I will take a look at this one, comments to follow in due course. Zawed (talk) 07:40, 10 March 2025 (UTC)
Infobox
- At the top, the presentation of his rank is different to the lead
- Oops, fixed capitalisation - Dumelow (talk) 17:42, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Assume place of birth unknown?
- yes, not found that listed anywhere - Dumelow (talk) 17:42, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Unit: rather than the backslash, wouldn't a comma be more typical style for reciting the unit
- Bit of an unusual one in that the unit was the 24th Regiment (of Foot) until 1881 and therafter was the South Wales Borderers. I had hoped the slash conveyed they were the same unit rather than the 24th was a sub-unit of the SWB - Dumelow (talk) 17:42, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Add Indian Mutiny to Battles/Wars?
- Yes, good call - Dumelow (talk) 17:42, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
Lead
- Suggest linking British Army, captain
- Done - Dumelow (talk) 17:47, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- the 1st battalion of the regiment: because you are referring to a specific unit, I think that should be a capital B.
- Yes, I often get this wrong! Fixed - Dumelow (talk) 17:47, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Glyn assumed command of the post at Rorke's Drift in the aftermath of the battle.: suggest rephrasing a little as the mention of the battle could be construed as a reference to the fighting at Isandlwana rather than at Rorke's Drift.
- Tried to reorder this to improve it. Let me know what you think - Dumelow (talk) 17:47, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Is there a link for "second invasion of Zululand"?
- At some point I hope to create articles for the invasions as they are quite distinct campaigns. For now linked to Anglo-Zulu_War#Second_invasion
- link Brecon, Wales
- Linked Brecon. But I thought it was practice not to link country names? - Dumelow (talk) 17:47, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Correct, I cut and pasted from the article but forgot to trim out the Wales part. Zawed (talk) 07:58, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- Linked Brecon. But I thought it was practice not to link country names? - Dumelow (talk) 17:47, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
Early career
- Suggest linking ranks on their first mention
- from 1855 to 1856.[5][6][2]: cites out of order if that is a thing for you. There are few more instances later on in the article
- I'm not overly fussy but it does make the article look tidier so done - Dumelow (talk) 18:10, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
Southern Africa
- Historian Donald Morris described Glyn...: not sure if this statement is in relation to how he was perceived in the 9th Cape Frontier War or is more general, but if the former suggest making that more explicit.
- I've gone back to the source and it's relating to the Zulu War, have tried to make this clear and moved it down to the end of that section - Dumelow (talk) 18:18, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Pulleine of the 1st battalion of the 24th Regiment,...: capitalise the b in battalion as per my comment above
- 1st Brigade of the 2nd Division: link 2nd Division
- Linked to 2nd_Infantry_Division_(United_Kingdom)#Victorian_Era, where it is very briefly mentioned (somethign else to rectify at some point!) - Dumelow (talk) 18:18, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
Later career
- link the general ranks mentioned in this section
- Done - Dumelow (talk) 18:18, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
Death and legacy
- This looks OK
Source checks
- A bit limited but I did a few spot checks using Google books preview:
- ref 2f (Laband) doesn't support the battalion serving in the 9th Frontier War or that he commanded troops
- Oh good spot, not sure how that crept in. Several companies of the 24th were part of the Transkei Field Force, which Glyn commanded. I have rephrased and added a supplementary source - Dumelow (talk) 18:07, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- ref 2j (Laband) doesn't support Ulundi as sealing the British victory in the war
- Altered to "the decisive last major battle of the war, which ended in British victory" and ref added - Dumelow (talk) 18:07, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- other instances of Laband seem fine although I can't work out what page xii is supposed to support
- me neither, removed - Dumelow (talk) 18:07, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- ref 3 OK
- ref 5 OK
- ref 12 OK
Other stuff
- Image tags OK
- No dupe links
@Dumelow: that's about it for me. Over to you. Cheers, Zawed (talk) 11:07, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review Zawed, much appreciated. You've picked up on some important things there. I've had a go at responding to your comments above, cheers - Dumelow (talk) 18:18, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- There were a couple of things I missed, but I have fixed them so as to not hold this up. Passing as GA now as I consider the article meets the necessary criteria. Zawed (talk) 08:03, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
