Clarifying Category Status in Lead
[edit]Per WP:LEAD, the opening paragraph should clearly define what the subject is. Right now, it's not clear whether the Old Left is meant to be a defunct historical movement or a current political label. Since that ambiguity sits at the core of how readers understand the topic, I think it merits clarification in the first few lines.
As it stands, the first paragraph's exclusive use of the past tense (implying obsolescence) clashes with the second, which revives the movement via present-tense phrasing. Present-tense usage for abstract categories is fine per MOS:TENSE, but here it blurs the line between a defunct movement and a living label without clarifying the distinction. – gregmark (talk) 08:23, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
