Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport (Indonesian: Bandar Udara Umbu Mehang Kunda) (IATA: WGP, ICAO: WATU, formerly WRRW), also formerly known as Mau Hau Airport, is an airport serving Waingapu, the largest town on the island of Sumba, in the province of East Nusa Tenggara in Indonesia.

It is a civilian airport with one runway which operates only domestic flights to other parts of Indonesia.

History

Originally, Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport was known as Mau Hau Airport before it was renamed. It is a civilian airport which serves the town of Waingapu, the largest town on the island of Sumba, in the East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.[2]

In 2016, Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport opened a new terminal in order to improve passenger services. Although there is no bus connection to the airport, there are some car parking lots and a taxi stand outside the terminal.[3]

Facilities

The airport stands at an elevation of 33 feet (10 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway, designated 15/33, with an asphalt surface measuring 2,200 by 45 metres (7,218 ft × 148 ft).[1]

Airlines and destinations

A number of airlines fly from Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport, all to domestic destinations. NAM Air and Wings Air operate routes to Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar. Citilink, NAM Air, TransNusa and Wings Air operate routes to El Tari Airport in Kupang. Wings Air also operate a route to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar. Susi Air also operate flights from Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport to Frans Sales Lega Airport in Ruteng and Tardamu Airport on Sabu Island.[3]
