writing about Father Ed for Read the Spirit, noted several errors on Dowling's Wikipedia page, which I believe have yet to be corrected--see https://readthespirit.com/explore/dawn-eden-goldsteins-father-ed-lifts-up-the-saint-who-befriended-bill-w-and-helped-to-spread-the-good-news-about-alcoholics-anonymous/. As Crumm notes, my book also contains information that would be of interest for the Wikipedia page on Edwin A. Lahey.
I don't know what Wikipedia's rules are with regard to whether you are permitted to receive promotional materials from subjects of pages, but if it's permitted, I'd be delighted to have a copy of Father Ed sent to you or to someone who can pass it on to you. I've noticed some semi-automated category edits from this account. I guess some categories were changed or something and they were being updated on articles. The problem I'm seeing is that the old/obsolete categories shouldn't have been on the article in the first place. Any chance that you can check that the categories actually apply to the article while updating them? – Reidgreg (talk) 05:06, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear, this isn't your fault; the articles had category problems before your edits. At worst you added a tiny amount of clutter to a trash heap. For my perspective, categories should be for defining characteristics of the subject which are commonly and consistently referred to by the article's sources. Very often I see categories which are trivial or contradictory to the article content, but it's generally a low priority for me to address them. Some examples:
The Hunt (2020 film) is a tricky one as the sources disagree to the genre of the film, to the point of a 45-word 20-source explanatory footnote. Of the 20 sources, only one called it an 'action-comedy' so that category is weakly supported. Other weak or unsupported categories are 'Films based on Animal Farm', 'American splatter films', 'Films about death games', and 'Obscenity controversies in film'.
The Happytime Murders is another one where the edit history is full of unsupported genre and category changes. It had been categorized as an action film and you added English-language to that, but I don't think any source calls it an action film. I removed those and a score of other categories.
Johnny & Clyde had an unsupported 'drama' category to which you added English-language.
@Reidgreg: (Apologies for the delay - I thought I would have more time for an in-depth response these past few days, but evidently I misjudged my time management skills and level of exhaustion.)
I take your point...and I will see if anything jumps out at me as I continue filling out the categories. Though it's going to be a fairly large task yet, so I suspect some things will fall through the cracks no matter how careful I am. Still, I'll keep my eye out for anything I can. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa.05:18, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This unsigned pirate 2a02:c7e:5e7d:e00:a921:9096:3c65:7de8 has been putting dead information on the page Arthur and the Minimoys. He/she thinks that the Weinstein cut is "still available on DVD" just because a copy of it was found in a charity shop. Look, the Weinstein cut has not been renewed on any format due to the closure of The Weinstein Company following the arrest of Harvey Weinstein in 2018. They’re all out of print as they were dated in 2007, 11 years prior as American distributors bought rights to the original uncut version in 2023. A month ago, an another unsigned pirate, could have been the same one, inserted the link to its former version that’s not even accessible anymore, which he/she thinks it is. Hey there, just letting you know I generally haven't been paying too much attention to the surge of category changes you've been making, but it raised my eyebrows when I saw that you'd categorized Jaws 2 as an adventure film. It's not described as such in the lead, nor do I think most if any sources would categorize it as such. I've reverted that and a handful of other changes. I'm not sure whether that was intentional on your part or not, but you might want to slow down a little. DonIago (talk) 13:35, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Doniago: The problem is, often, that I'm picking up on categories that have already been added to the article. Jaws 2, for instance: it was categorized under Category:Sea adventure films and Category:1970s adventure films, both of which I've since removed. So that kind of thing is getting amplified. I catch it when I can (the other day I ran into a Spanish-language film that had been categorized as "English", for some reason), but sometimes things do slip through. Otherwise I try to take a good look at the category tree before proceeding, because sometimes oddities do occur. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa.04:30, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it might be better to look at the genres used in the lead and possibly look for references to genres within the article than to go by categories that are currently applied to articles, though I realize that might create more work. While I think your changes are probably fine in the majority of cases, I saw a few more where the category changes didn't appear to be substantiated by the article text. I'm not trying to admonish you at all; I'm just concerned that what's ultimately happening is the addition of improper categories rather than removal of categories that shouldn't have been there in the first place. DonIago (talk) 05:29, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's okay, but please consider slowing down a bit on this. I'm uncomfortable with the number of reverts I've had to make to your changes, especially since I'm obviously not seeing all of them (I'm not going through your contributions list; these are articles I was already watching). DonIago (talk) 14:02, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Doniago: I'm likely coming to a slowdown point soon anyway - this is a huge project, and I'm trying to get what I can done to get it out of the way. But I think most of the major categories are done.
So, I haven't seen Teen Wolf Too, so I can't really say how much sports is a primary aspect of that film, but I definitely remember basketball being a significant component of the first film. That said, I would question whether it's a "sports film". Aren't those typically films where the sport is a primary driver of the plot? The basketball in the first film is somewhat incidental, IIRC. If Marty Scott is a swimmer or a baseball or soccer player instead, does it change anything in terms of the overall plot?
More to the point though, as always: what do reliable sources say? Do they categorize either of these films as being sports films?
If "basketball films" is a sub-cat of "sports film", but nobody really calls either film a "sports film", then it may be best to remove that as well.
@Doniago: You're not rambling, no - you've hit upon exactly the problem that creeps into these category trees; at what point does a subject (such as sports) become a "primary" driver of the film? And of course, because one cannot see all films in one's life, it can become more difficult to judge if one has not seen the film in question. I'll leave it for now, as untangling it requires more research than I can provide...but there are a couple of other categories I might throw in there, then. (I'm a completist: if it fits under the "sports film" rubric then it should receive the requisite categories.)
Well, Buddy cop is a subgenre of Buddy film, which explicitly states that it's a subgenre of romantic comedy (not necessarily more than affection between people though). So I guess one shouldn't be using "buddy cop" unless they're referring to a comedic film. That said, I think most BC films but possibly not all of them could also be considered action thriller films? However, if there are exceptions, then that complicates matters. I'm not quite sure whether I'm responding to the kernel of your concern though. DonIago (talk) 16:05, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Doniago: You are, though, because that's how Point Break breaks down (no pun intended) into a comedy film. I don't necessarily disagree - "buddy cop" implies comedy to me, as well. In which case the category tree is correct, but perhaps the film is misfiled.
Well, Point Break was categorized as a buddy cop film with no mention of such a dynamic within the body of the article, so I've removed those categories. I'd be okay with it being called a "buddy film" given that the article does discuss the nature of the relationship between the two main characters in those terms. However, "buddy" is kind of a hybrid genre of which comedy is a component, and the "buddy film" category is not a subcat of any comedy genre, so I'd be fine with "buddy" categories being applied. Hope that helps! DonIago (talk) 16:47, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My old username was associated with an abuser, so I've had it changed. Someone in my family years ago tried to surprise me at the publication of my first book by using my account to create a wiki page for me, which was speedy deleted, but I can't remove any of the references to it so it still shares my full legal name publicly and connects it to my Old username. It's why I haven't used wiki for any more edits since. I thought of making a new account but I've had this one for so long I don't want to lose it. I just want to clean it up for a fresh start. Is this possible?
@Codebender Cate: Most of what you request should be possible, though it's at a paygrade a bit higher than mine. I can hide deleted edits, but I'm not sure how to hide an entire deleted page - I would ask over at Administrators' noticeboard for further guidance. As to the profile: even though you've renamed, I'm not certain it's possible to fully disassociate from the old username...again, I'm not sure how easy it would be to hide those edits. It's possible that since the account was compromised, even a long while ago, you might have to start fresh. Another question for the administrators' userboard. (If anyone there takes you to task for asking in the wrong place, you can blame me for sending you there.)

