Please remember when proposing an article for deletion via afd, prod, or speedy. that it is required to use an informative edit summary saying so--it makes it easier for editors and administrators to find and work with them. And though not strictly required, it is considered polite to notify the author--there is supposed to be a bot, but it works very erratically.DGG (talk) 21:03, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok, I will do. But have been notifying the author by copy-pasting the code on the template in his talk page.[reply]
large scale vandalism n misinformation is seen in articals related to indian defence forces/systems with all the misinformations given with referances from pakistan based news networks(how can information from pakistani channels about indian artical be taken as neutral n correct when it sounds totally anti-indian?)

Could you give me some examples? Also, neutrality is a very hard thing to attain. Try making it neutral by removing the biased parts and rewriting them from scratch. ManishEarthTalk • Stalk16:31, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
examples of such articals are DRDO, Arju(tank), Integrated Guided Missile Development Program

WikiProject India Newsletter, Volume IV, Issue 1 – June 2009
Iravan, the son of Arjuna, is now our 85thgood article. How do we know this? Since last year, more processes have been automated, increasing productivity. Article alerts update the project with what's happening to India-related articles, from copyright violations to featured article candidates.
Currently, 10,613 Indian articles need images. Please improve these pages, especially if you enjoy photography! We look forward to more contributions from you. To get started, go to the noticeboard. »
From the editors…
The last newsletter was written a year ago. In June 2008, Indian Premier League was "hot" on Wikipedia, but the article about this year's IPL has attracted 477 editors, or 53% more than the previous year! Even the number of articles in the scope of our project jumped by a whopping 18,500+ articles in an year. The 3.2-year-old India quiz continues to attract old and new Wikipedians, so join in the fun!
Wikipedians are organizing a meetup in Bangalore on July 4 or 5. If you are interested, head over to the page and add your name! Topics of discussion include Indian language editions of Wikipedia and Wikimedia India.
"While this issue has been resolved, one asks the question – what happens when there is a conflict of opinions? What about a Wikipedia entry on India and Pakistan, or the LTTE and the Tamils? Who can edit? Will the information be true?" writes B. Narasimhan of MiD DAY as deeper implications of the Scientology arbitration case,1 reminding us of the core principles of verifiability and the neutral point of view.

It is finished, but unfortunately I haven't had the time to finalize it. You may still use it. Just type importScript(User:Manishearth/orphantabs.js) in your monobook.js page, and purge the cache. ManishEarthTalk • Stalk13:41, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Go to [Special:Mypage/monobook.js|your monobook js page], add the text importScript('User:Manishearth/orphantabs.js')
Then purge your cache. Finally, click the de-orphan tab which will have appeared next to edit, history, talk buttons, and type the name of the page you want to de-orphan. It willautomatically open some pages, parse them, and finally de-orphan the page. ManishEarthTalk • Stalk08:46, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Though page blanking is usually vandalism and needs to be reverted, it is worth looking first at the page history, because quite often the author has blanked his own page, as with Islamic marketing just now. In those cases the best thing is to tag it {{db-author}}. It can be confusing for an author who realises his page is inappropriate and blanks it, if his page is at once restored and he is accused of vandalism for the blanking and told it was unconstructive. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 13:25, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that your user subpage at User:Manishearth may not meet Wikipedia's user page guideline because it spoofs elements of the MediaWiki interface, more specifically the "new messages" bar. If you believe that your userpage does not violate our guidelines, please leave a note here and we can discuss it. As an alternative, you may add {{Db-userreq}} to the top of the page in question and an administrator will delete it, or you can simply edit the page so that it meets Wikipedia's userpage guidelines. Thank you. Draftydoor (talk) 11:37, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hiya Manishearth, I just wanted to let you know that I've been using your sidebar translate script for a few months now, and I like having it. It might be useful to submit it as a gadget, however you actually do that, since it seems to be a good general purpose, low maintenance, script. Thank you for your efforts! — V = I * R (Talk • Contribs) 20:11, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've made some changes so that I can submit the script, so please remove all of the imports for the language scripts and replace with importScript('User:Manishearth/sidebartranslinks.js'); Thx ManishEarthTalk • Stalk03:08, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - FYI probably just a mis-click - but this one should definitely have been blanked as an attack. Thanks for your hard work patrolling. 707:11, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also - you just posted the warning to their user page instead of their talk page. Can I suggest that you db-author that page because the person who is being attacked really shouldn't have her name shown there. I've already given the author a LEVEL4IM warning. Thanks. 707:14, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.. I haven't been patrolling for a few months, so im a bit rusty.
