Acts section

[edit]

The first paragraph of this section was a shambles - mistaken consensus of historians and fallacious logic. After trying to remove it all, other editors pushed back. So I just named the one historian cited in the text and removed Ehrman as a cite, because it fails verification. See https://gnosis.study/library/%D0%93%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B7%D0%B8%D1%81/+%20%D0%9D%D0%B5%20%D1%82%D0%BE%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BA%D0%BE%20%D0%BE%20%D0%B3%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B7%D0%B8%D1%81%D0%B5/ENG/Ehrman%20B.D.%20-%20Peter,%20Paul%20and%20Mary%20Magdalene.%20The%20Followers%20of%20Jesus%20in%20History%20and%20Legend.pdfMnnlaxer | talk | stalk 19:04, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Teachings of Jesus?

[edit]

Is it accurate to say that Paul spread the teachings of Jesus? What is the evidence? The citation doesn't help much... 47.12.161.100 (talk) 05:01, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We don't know what Paul did. His epistles do not say much about the actual teachings of Jesus. tgeorgescu (talk) 10:15, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"the actual teachings of Jesus" Why would the teachings of Jesus matter to early Christians? Pauline Christianity diverged from the ideas of Second Temple Judaism which Jesus embraced. Dimadick (talk) 08:08, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"In Romans 16:7, he states that his relatives, Andronicus and Junia, were Christians before he was and were prominent among the Apostles."

This is erroneous and should be removed. Nothing about the text indicates the Andronicus and Junia were his literal relatives: Romans 16:11 Paul refers to his 'relative Herodion'. Romans 16:17 Paul addresses the church in Rome as 'brothers and sisters' (literally 'brothers' in the Greek). In no way does this mean that Herodian, Andronicus, Junia or the entire church in Rome were Paul's literal relatives. It's symbolic language (i.e. brother/sister/relative in CHRIST). 2600:480A:3391:0:2108:C6D2:A145:72FB (talk) 01:50, 10 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Paul's death: Tertullian's account

[edit]

The text reads "Paul was "crowned with an exit like John" (Paulus Ioannis exitu coronatur), although it is unclear which John he [Tertullian] meant". Is there any reason why we should not say that this comparison most likely refers to John the Baptist? BobKilcoyne (talk) 05:33, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
