The Working Wikipedian's Barnstar
This award is given in recognition to ARandomName123 for accumulating at least 10 points during the January 2025 NPP backlog drive. Your contributions helped play a part in the 16,000+ articles and 14,000+ redirects reviewed (for a total of 19,791.2 points) completed during the drive. Thank you so much for taking part and contributing to help reduce the backlog! Hey man im josh (talk) 19:37, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Silver seren: Fixed, thanks for letting me know! I was working on adding a yearly leaderboard as discussed at WT:URA, and I accidentally left part of my work-in-progress code in. Sorry about that! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 23:27, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Steve Finlay (22:31, 10 February 2025)

[edit]

Hi there, I am working on a separate page for Hitachi Astemo. Currently, there is only a reference to them on the Hitach Ltd page. My question is if there already is an Astemo page in Japanese with an English translation does Astemo need to create a third English page? --Steve Finlay (talk) 22:31, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Steve Finlay: Hi, what do you mean by a page in Japanese with an English translation? If there is no page on the English Wikipedia for Hitachi Astemo, you are welcome to create one, so long as you can prove it's notable. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:34, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for not originally including the link. This is the Japanese page (link below). The North American page will be the same. Is it possible to convert this Japanese page to a page to a North American page? Or, do I have to start from scratch? Thank you again for your help. Trying to save some time and I am new to this.
https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%97%A5%E7%AB%8BAstemo Steve Finlay (talk) 14:52, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Steve Finlay: Hi, you can just translate the Japanese page, if you can read it (Machine translation isn't the best). Just make sure to attribute it by putting something like this in the edit summary: Content in this edit is translated from the existing Japanese Wikipedia article at [[:ja:日立Astemo]]; see its history for attribution. See Help:Translation for more info on translating articles from other Wikipedias. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:20, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thank you for the information, this is very helpful. If I translate the Japanese page, do you know if it would be the same estimated two month approval time? Steve Finlay (talk) 16:42, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Steve Finlay: In my experience, the better the sources are at proving notability, the faster it will be reviewed. The fact that it was translated won't have a significant impact on review time. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:42, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for the information. Can you provide some insight on how to convert word document tables to wikipedia page draft? Steve Finlay (talk) 16:55, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Steve Finlay: Hi, sorry for the late reply. I'm not aware of a way to convert word document tables to wikitext. Maybe take a screenshot, and ask ChatGPT to do it for you? ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 14:34, 14 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicating diffs?

[edit]

The leaderboard appears to be duplicating certain diffs three separate times and thus is giving an inaccurate total number. It was only duplicating it twice yesterday, but now there appears to be third set. I should be at close to 200 diffs, but that jumped to 270 a couple days ago and now is at 330. SilverserenC 23:04, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Looking into it, thanks for letting me know. I think this is only the second time this has happened? In any case, issues with the count can almost always be traced back to the tracker, which shows that edits onwards from February 11 have been repeating once or twice. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:38, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Silver seren: Fixed, sorry about that! Thanks for letting me know. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:01, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bill Ackman, Herbalife

[edit]

Hello again, ARandomName123. We were in touch last year at Talk:Pershing Square Capital Management, in particular surrounding the Herbalife section at that article. With that context in mind, would you mind taking a look at Bill Ackman#Herbalife short? At it reads now, it is unbalanced and misleading in large part because it lacks information about the US Government's findings about the company which validated Ackman's thesis, but importantly the section is over-detailed and WP:UNDUE for a biography of Ackman, at 10 paragraphs. Could you help trim the section to an appropriate length, possibly similar to the two paragraphs we have at the Pershing Square article? Another option to consider is to WP:SPLIT the longer Herbalife story into its own article. I welcome your thoughts and would appreciate your involvement. Thank you, FMatPSCM (talk) 15:29, 6 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@FMatPSCM: Hi, I'm quite busy with midterms currently, and throughout next week. Feel free to propose edit requests on the talk page, and if they are still unanswered when I'm done, I will take a look. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:48, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi ARandomName123. Hope your midterms went well and things are good with you. I posted at Talk:Bill Ackman#Herbalife short but haven't gotten much attention there. Could you take a look now and consider the best way to trim the section and fix the problem? Thanks, FMatPSCM (talk) 14:41, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Betaquiline (03:51, 8 March 2025)