No problem - looks like you are already using Huggle - but you CSD'd this one manually. You may want to try WP:TWINKLE which automates some of the CSD tagging, author notification, and marking page patrolled steps. Would you mind if I db-author that userpage for you? 707:20, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there Manishearth. Thanks for your work, just letting you know that whenan author of a page blanks the page, it can be taken as a deletion request under CSD G7 , so it's a better idea to add {{Db-g7}} to the page rather than revert the user (especially if the page was previously nominated for deletion, as with Knascar knowledge). Best, - Kingpin13 (talk) 08:57, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I wasn't trying to vandalise pages - I was just removing text that was inserted onto tour pages by another user, that were biased towards one artist (David Bowie)

While you've not done anything incorrectly so far, there is a bit of concern that you might not be checking everything, or rushing through the requests. Please make sure you check everything, take your time over the request - there is no time limit.
PS: that jimbo thing is really annoying when trying to write a message.
Aah yes. PhantomSteve also raised concerns over this. Well, I've been handling those requests quickly because they are empty (No contribs, &c). I use chrome, and it can handle multiple tabs without slowing (I've seen it handle 40 without complaining). I hold the Ctrl key and click on all of the green links (Ctrl-click opens in a new tab). Then I just rotate the tabs (which are usually devoid of any contribs), and close the empty ones. If there are any windows with entries (contribs, blocks, aflogs, &c), I keep them open and investigate the entries. I also investigate the similar usernames' contribs (The ones reached via the "Creation" blue link--If similar usernames are listed below, I doubt that I can handle the request, as i don't have acctcreator yet). If I do recieve a request which has contribs for the IP, I first check the WHOIS for the static/nonstatic status, and I crtl-click all recent contribs (Same process). ManishEarth, you are not an OS and you really should not be soliciting OS on-wiki as it leaves more traces of what might end up being oversighted or suppressed. Some of the information can be suppressed but some of it has been carried through further revisions and would be more complex to handle. delirious & lost ☯ ~hugs~07:36, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I did try to make it as vague as possible. Anyways, if it is oversighted, the traces won't matter, as they will point to hidden stuff. Someone who sees the traces will think "Hmm, his <something> was revealed, but I can't find where it is". Knowing that something was shown is not a breach of the privacy policy, if you can't find it. ManishEarthTalk • Stalk15:04, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
First off, leaving traces of something being OSed invites the curious to dig deeper and look elsewhere (Wikipedia mirror sites) to see if they can get the info, which is rather counter-productive to the purpose of OS. Emailing User:Oversight and #wikimedia-oversightsconnect exist for communications to stay off-wiki as much as possible. Second, if you were to review his user space you would see that his name is not a secret. Though it is not out in the open with neon lights it is publicly available by his making/keeping it so. That means it does not in the strictest sense meet criteria 1 of WP:OVER, though final decision rests with an oversighter and not either of us. delirious & lost ☯ ~hugs~18:14, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw a response that gave on the mailing list and thought i would give you a friendly reminder that requests for accounts do come via email on occasion. I don't think there have been any since you joined ACC until this one, which was lacking a requested user name. Normally we would reply to the email asking for a user name and handle the request via email. Some people can't use the form for a variety of reasons and that is one reason why we still have a mailing list. I've done a few this way, which is why my accounts created total is greater than my !count shows in the ACC channel. delirious & lost ☯ ~hugs~07:36, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You deferred an ACC request to Checkuers but as you haven't left any comments about emailing the CU list I wanted to check that you had done so. The request has been sitting there for a while and I thought I'd better follow up. Regards -- Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 21:48, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No I didn't email to CUs. At IRC, I was told that one should wait a few days for a CU request and then notify a CU if the request is still there. It seems that User:7 has pinged the CUs. Thanks for the notification, ManishEarthTalk • Stalk18:13, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:40, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Clever :-) It contains an odd comment on society though. In the 80's it seemed that