The necessary information for the infobox is on the individual ship articles. -MBK004 18:53, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Catapult not installed before "end of the war". Do you mean "start of the war"? Djmaschek (talk) 23:53, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No, but thanks for catching that. I'll clarify it in the text.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 00:14, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Caps misunderstanding

[edit]

There seems to be a misunderstanding on Sturmvogel 66's side. He's capitalizing "8 Water-tube boilers" and "4 Shafts", because they're not the "first words".

I'd like to see the guideline or style guide that prescribes that.

Additionally, he does not apply that consistently in the article. For instance, "1600 officers and crewmen" seems to be ok.

Lede

[edit]

Makes sense to list specific battles rather than Guadalcanal for Eastern Solomons and Santa Cruz islands. With the exception of the Battle of Midway, they participated in every major naval action of the Pacific War, including the attack on Pearl Harbor (where they raided airfields), the Indian Ocean Raid, the Battle of the Coral Sea, the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf (Zuikaku only).

This is jumping back and forth instead of being chronological. It is better to list their record (two US carriers sunk) after concluding their 1942 campaign. Their inexperienced air groups were relegated to airfield attacks during the attack on Pearl Harbor, but they later sank two of the four fleet carriers lost by the United States Navy during the war in addition to one elderly British light carrier.

Could allow a bit more detail in listing her fate, after mentioning Shokaku's loss by a submarine torpedo. Zuikaku was sacrificed as a decoy four months later during the Battle off Cape Engaño at Leyte Gulf where she was sunk by American carrier-based aircraft.