[edit]

hi if I edit an article about a false entry - credit to a discovery, that belong to somebody else, am I going to be targeted? I have publication to support my edit. best --Betaquiline (talk) 03:51, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Betaquiline: Hi, assuming you have a reliable source and you cite it properly, you should be fine to fix errors in an entry. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:53, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am finding it little bit tricky to edit - but the facts are
Koen Andries and his team are credited with the discovery and development of bedaquiline (R207910). Their groundbreaking work was published in 2005, and bedaquiline was later approved by the FDA in 2012 for treating multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).
Dr. Anil Koul was also a part of Janssen Pharmaceutica and contributed to TB research, but he was not the primary scientist behind the discovery of bedaquiline. His work at Janssen and elsewhere has focused on advancing TB therapies and global health initiatives, but the specific credit for bedaquiline's discovery belongs to Koen Andries and his team.
Clarifying Roles:
Scientific discoveries, especially in drug development, often involve large teams and collaborations. While Dr. Anil Koul may have contributed to the broader TB research efforts at Janssen, he did not lead the discovery of bedaquiline.
Misattribution of credit can sometimes occur in public discussions or media reports, but the historical record clearly attributes the discovery of bedaquiline to Koen Andries and his team. Betaquiline (talk) 04:54, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Betaquiline: I'm assuming you're taking issue with the page Anil Koul? If the information is not supported by the sources, feel free to tag it with {{citation needed}} or {{failed verification}}, try to find a source, or just outright remove it. Hello, I'm the founder of a film production company. I want to create a wiki page for the company, could you please guide me? --Nikhil Kumawat116 (talk) 12:24, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Nikhil Kumawat116: Hi, your first step would be checking if your company is notable enough to qualify for an article. Are there independent news sources with significant coverage of your company? Alternatively, has your company had a major role in major films? ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:46, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Short Story

[edit]

There once was a girl named Jadie and she was 13 she went school and at school she learned about the solar system. Jadie too the train home and it was kinda a weird ride because 2 people were fighting and 4 students were getting high

Everycoolthing (talk) 00:54, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

So, you got all A's, right?

[edit]

Okay, maybe that's too much pressure. :P But I hope your tests went well! SilverserenC 20:26, 14 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Maybe not in the A range, but should be good enough! (except for Calculus, power series killed me).
Anyways, tracking for URA pretty much completely collapsed for some reason a few days ago, so I've completely paused it. I'm mostly free now, so I should have it up and running again by the end of the weekend. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 13:09, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Despite me hating it, certain math has always been really easy for me for some reason, so i breezed through calculus. Physics, on the other hand, was way too abstract for me (and it didn't help that the teacher I got was the head of the math department who on a whim decided to teach a math class that year and his teaching method was terrible since he acted like all of it was easy and we should just understand everything like he does). And don't even get me started on organic chemistry...
It feels like the bot/tracker was purposefully waiting for you to be busy so this could happen. :P The timing was incredible. SilverserenC 16:03, 15 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I wish I could breeze through calculus lol. Derivatives and integration I'm fine with, but I like can't wrap my head around series and stuff. Not looking forward to organic chemistry in the upper years.
Yea, it was unfortunate. I took a look at the tracker today, and honestly I have no clue what's going on with it. I turned it on again, and it was non-functional. I left for a few hours, came back, and it was working normally again for some reason?? And then it ran into that doublecount rewind error again after another hour or so? Anyways, turns out I was relying on an unmaintained Python library for some reason, so hopefully it should be good once I rewrite it to work with a maintained one. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:50, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, at least you managed to figure out what was causing the problem. SilverserenC 04:52, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Silver seren: Back up and running. I set it back to before I stopped it, so there should be nothing missing. I did accidentally delete the old logs, so I had to manually readd the old data back in from the leaderboard history, so if there are any edits missing (there shouldn't be, but I may have missed something), please let me know. Cheers, ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:36, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
At least for now, it looks right. Including the yearly version. SilverserenC 23:16, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's experiencing the rewind error on and off again. It should avoid double counting, but might drop an edit here and there. Spent quite a bit trying to figure out what was wrong with my code, until I stumbled upon phab:T388290 and phab:T388294. Turns out it wasn't even a problem on my end. Didn't even need to switch Python libraries, but it's probably for the better. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 04:43, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Buttersuwant (21:21, 18 March 2025)