nuclear war was inevitable and would happen Real Soon Now. Now it seems like the least likely extinction event. I just wanted to clarify one thing. There is a source that claims the complete merger of the two airlines to take into effect on January 29. But can we claim it to be true? Because this is the only site that claims the same and I found no other media (The Hindu, NDTV, DNA, etc) with the same news. Why so serious?Talk to me15:51, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Wikipedia is considered reliable by many people (except teachers). So, we shouldn't let any unverified information get through, otherwise those people will be sure about something that we feel iffy about. For example (a bit too exaggerated), someone might put an edit "It is very safe to drink concentrated Sulfuric Acid" and quote some blog. That's why its safer to only allow verifiable sources through. AGF applies to editors, not sources. ManishEarthTalk • Stalk16:03, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, talk pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at User talk:99.169.250.133, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Srobak (talk) 15:23, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"deleting or editing". This would include restoring content which was removed by the user associated with the talk page. You can read more about this at WP:TPO and the 2nd section of WP:OWNTALK. Thanks. Srobak (talk) 05:21, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was getting help from you on IRC (this was my first time using IRC) and you just left. I understand you guys are busy but why can't you give a newb a chance! I was asking for help in editing the following page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florian_Müller
I explain on its talk page what needs to be done. I was chatting with you on IRC and I think you did try to add the redirect in question but the one you added was also wrong. This shows you didn't actually read the post on the talk page (if you had you not have assumed the redirect was to ...Maller").
This is all just in my humble opinion (and thus the following caps below are for clarity (they are not shouting))
A redirect (which i discuss in detail on the talk page in question) such as the following should be added:
One reason I was slow on IRC is that I can't just "copy paste", the browser escapes the text and it then no longer represents what you need to see in order to add the correction. So I have to "re-assemble" the url in two pastes.
Sorry about leaving at IRC, my Internet conked out and went into a coma. When I saw the link on IrC, I assumed that free node had jumbled up the letters. (it does that sometimes). Anyways, I added the redirect as per your request. Happy editing, ManishEarthTalk • Stalk09:55, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now THAT is pretty cool. The little gluons are cute. Probably even nuclear physicists have never seen such a thing, even though their diagrams show it. How much work would it be to add the reverse process (just as valid) that has the pion go back from neutron to proton, after going from proton to neutron? I think of pions as ping-pong balls going back and forth, after all. The reverse should just be time re-reversed, like running your animation on tape through a player, backwards. There could be a time gap between cycles, and a note that the diagrams show a neutral pion going from neutron to proton, also-- you've just chosen to show the one direction, but the diagram can be seen as showing it equally going backwards in the other direction (the pion doesn't clearly go either way--- the diagram validly shows it going either way, and it does go both ways). SBHarris06:01, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... I could do one of two things:
Reverse the animation, and splice the two together
Make the reverse animation happen with different colors.
The first one would probably be easier (Splicing is easy, not so sure about reversing). The second one would take some time, but might look better. I'll try the first one and see if it looks too similar.
P.S. The gluons thank you for the compliments. ManishEarthTalk • Stalk11:06, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I made it double back. Now it bounces back and forth. I didn't add the time gap, as I first want your opinion on the double backing. I've also added a similar image to Color charge. I'm thinking of creating an anim of the rubberband mechanism in Color confinement. (WHen I first saw the page, I didn't understand the diagram at all) Basically, I'll have two quarks bound together with a loop that flashes various colors. The quarks can constantly change color, too. The entire thing will stretch, until BOOM... we have two new quarks. How about it? ManishEarthTalk • Stalk12:02, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Manish"Earth",
I can't thank you enough for adopting me. I've decide to make a new page for Wikipedia: "LocoRoco Hi!". I wanted to ask for some advice and also wanted some advice about Userboxes/Creating new Userboxes and tips on how to make my home page look really cool.