I have a most heinous and troublesome curiosity for information, however due to the limited notion of our time, we are often forced to choose. As such I have forced my self upon a most pragmatic path. As such, I came to the logical conclusion that the wikipedian with the most number of edits would possibly have a large category of horizontal thinking information, ie multidisciplinarianism. I would be most appreciative of having the opportunity to engage with you.
Umm, why did you undo the things I did with my old IP address. You didn't even provide sources for the supposed Goodtimes and Warner VHS tapes of this. 66.164.104.47 (talk) 01:18, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have spotted you a lot around in my watchlist and recent changes, mostly changing categories using AWB. I have access to AWB and would like the contribute more, especially related to categories. Can you suggest some places, techniques and generally where can I help out while using AWB. Some tips and tricks of what you do will also be helpful.
@Bunnypranav: I usually discover the categories that need to be filled in through trial and error...I'll be looking at an article, and I'll look at the categories and notice one that I didn't realize existed. I'll look at it and see if it needs filling out - if it does, I add it to my mental list.
Do you use Wikipedia:PetScan at all? That's how I generate my lists, most of the time. It's quite useful, especially with a little logic. I find it especially helpful when generating by-century lists to work on.
I'm sure there are lists of tips and tricks I could come up with, but honestly the best thing to do, I think, would be to tinker around with it and see what you can come up with via trial and error. That's what I did when I first got started, and it helped me find a rhythm to to sort of thing that works for me.
Thanks for the detailed response. I would love to systematically add categories, either to articles that are eligible (but do not have it), or create new categories and add eligible articles to it. I have heard about PetScan before, any specific way you use it? ~/Bunnypranav:<ping>17:34, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bunnypranav: So basically, with PetScan, you feed in a couple of categories and it spits out (or should spit out) a list of articles that are in both, or all, of them. For instance: feeding it Category:20th-century births, Category:20th-century deaths, and Category:English sportsmen gives you a list of English sportsmen born between 1901 and 2000. The trick is, if you don't give it a depth number, it will only search those first-level categories. So that particular search won't turn up very much, because those top-level categories aren't very full. Add a depth number of "2" or "3" (I usually use "5" to get fairly deep into the category tree) and it will turn up more articles.
This is where the trial and error comes in, I should say, because category trees aren't always intuitive. Which is why, for starters, I recommend looking for a bit before you get started, so that you can see what categories are in the tree. There's a function that allows you to exclude categories from your search, and I find that very useful. (In the search above, for instance, I set it to exclude Category:20th-century English sportsmen. Because that's the category I want to add, and it doesn't help me to have a list of articles that already feature it.)

