Notification about knight of faith

Just wanted to let you know that an editor contested this WP:BLAR. I think BLAR'ing was the right call and the edit summary the reverter used misleadingly claimed the BLAR was "vandalism", but I wasn't comfortable about bringing this all the way back to a redirect because I felt I was missing some context, behind a potential WP:GOCE task that this article seems to have been affected by, and wanted to send a secondary message here to inform you that this occurred. The BLAR reversion was done manually so I don't think a notification was sent when it happened on the 10th, but I could be wrong. Cheers! Utopes (talk / cont) 03:29, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Garff has it on pages 261–263. Simply going by how many more pages there are in the index for at least two "knight of faith" sub-entries, Hanson 2017 seems a good bet as a source. Hey! IUP again, Doktoro. It isn't half getting around at the moment. Although they do appear to have let some phenomenal cat from Harvard write this book.

    Uncle G (talk) 07:39, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    • Hanson, Jeffrey (2017). Kierkegaard and the Life of Faith: The Aesthetic, the Ethical, and the Religious in Fear and Trembling. Indiana Series in the Philosophy of Religion. Indiana University Press. ISBN 9780253025029.

You and Utopes owe me for protecting you from more of 11614soup's long original analysis rambles about Kierkegaard, at Four Upbuilding Discourses, 1843 (AfD discussion). I picked up a Kierkegaard commentary, but I think that the 5 second rule applies. Uncle G (talk) 04:09, 18 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

      • That was a fine piece of work, Uncle. Are you on payroll yet? With our $50 million dedicated to diversity, surely you can have a crumb of that pie for working on these underdeveloped articles. Note to reader: humor involved. Drmies (talk) 15:08, 18 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for acting as closer in this discussion. I note that the close is incomplete. Please see WP:RMCI, specifically WP:THREEOUTCOMES, and the step-by-step closing procedure. 162 etc. (talk) 17:11, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

GNIS "unincorporated community" bilgewater, bellywash, and bosh

It is important to know that this is not Jay City, Indiana, Doktoro, but more properly the bridge over the Wabash that separates it from the better documented New Corydon, Indiana. Visibly, there is not a city on this bridge.

It's the little things, Doktoro.

It is good to see you getting involved in the long tail of geographic lies that infest our encyclopaedia, Doktoro, even if I suspect that you are only here because you are scanning the reference work for dirty pictures.

However, I do think that your inestimable skills are better served approving the onion railway submission here at articles for creation so that people can redirect some of this litany of hokum, hogwash, and horse feathers to it. I'll read chapter 5 of the Arcadia Book on Clark County.

I just have a few not-in-the-Hendricks-county-history false "communities" in Jefferson County, Indiana left to triage.

Uncle G (talk) 11:42, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • I know you're using me as an intermediary to clear your tracks (get it), but everyone can tell this is you: the sfn stuff (OK, I did that too, but just once or twice], the Flickr linkdump, the Further reading section--it's obvious. Thanks for the instructions too, very kind. Have fun with Clark County: I'll look it up after I get my car serviced at Dick's Garage. Drmies (talk) 15:49, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    • I couldn't get that garage for you, Doktoro. Not even its own WWW site claims that that is where it is, ironically. But it does seem that there's a little to write about three short roads forming a 110 by 130 metres (120 by 140 yd) rectangle in the middle of fields.

Mangoe would have been all over Melham, South Dakota, but I got there first. That one was harder. I am convinced that its coördinates are wrong, since every source that I have has it on the Great Northern Railway which is not where its coördinates lead, but unhelpfully (and the reason that Mangoe would have really enjoyed that one) there is (fortunately, verifiably) nothing remaining there, it being literally a pin in the middle of an open field, and it is not on any 20th century map at all since 1953.

This is why you get the interesting AFC work like onion railroads written up by journalists in IUP books, Doktoro. There is such a long tail here.

      Uncle G (talk) 21:24, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This is popular culture, Doktoro; Shalimov 1981, p. 24 tells me so. We can trust it to not be propaganda, right?

