Some advice on your edits
[edit]Thanks for your contributions and enthusiasm! It's great to see.
I want to let you know I had to flag a number of images you had uploaded to Commons for deletion. The reason is that they are a copyright violation. Any images you add to the platform need to be under an open license. You can read more at Commons Licensing, but the gist is, just because an image is out on the internet does not mean it is available for us to use. It's also not OK to upload an image you don't own, but tick the box saying you do own it. If you didn't take the photo yourself with a camera, you almost certainly don't own it.
Sometimes album artwork is uploaded to Wikipedia itself (not commons) under a fair-use rationale, but this is a different process to the normal way of uploading photos. To re-upload them under fair use, go to the File Upload Wizard and choose "Upload a non-free file". Fair use is likely to apply to album artwork, but not to photos of the artist.
I've had a look at your drafts for Lil Darkie and Cleffy and notability is the big problem:
- Firstly, Cleffy simply does not appear to be notable enough for a Wikipedia article. This may be an example of an article being written WP:TOOSOON.
- For the Lil Darkie article, again, notability is really marginal. Establishing notability requires significant coverage in multiple reliable sources. The Countere magazine article is one good source for establishing notability, but we really need two more of a similar calibre. They need to be in-depth and published by someone independent of the artist. If you can find some more detailed recent coverage, notability can probably be established.
The Lil Darkie article does still have a lot of style problems though:
- There are a lot of quotes from interviews. I recommend deleting all of them.
- The article has a lot of what we call original research. Everything in an article, particularly about a living person, needs to be referenced to a reliable source. It is really important that the sources basically directly say what you have put in the article (though be careful not to plagiarise). If you are relying on your own knowledge, or for the reader to read multiple sources and "put two and two together" to reach a conclusion, that is original research and won't be accepted.
- More inline citations. If you're looking for a rule of thumb, every sentence in the article, no matter how trivial, should be followed by a citation to a source.
- Quoting song lyrics is usually not considered encyclopedic, and should be avoided. I recommend deleting all of them.
- The discography section is formatted incorrectly. You probably need to take a look at other articles for musicians and see how they've formatted their discographies there.
You're on the right track here, so I hope you stick around and keep editing. A good place to start would be finding existing articles on topics you find interesting and making constructive edits to those, so you can get a feel for what a good article looks like.
Happy editing! David Palmer//cloventt (talk) 01:37, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! I'll take any advice I can get. I'll double check everything moving forward! Kyelerw1 (talk) 06:56, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