Not sure where to direct this, but saw your recent edit to Ruth Ann Gaines. Because the category added was at the end of the category list, it appears it automatically deleted the spacing between the categories section and the stub template.
Per WP:STUBSPACING, "Leave two blank lines between the first stub template and whatever precedes it (one blank line leaves the stub category notice butted up against any preceding navigation template; it takes two blank lines in the edited text to produce one blank line in the displayed text)."

Mass created article by Ser Amantio di Nicolao. The link to the Sri Lankan government website is a generic one containing no information, nor way of finding information, about this location. The article is, based on prior experience, most likely based on information from GNS, an unreliable source. The location is clearly within the boundaries of the city of Kandy and there is no obvious village at this location, still less one called Talwatta (local addresses do not mention this name). Fails WP:V, WP:GEOLAND.

Hi User:Ser Amantio di Nicolao! This image [1] seems to be mislabeled. It is actually from Hierakonpolis, dated Naqada IC-IIA (3600-3500 BCE?). Please see (with photograph of the same artifact): Friedman, Renée; Van Neer, Wim; Linseele, Veerle (2011). "THE ELITE PREDYNASTIC CEMETERY AT HIERAKONPOLIS: 2009–2010 UPDATE". EGYPT AT ITS ORIGINS 3 Proceedings of the Third International Conference “Origin of the State. Predynastic and Early Dynastic Egypt”, London, 27th July – 1st August 2008. Leuven, Paris, Walpole, MA: ORIENTALIA LOVANIENSIA ANALECTA 205. pp. 159–161. The Tomb 16 complex. Discovered in 1998–1999 by the team of B. Adams (2002a, 2004: 47–52), Tomb 16 is a large tomb of the Naqada IC–IIA period into which a bricklined tomb of the Naqada IIIA2 period had later been inserted in what now appears to be an act of respectful renovation rather than usurpation (Hendrickx 2008: fig. 5). (...) In all probability, the two famous ceramic masks also originate from this tomb (Fig. 2). Some fragments were found in the tomb fill, although the majority were collected in surface and subsurface levels to the west and especially to the south, where the beard to the smaller mask was recovered in 2010. Other finds from the tomb and its fill include carnelian ring beads, two biconical gold beads, ivory comb fragments, rock crystal blades, three transverse arrowheads and one tanged arrowhead.
I think the labeling was confused with [2] by the source (same type of identification), or the museum got it wrong. The discrepancy was identified here. I will let you handle the renaming and re-labelling of the file on Commons if you're convinced. Best पाटलिपुत्र (Pataliputra)(talk)06:21, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My name is Marta and I am from Spain. I am your age and I am impressed with you. I want to thank you for your contributions. I am a regular reader of Wikipedia, I love it. I would like to be able to talk to you by email, if you are okay with it, because I think you are a person from whom I can learn a lot and also about your way of seeing life. I think it could be very beneficial. 81.47.23.167 (talk) 18:27, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're very kind. I thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to write to you. I am very impressed by your writing and think you have a lot to offer. On the other hand, I'm starting to think that I don't offer much because I've searched and I don't see the option to send an email :-) Can you tell me where, please? Marpe2425 (talk) 09:22, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't see "send email" option. I can see “talk”.Sorry, that seems difficult for me.
I think I have the option to send email activated, and if not, my email is arantzag2024(sign)gmail.com.
As I said, I love everything you've written and I'd like to talk about these issues with you and learn more. Don't feel obligated to write to me, but if you want to, I'll be happy to. Thanks. Marpe2425 (talk) 18:44, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Mass-created article and essentially unsourced since the link to the Sri Lankan government website contains no information about this location, nor gives any obvious way of finding such information on it about this place. The location, which is part of the article title (and thus, if incorrect, fatal to the verifiability of this place) is in the Kotuwegedara neighbourhood of Matale town. There is nowhere in or near this place called Nagolla. Fails WP:V, and even more so WP:GEOLAND.

