[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: move to Music (app). Early closure per WP:NOTBURO because this is uncontentious. (closed by non-admin page mover) feminist🩸 (talk) 15:14, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
Music (Apple) → Music (application) – Current title does not clearly distinguish the subject from other similarly named subjects such as Apple Music. Alternate suggestion of "Music (Apple application) if further disambiguation is needed. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 18:43, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Move to Music (app) for consistency with other titles; see, for example: Tinder (app), Xbox (app), Keep (app), and Whisper (app). voorts (talk/contributions) 20:05, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- That works too. I was looking at Shazam (application) and didn't think to check for the shorter term. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 20:07, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- I was thinking that maybe that should be renamed as well, but Shazam (app) redirects to a section of the article on the app. voorts (talk/contributions) 20:19, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- I would support renaming that. Unless I've been misled all these years and "application" and "app" don't mean the exact same thing, then the whole article is about the app and that redirect to section is pointless. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 20:22, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- I can make the move, unless you think it needs an RM. voorts (talk/contributions) 20:24, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Nah, go for it. If anyone disputes it then you can open the discussion after. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 20:30, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Proposed merge into Apple Music
[edit]The articles Music (app) and Apple Music both seem to cover the same product but as different categories of software. The former covers it as an app while the latter does so as a streaming service. This seems unnecessarily redundant considering how substantially similar the scopes of these articles are. I propose that contents from this article be merged into Apple Music and this page be redirected there. Bernardgeorgeh (talk) 03:31, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
both seem to cover the same product
No, they don't:- Music (app) is a media player that can play audio from several sources, including, for example, random MP3 files you've added to your library; it's not restricted to the Apple Music service. As the article says, "It can play music files stored locally on devices, as well as stream from the iTunes Store and Apple Music."
- Apple Music is a streaming service that supports more clients than just Apple's Music app. As the article says:
It is also available for Android devices running version 4.3 or later, ChromeOS devices, Amazon Echo devices, and Sonos speakers. For devices without a native application, Apple Music is available on the web with a web player in beta.[1] On October 27, 2021, Sony announced that Apple Music would become available on the PlayStation 5.[2] On October 12, 2022, Apple Music became available for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.[3]
- So they should not be merged. Guy Harris (talk) 06:15, 10 June 2025 (UTC)