Thank you!

Well, it seems that Locoroco Hi! is a notable game. It wouldn't be too good an idea to create the article in the article mainspace as of yet as it will be deleted. We've got strict policies on notability, etc., and the title looks like an edit test, even though it isn't... At first, even I thought that it was a test sorta thing, until I realized that LocoRoco hi! is a notable topic. Here's a suggestion: If you are going to add material to Wikipedia, it would be better if you made your initial edits in a sandbox (WIkipedia sandbox or my sandbox). I would recommend using my sandbox (Just edit it and blank everything except the first line). That way, you can write what you want, without others reverting it (The main sandbox is used by everyone at a time, so it's not a good place to build stuff). Also, it's easier for me to help.
Because I have noticed you commenting at the current RfC regarding Pending Changes, I wanted to invite you to the IRC channel for pending changes. If you are not customarily logged into the IRC, use this link. This under used resource can allow real time discussion at this particularly timely venture of the trial known as Pending Changes. Even if nothing can come from debating points there, at least this invitation is delivered with the best of intentions and good faith expectations. Kind regards. Hello, I have updated the Project Page you are mentoring on with usernames for all the students in your Area of Study. Please send them a message introducing yourself and let them know you are there to help.
With you on the Jason Statham discussion page, those newer links do look more reliable.
The sources look far better than the ones already listed because actual interviews with Jason himself written by people who have spent time hanging out with the man and pictures of their day together asking him questions all day long hold more reliability than an article written by people who have never met him. So im all for changing it to 1972.
As you can see there are just far more sources that support the 1972 date and hardly any that support the 1967 date.
All fan sites, biographys also all have the 1972 date.
There is just to much "if's" and "but's" and not enough reliable sources to support the 1967 date.
Plus Jason has no grey hairs on his facial hair or hair thats left on his head, surley if he was born in 67 he would be greying by now! lol
I'd love to put this one to rest once and for all. The problem is that you/me/anybody can write a million words and nobody can be sure what is actually correct. The 1972 date is stated more because it's been reprinted more. FACT, Jason was born in 1967. This is an easy fact to verify simply by contacting the Amateur Swimming Association and asking them about what years Jason competed for Great Britain/England. Contacting them will also lead you to the fact (verifiable within the wiki itself by looking at the Fina World Swimming Championships page) that Jason never competed at the World Championships in 1992 for the very simple reason that there weren't any championships in that year. Now, there is a link within the biography page that has a quote from Jason himself stating that "...just about everything else, World Championships" as proof that he competed at this level. Interesting isn't it ? Interesting that people actually lie about what they've achieved to make themselves look better?! This is where the credibilty of the wiki biography pages breaks down, nothing can be proven unless it's dealt with under oath in a court of law as even the man himself cannot be trusted to tell thetruth. Let's now get round to the "Grammar School" debate. Great Yarmouth DID have a grammar school, which changed its name and status in 1981 to Great Yarmouth High School (again, this is verifiable within the wiki itself by looking up "Great Yarmouth Grammar School "..The former Great Yarmouth Grammar School, which was founded in 1551, became the comprehensive Great Yarmouth High School in September 1981 "). He was born in Derbyshire and his parents are Barry and Eileen and his brother is Lee. N.B. He wasn't born 12th September, it's 26th July! The funny thing is, even if I got a copy of his birth certificate showing all of this information, somebody would still say "yes...but it's not the same person" , so the only real proof would be to get a photo of his passport...not going to happen though is it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.18.210.40 (talk) 22:17, 23 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not getting into this debate. You've completely destroyed your credibility by abusing multiple accounts. And, surprisingly, yes, it would take a passport to verify it. That's because this is an encyclopaedia, not a random blog. We try our hardest to verify our content. The rest of the editors of that page have more compelling links and reasons for supporting the date than yours. Plus, the whole of the community trusts them more (Maybe because they're not sockpuppeteers? Hmm?). If you want to push the new date, you're welcome to do so, but I'm extricating myself from debating on the dates. ManishEarthTalk • Stalk07:32, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello from MSU, again thanks for being our mentor through this process. I feel like we are going to need some help along the way because I have never edited Wikipedia at all. Hopefully you are interested in the broadband "problem" and we are looking forward to talking about it.
