Suicide by electrocution
- ... that while suicide by electrocution is usually very rare, it was one of the most common methods used in Nazi concentration camps due to the surrounding high-voltage electric fences (pictured)?
- Source: "It was evident from the collected material that the most common, most numerous, and most easily available method of committing suicide in the concentration camp was 'flinging oneself onto the wires' (Polish pójście na druty or rzucenie się na druty). As noted below, this could be any form or style of contact with the electrified barbed wire surrounding the camp.", "Suicide in the Nazi concentration camps", Medical Review Auschwitz, 2017.
- ALT1: ... that when women choose suicide by electrocution, they usually do it by dropping a plugged-in hair dryer in a bathtub they've immersed themselves in? Source: "There is preponderance of bathtub electrocution associated with females", "Suicidal electrocution: a report of three unusual cases", in Soudní Lékařství (2021)
- ALT2: ... that deputy commandant Karl Fritzsch implored the first large group of prisoners shipped to Auschwitz in 1940 to "go straight into the wires" (pictured) if they didn't like conditions in the camp? Source: [1] Paywalled and in German

- Comment: My first DYK nomination in months. Yes, as the title should warn you, this material can be very triggering and disturbing, especially the source for ALT1, which has pictures you may not want to look at. If you're not ready for this emotionally, I strongly advise you to consider reviewing a different hook.