Uncle G (talk) 00:35, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome! Haha you found a name that I had found also, and it gave me a chuckle last night: click on Ters. Drmies (talk) 00:36, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Onion Belt

Where did The Onion Belt go/come from? Is there also a talk page? Is this revision anything to do with it? Lithopsian (talk) 16:40, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the country's flag was red.

February music

story · music · places

Happy Valentine's Day! On the main page Edith Mathis, who portrayed young women by Mozart, the video of a 1993 interview has videos of her performances, - yesterday's story, and today's is related to that Valentin. - I saw my brother on stage, pictured in places, with food and flowers, - sharing with you! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:51, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I point at a composer today, as the main page does. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:36, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Penis saint … or geography of the Kyrgyz Republic ?

I'm thinking this needs protection. Also see [1]. Meat or sock puppetry I think. Doug Weller talk 10:42, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Is Afriforum still on your watchlist?

Doug Weller talk 18:32, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Cabins!

This would have been within your bailiwick, Doktoro, as the GNIS mess has hit one of your interests; albeit in some far away place. However, I have taken it on for you, so that you have the spare time for turning penises into geography. Uncle G (talk) 09:07, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't know if there are cabins in that village. Translating those few sentences is nothing, but translating that infobox etc., that will take me forever, so I'll leave that to an expert. Thank you for clearing up Ters. I'll have a look at that saint--but you know, Clifford is actually really interesting. Oh, Friday I'm presenting at a conference on that Beauvoir Club, where you helped me out with some of the famous people. I actually went to the Country Club a week or two ago--I kind of felt like a white subaltern. Drmies (talk) 15:37, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Ters" is really poorly attested, from what I've seen so far. I have asked Wouk for a copy of his article. Drmies (talk) 15:52, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Peaches!

Very sensibly, the Alabarmians have prevented access to the Maplesville Depot by train, with a big fence.

Although I have found for you a picture book that has an entire chapter about this (and two other chapters with the titles "Peach Capital" and "Reconstruction County"), I want you to ignore that, Doktoro. Do not get distracted by pictures, peaches, or Reconstruction.

Instead, if you want to impress the Alabarmy youth and get more of that youth cred, there's a whole historic railway depot section missing from the article. The youth of today want to know how the youth of a century ago took the railroad to skool (unlike how you swam to skool, yourself, as the lurkers will remember you relating). You will know when you're at the right sources when you find Danno Williams.

Uncle G (talk) 08:38, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The The Town and The People book is by two United Daughters of the Whatsit, and one of the lurkers or someone else will have to find out what and where the Alabarmy State Library is and extract the page numbers from it, and see what it says about very dead people.

I have also left you with the Old Southern Depot source to use. Try to ignore the fact that it incorrectly connects to the wrong Cuba.

In the meantime, Doktoro, I have been reminded of your liking for quiet calming furniture subjects, bringing peace in world full of checkuserering and staring at your socks. It's not quite furniture, but one of the sources that I pulled up has a subject that we seem to be missing. I shall see whether I can find a second source.

A question

Hi Drmies. I was just wondering if any run of the mill editor can remove a derogatory statement from another user page? The statement about Bagumba is uncalled for and there seems to be a history brewing with editors who don't agree with User:GOAT_Bones231012. Btw, we were both mentioned on his Wall of Shame not too long ago. Any words to prevent me from a future block are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Bringingthewood (talk) 22:59, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Beware of the Haters and Wikipedia Mafia:

Completely unrelated to the above, please see below list of random users:

Drmies , SMcCandlish , Bringingthewood , Bagumba , GiantSnowman

No, thank you. If you want, you could paste my message on my talk page .. no need for you to keep this garbage. I'll keep a civil tongue if this comes back to me. I truly appreciate your help. Regards, John. Bringingthewood (talk) 23:39, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Then again, maybe just a little more help, lol. Bringingthewood (talk) 01:19, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This was way out of control. I honestly want to know if I would have been blocked earlier, if I did such a thing. I've seen lesser crimes and editors are no longer here. At least three admins were listed on his page, that's a no-no in my book. Sorry if I raised your blood pressure with my messages, but I do appreciate everything that you did and are still doing. John. Bringingthewood (talk) 21:51, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I have two different medications for that so I'm good, I think. Yeah, we'll let this fester on for a little bit longer, it seems, but hey, at some point reason will prevail. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 21:57, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, sounds good. Thanks again. - Bringingthewood (talk) 22:17, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Bagumba! I'm presuming that you know that Kate DiCamillo turned Gilligan's Island into a minced oath in Flora and Ulysses. Someone must have mentioned it. I cannot be in the vanguard on this given that it's actually used as a punctuation example in teachers' guides to the book from 11 years ago. Doktoro is definitely not in the vanguard on these things, despite our collective, continued, and heroic efforts here to provide xem with youth cred. So there's going to be a whole generation of the youth of today, of a certain school age, before they learn the real words. On the other hand, you can claim to be holy, and {{cite YouTube}} as your source if anyone challenges that. ☺

Now, I have to get back to Marshall Fields and what to do about the Vida Lumber Company, a calming pre-furniture subject for Doktoro.

Uncle G (talk) 11:30, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Bloody Tebbel has me pluralizing Field's surname. But I have finally got there. I thought of the furniture-inspired calmness that you would feel, Doktoro, seeing me cite American Cabinetmaker and Upholsterer. Uncle G (talk) 11:24, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish Deli

Hey! I saw your contributions to Jewish deli, looking good! I did notice however that you completely removed a section I wrote Next time talk to the person on their talk page, especially if it's a large edit. Thanks! Vestrix (talk) 23:34, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User page vandalism (again)

Hey I don't know if you remember me but I previously informed you about a hoax on a userpage by User:Tomdav2747, who was subsequently blocked, but I'm here to inform you the user is back under the name Wrestler13285 who is causing disruptive editing and has a few hoaxes on his user page. Wonder if you can take a look for me? Cheers! Lemonademan22 (talk) 21:33, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also note the exact same editng pattern, always editing his own talk page and a rare few edits on something else (mostly disruptive). Lemonademan22 (talk) 21:36, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My dear colleague Bbb23 handled it. Bbb, thanks; maybe you know I don't have my special glasses anymore. Drmies (talk) 01:57, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, I didn't know. If there was an announcement, I missed it. What happened? Please e-mail me if you prefer.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:05, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I will at some point. We all kept it quiet, I guess, to save me from the embarrassment. Drmies (talk) 02:08, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very sorry. I hope you're not upset.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:12, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Théodore Beck

On 26 February 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Théodore Beck, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Lutheran pastor Théodore Beck employed modern education methods at the École alsacienne in Paris in the 1880s: no prizes and no corporal punishment? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Théodore Beck. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Théodore Beck), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Requesting Advice Concerning the Megafauna Man Vandal

Hi, so, the Megafauna Man Vandal is back, and has been using this talkpage as a sandbox for their megafauna nonsense, and has been using about six different IPs to edit it, as well as perform their other unconstructive editing since the 17th of February. And I'm wondering should I just go ahead and report all of them to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism or ask you or another admin to block all of these active IP socks? Thank you for your time in hearing me out. Mr Fink (talk) 02:15, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:139.195.164.225 has edits from the following IPs: 139.0.86.192 + 139.195.138.77 + 139.195.164.225 + 149.113.25.121 + 149.113.25.179 + 149.113.26.152 + 149.113.40.167.

It is like a good book, right?

We have the English Professor Vacuum maintaining its continual inward suction by having a complete absence of any English professors whatsoever here, Doktoro, but I am thinking at the moment that it would be unwise to do the same for philosophy professors. Stick a handful of them into a room and ask them what a book is, and they'll come up with three competing schools of thought all with their own -isms and -ists, a solemn explanation of the ontology of an abstract manifold of a set of leaf-forms carrying signifiers for a social construct of lexemes, several critiques pointing out that sets are not ordered, and at least one rebel explaining that everyone else is wrong because they all forgot that books can have pictures.

All that said, John M. Ellis is a German professor.