Mass created article. Link to Sri Lankan govt website contains no information about this site (nor way of finding information site) and almost certainly wasn't consulted in creating this article. Location in the title (which if incorrect is fatal to this article) is in the village of Otolawa. Fails WP:V and even more so WP:GEOLAND.

Mass created article. Effectively unsourced (the cite is to a website that contains no information about this location). The location is really - well, look at the map: it's Katugasthota (or possibly Rathmale). Fails WP:V.

Dear administrator, I'd like to seek help regarding this issue after having reverted three times with the possibility of getting banned. User 97.70.170.85 has been quite disruptive, is the 3RR still applicable in this case? EepTheMeep (talk) 06:06, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The GNIS reference is non-substantive. Does not appear on USGS topos, the GNIS entry was pulled from an Alexandria Drafting Co. map, which has been found to contain questionable entries in the past. Nothing in the recent Arcadia Press history of the county. Newspapers.com searching is difficult due to the commonness of this word as a name, but I'm not finding anything relevant here. " A history of Northampton and Accomack Counties"'s index has Jordan as a surname as a single reference to "Jordan's plantation". No evidence this meets WP:GEOLAND or WP:GNG.

Nothing in the index of Virginia's Eastern Shore;: A history of Northampton and Accomack Counties for this, and no mention in the recent Arcadia Press history of Accomack County. The newspapers.com references are such as this, which has Locksville in quotation marks, almost seeming to imply that this wasn't a readily identifiable place name. I'm not finding any substantive coverage in sources that would suggest WP:GEOLAND or WP:GNG are met here.

Hello there, 'tis the season again, believe it or not, the years pass so quickly now! A big thank you for all of your contributions to Wikipedia in 2024! Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas and here's to a happy and productive 2025! ♦ Dr. Blofeld08:51, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Category question: We have Category:Annunciation in Christian art, but not Category:Annunciation, nor Category:Annunciation in music. I put a new little song in the former, but many don't see music as part of the arts. I don't want to have add cats for "Gabriel" and "Mary, mother of Jesus" to related music articles, - plain "Annunciation", which should imply those and also "Gospel of Luke", would be better, related to Annunciation. - New pics from Paris, a story about a great soprano, and still plenty of work ahead around the seven cantatas Bach composed for the 1724 season. Keep watching "music" or my talk, I may not have time for individual greetings. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:48, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No significant coverage of the settlement in independent reliable sources to establish notability. Found social media for people with this last name. Article was created in 2008.

Hello! regarding this diff, would you mind explaining to me how categories work in this case? If there is a more specific category a more general one should not be used? So for exemple when would you use the Category 21st-century Japanese women? The page also states that people can also be "in diffusing subcategories of the parent." So i am confused about your removal. Cinemaandpolitics (talk) 14:44, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cinemaandpolitics: "If there is a more specific category a more general one should not be used?" - yes, that's it in a nutshell. There can be exceptions, but they are rare (and should be noted as non-diffusing on the category page, though they are not always); generally speaking, an attempt should be made to diffuse categories as much as possible. See this for more information.
To your other question: Category:21st-century Japanese women would be used on an article about a Japanese woman who was active in the 21st century, but who otherwise cannot be placed in a subcategory. I know it and similar categories were used in the past when there were no "sportswomen" categories.
well yea, the definition itself on the category page is misleading. Why does it say that pages can be find in diffused subcategories as well, if they should not be in both according to guidelines? It's contradictory. Cinemaandpolitics (talk) 19:45, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have a request that’s probably not as bizarre as I think it is. But I can’t really say more about it than this because it’s about someone who wants to remain anonymous. Can you reach out to me on Instagram at @ memoryscreens? Thank you and merry Christmas! 2A02:A020:C9:FEFA:89E8:36B8:FDA0:B24E (talk) 22:00, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid I cannot find the "email this user" link anywhere. I have read the page about emailing Wikipedia users and the only thing that looks like it could have tripped me up is the part about allowing others to email me, which I have allowed. I could try shooting emails to different gmail accounts that I suspect could be owned by you, but that's spammy and weird. Maxisthefourth (talk) 23:35, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ser Amantio di Nicolao - there was a page that you made using AWB in 2013 - Computer Modelling Group - that is now put up for deletion review on a notability basis. There is a lack of sources besides the company's own website, and the only 3rd party information source is a handful of lines talking about a CEO change in Reuters. Just giving you a heads up!