Daxter21 (talk) 03:52, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Editing Wikipedia isn't as hard as it sounds, and it's actually quite fun! We do have a rather large set of policies, but most of them won't come across your path. If you're unsure if an edit is acceptable or not, feel free to run it by me or any other ambassador (you can contact them at #wikipedia-en-classroomconnect).
I have created the Broadband.gov page, and tagged it along with the talk page. We might have some trouble with page deletion, as the title is a website (Most website titled articles are spam, so they get deleted quite easily), but it won't be too serious if it gets deleted. You can start adding content to it if you want. Alternatively, you can incubate the article in a sandbox/incubator (like this one), and publish it later. I'd advise using an incubator while the article is in its infancy, to avoid deletion, etc. Let me know how you want to start off.
Scratch that, Professor Obar wants you to make the page in a sandbox or something similar and move it to the mainspace yourselves. I'm explaining the rest in an email. ManishEarthTalk • Stalk11:59, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students and make sure these things are taken care of (especially for classes that aren't working with mentors):
Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.
And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.
I deleted this page but restored it when I saw that you are involved in the ambassador program. Please add independent references, evidence of notability, and some context (eg. when it says "around the country", what country is being referred to? Deb (talk) 15:30, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Got a message about an hour ago from Professor Obar of the Media and Telecommunication Policy project and I think it is viewed best in full:
Can you please communicate to the online mentors that I DO NOT want them moving student material into the main space for them. This is a big problem. I have noticed that this has happened with a number of the projects already, for example, in the broadband.gov article and the media cross-ownership article. We need the students to be doing this on their own, of course so they can learn how to do it, and also so that I can grade what they've done. How am I supposed to follow student submissions if the data is associated with online mentors? A BIG PROBLEM ALREADY... please help me with this. None of you responded to my post about this on the discussion page. This is about to get out of hand. Jaobar (talk) 05:27, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
With that, of course, please only give instructions on how to move, don't do it for them. Please only let them know what to do and let them do it themselves. If they run into problems, provide further instructions. Do not it for them. This seems to be making a mess of Prof. Obar's grading system and I would like to avoid that. Thanks. - Neutralhomer • Talk • Coor. Online Amb'dor • 06:09, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that.... I created the page because the users weren't auto confirmed, and I wanted to add the editnotices. These will safeguard the page from deletion. Anyways, I'll make sure that they do the rest themselves. ManishEarthTalk • Stalk10:40, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This is the third issue of the Wikipedia Ambassador Program Newsletter, with details about what's going on right now and where help is needed.
Where the courses are - A brief summary of how each of the 31 Public Policy Initiative courses are faring so far in the Spring 2011 term, as of 9-11 March. Feel free to add more detail.
Tracking students' articles - Make sure students' articles are tagged with {{WAP assignment}} on the talk pages, and have the newly improved Article Feedback Tool active.
Online Ambassadors logistics - If you don't have a Wikipedia Ambassador sweatshirt, now's your chance to get one! (Also, some other more mundane, but important, details.)
Steering committee preparing proposals - Look for discussions about two major proposals about the future ambassador program soon: the "Regional Ambassador" role, and elections for a new committee.
Hello, Manishearth. Please check your email; you've got mail! It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template.
I have read your email, and will get started on the mentee's works. I apologise if I am not frequent enough. My ISP pulls the plug quite frequently. Yes Michael? •Talk10:33, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! As a mentor, it's not mandatory for you to be there every moment, just make sure to check on them every now and then. I'll also be there, just in case you're not available. Good luck! ManishEarthTalk • Stalk11:57, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia Ambassador Program Newsletter: 22 April 2011
India pilot being organized now - Plans are currently underway for a pilot expansion of the Wikipedia Ambassador Program – in India! Hisham Mundol and other Wikimedia staff have begun recruiting Campus Ambassador candidates for Pune.