[edit]

Hello Juxlos, I am Butters. In writing something to be published how necessary is it to add citations within certain aspects of the topic? I understand it's needed on presenting facts but when things that are undecided but leaning towards could be facts. How important at that point to express that it might not be absolute yet? There are many subjects I have seen that speak on things as factual when certain studies have made no such conclusion or claimed as such. But may lean towards the conclusion as factual. I think it's very important how we define what a word means in its usage and ideologies that mislead into said conclusions that might not be factual. --Buttersuwant (talk) 21:21, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Buttersuwant: Hi, when writing, you should ensure your text matches closely with the source. Undecided or leaning towards facts should not be included, unless they can be explicitly supported by a reliable source. If a source makes no comment on a conclusion, do not draw your own conclusion. If a source says they are not sure, we should reflect the same level of uncertainty. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:57, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have attempted to re-expand Indian Mineral Leasing Act in part using a reference which was part of a copyvio you had flagged. I did not copy anything without quotation and did my best to work it in without WP:SYNTH or WP:OR, but I would still appreciate a review if you'd be willing. Tule-hog (talk) 02:39, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Tule-hog: Thanks for the rewrite! The only thing I noticed was a bit similar was However, the IMLA did not authorize Native American lease-holders to cancel leases, nor establish any "regulatory authority" once projects had begun. The DOI negotiated below-market prices and failed to enforce environmental protections and "royalty compliance". It's not that bad though, so just adjust a few words and it should be good. Everything else seems fine to me! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:01, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jeff Goldberg-96 (17:52, 30 March 2025)

[edit]

On my edit of the "List of Georgetown University alumni" where I added alum David G. Greenfield it appears that the dates and citations aren't centered and lined up equally next to the other dates and citations but rather its off...

Thanks in Advance! --Jeff Goldberg-96 (talk) 17:52, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeff Goldberg-96: Fixed! Just needed to add "| style="text-align:center;"" in front of the non-centred tables. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:04, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ARandomName123 Thanks so much! I'm fairly new to Wikipedia so I still use the Visual Editor, so is there a way to do this on the Visual Editor? If not how can I learn to use the actual editor.
Thanks in Advance! Jeff Goldberg-96 (talk) 18:13, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff Goldberg-96: I usually use the VE during normal editing as well, however it isn't very good at anything other than standard writing. I don't believe there is a way to do this on the VE. Formatting of tables is usually better done through the source editor. Usually, just check what the row above yours did, and copy in the formatting text. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:20, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, how can I "copy in the formatting text above" of the column that I'm editing/creating.
Thanks Once Again! Jeff Goldberg-96 (talk) 18:28, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeff Goldberg-96: Taking the edit you were trying to make as an example, go into source mode, and find where you would like to insert the new entry. The row above yours would be
|-
| {{sortname|Frank|Gaffney}}
| style="text-align:center;"| 1975
| style="text-align:center;"| SFS
| President and founder of the [[Center for Security Policy]]
| style="text-align:center;"| <ref>{{Cite web |title=Frank Gaffney |url=http://www.nndb.com/people/870/000048726/ |access-date=2015-10-11 |website=www.nndb.com}}</ref>
Copy and paste that immediately below itself. Then, just remove replace the stuff applicable to Frank Gaffney with the information for your portion (i.e. change the name, year, reference, etc.) Leave the other formatting elements (i.e. style, "|" characters) intact. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:37, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Peannaire (19:51, 3 April 2025)

[edit]

Hi, I don't know if this is too specific of a question or where I'm supposed to ask, but I'm trying to figure out what the requirements are for a game to be added to the list of "Versions" at the bottom of the SameGame page. Would I be able to add minigames from larger games to this list, like Wardrobe Challenge from goSupermodel for example? Sorry if there's somewhere else I'm supposed to be asking this. --Peannaire (talk) 19:51, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Peannaire: Hi, I believe that you should only add it if the minigame has been covered by reliable sources, like news articles. Also, it might depend on the page, but the Versions section may not be the best place to put it. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 23:08, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@ODDA global: I meant like sources that are not produced by you. If there isn't any external, independent coverage of your magazine, any article on it would probably be rejected or deleted. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 19:49, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!
