If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

[edit]- Emperor of India → Emperor of British India (move · discuss) – The current article's name refers to Emperors of present-day India, but the content is about Emperors of British India, so this article should be renamed for clarity to readers. WikiEditPS (talk) 07:15, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- That's not going to be uncontroversial. Would similar moves be required on the similarly defunct Emperor of Russia, Emperor of Central Africa, Emperor of Ethiopia, et al.? Moscow Mule (talk) 11:00, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- MPEG-1 Audio Layer II → MP2 (move · discuss) – 1) Better known with the short abbreviation (similar to MP3 article). So far as I see there is nothing else with the name 'MP2' in this format. 2) On Talk:MPEG-1 Audio Layer II#Rename to avoid confusion with specific versions there have already been two previous instances of support to have it renamed to 'MP2' and I think it is not controversial. - @Shamefurb A Pageview Analysis shows that MPEG-2 gets more views than MPEG-1 Audio Layer II and both are currently listed on the disamb page MP2. I think this should go to a full discussion. TarnishedPathtalk 14:11, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- As someone with knowledge about this topic, I can confirm that MPEG-2 ≠ MP2. It is only listed on that page because someone may confuse the naming: MPEG-2 is not called or referred to as 'MP2' in any way or form, it is a separate entity. Shamefurb (talk) 20:42, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