Document DYK, peer review and other milestone at the trophy case - If students you are working with (or any others you notice) are doing work that makes to DYK, is nominated for Good Article status, or is just solid content worth marking, then please help us document the students' success at the trophy case.
Changes to mailing list - A new low-volume mailing list, [Ambassador-announce-l], is being created. It will be reserved for key announcements and news, which we'd like all ambassadors to be subscribed to.
If possible, would you mind nominating the Broadband.gov article for DYK? Our class created the article from scratch, and I think it's turning into something pretty decent. Certainly it needs a lot more work, but it's off to decent start. Jaobar (talk) 06:34, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! Their article looks ready (not complete, but ready). Just one thing. I'll need to know what you want your hook to be. A "hook" is basically the second half of a "Did you know.." sentence. For example: (Did you know...) "that a pencil sharpener "is a device for sharpening a pencil's point by shaving the end of the pencil?" See Template:Did_you_know#Current_hooks for more examples, and see T:TDYK for the exact criteria on DYK's. I would suggest something along the lines of "...that the National Broadband Plan is made transparent through it's website, Broadband.gov ?" (This one isn't that good, but I think the students can improve on it or just write another from scratch).
The students and I have been somewhat pre-occupied with finals week. Personally, I think the hook you came up with works well. Transparency in government is a pretty big thing these days and I think it frames the article well. I say just nominate it. I'll ask the students. Jaobar (talk) 15:35, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The hook you listed seems good to me. Sorry about not noticing the messages on the talk page. I was apparently expecting more messages back and forth on our user talk pages, and not the sandbox talk page. My bad. Schill76 (talk) 17:59, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Actually it's rather my fault that I assumed that you would just know that the talk page is the place for discussion. It didn't occur to me that you might not have been introduced to talk pages (Or, even if you had, you might not have thought them to be of any consequence). In fact, I learned about talk pages after half a year at Wikipedia . About the hook: I'll nominate it as soon as I get a confirmation from the other two students or Professor Obar. Even though it's been quiet on-wiki, the Wikipedia Ambassador Program has been busy over the last few months getting ready for the next term. We're heading toward over 80 classes in the US, across all disciplines. You'll see courses start popping up here, and this time we want to match one or more Online Ambassadors to each class based on interest or expertise in the subject matter. If you see a class that you're interested, please contact the professor and/or me; the sooner the Ambassadors and professors get in communication, the better things go. Look for more in the coming weeks about next term.
In the meantime, with a little help I've identified all the articles students did significant work on in the last term. Many of the articles have never been assessed, or have ratings that are out of date from before the students improved them. Please help assess them! Pick a class, or just a few articles, and give them a rating (and add a relevant WikiProject banner if there isn't one), and then update the list of articles.
Once we have updated assessments for all these articles, we can get a better idea of how quality varied from course to course, and which approaches to running Wikipedia assignments and managing courses are most effective.
Hi, this is Jobin, a new wikipedia user. I came to understand that you have an interest in Computer and related topics. I am working on a few articles related to Programming in C. Therefore, I kindly request you to help me on these topics
Unfortunately, I don't have much experience programming in C. I'm still a student, and programming is a side hobby for me. So, I have never had to use C. (I've done some rudimentary programming in C++, but that's it).. I'd be happy to help you with stylistic problems pertaining to writing the articles (What sections should I make? Should so-and-so be included here? etc.), but, I cannot help you with the content itself.
If you want, you can ask people from these categories for help:
When leaving a message on a talk page, please append it to the end of the talk page. Or you can just use the "new section" button on the top of the page, which makes it a whole lot easier.
You might want to check on your signature, it has your name and date twice, with the username linked once, and unlinked once. Check your preferences, signature section on the main tab. Also, make sure you are using ~~~~ to sign and not something else.
Thanks a lot Manish, that was a lot of help. Yes, sure I would like you to help me in those aspects, that is, which sections should I make, what additions can I do to those pages. Please continue to visit these pages and give your valuable suggestions. Your valuable guidance is always Welcome!!! And yes, I knew the problem with my signature but didn't know how to fix it. Thanks a lot, I'll try it.
