"Websites that are part of political campaigns" are not necessarily disinformation sites. The article should be rewritten so it doesn't imply this.
Also, if there is enough evidence to report that these websites are part of political campaigns, it would be a simple matter to state which political campaign each of these sites is associated with. The assertions in the article would be far less dubious if that that information was provided. 2601:281:D880:7880:835:6F01:22E8:5F98 (talk) 15:23, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: The article says that they are "that are part of political campaigns or have been designated by journalists and researchers as likely being part of political campaigns" yet the title says that they are disinformation website campaigns.
Could someone who is editing this article expand the lede a little more to explain what these lists are? It is not obvious to me from reading the lede, what this article contains. I think it would be helpful for the casual reader. 21:09, 23 August 2024 (UTC) Aszx5000 (talk) 21:09, 23 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly does "List of political disinformation website campaigns in the United States" or more specifically, "...political disinformation website campaigns..." mean?
The first sentence of the article says, "The following is a list of websites...that have both been considered by journalists and researchers as distributing false news - or otherwise participating in disinformation - and have been designated by journalists and researchers as likely being linked to political actors in the United States."
Is "political disinformation" (the phrase in the headline) the same as "distributing false news"? Not according to our article on Disinformation which requires that the misleading news be "deliberately spread to deceive people" whereas misinformation (according to that article) can be inadvertent and yet false. Why is the word "campaign" in the title? Is that an attempt to capture what the lead sentence in the article refers to as "linked to political actors"? Because that doesn't work. The top of the article says "Main article: List of fake news websites". That is an article about outlets that "intentionally, but not necessarily solely, publish hoaxes and disinformation." I'm not sure what, exactly, this article is supposed to be, but it is rife with WP:OR. We don't seem to have a standard uniform definition of what exactly "political disinformation website campaigns" are. And why just websites? And what does "campaigns" mean in this context? I agreed with that redirect but since that redirect was reverted, I will return to my questions. TotalVibe945, you started the article and reverted the redirect, so please weigh in. Note that I originally asked these questions a little over a month ago.
(1) Why does the title of the article have the word "campaign" in it? There is nothing in the article that answers that question or makes it clear why the word "campaign" is in the title, nor is it clear to me, as I contemplate this article, what that can mean.
(2) Is "political disinformation" (the phrase in the headline) the same as "distributing false news"? Not according to our article on Disinformation which requires that the misleading news be "deliberately spread to deceive people" whereas misinformation (according to that article) can be inadvertent and yet false. Since our WP article on disinformation is not what you're relying on for your definition of the characteristics of "political disinformation" what are you relying on? How are you defining it?
(3) What characteristics or traits does a website have to have to make it into this list? What you seem to be getting at in the introduction is two defining characteristics: (a) Journalists or researchers think the website distributes false news and (b) journalists/researchers think that the website is "likely.. linked to political actors in the United States". Here are some questions. Does just one journalist or researcher have to have claimed that the website distributes false news or should it have to be a higher number than that? Does the allegation about the website publishing false news have to say that the website routinely publishes false news? Or could it be just once? Or what? With respect to point (b), how many journalists/researchers would have to have made that connection? Novellasyes (talk) 17:12, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This article currently appears to be a largely WP:OR project by TotalVibe945. I believe the redirect should be reinstated until and unless we achieve a consensus through discussion about definition of terms, etc. Marquardtika (talk) 20:03, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
