Updating the 'awards and nominations' table

[edit]

I think it would be beneficial to make the below updates to the 'awards and nominations' table, which appears beneath the article image. Please let me know if you have any thoughts and/or any suggestions on the most efficient way to make these updates.

1) Order alphabetically, aligning with the order of awards in the article. I re-ordered the article recently to ensure awards are listed alphabetically; I believe the article was originally in alphabetical order, but this may not have been maintained as the article grew.

2) Group awards issued by the same organisation, where appropriate. For example, MTV awards could be grouped under one row. Or, the most notable MTV award(s) could be given a standalone row, whilst a second row could be used for all other MTV awards. This will help reduce the overall length of this table.

3) Validate the numbers. Ensure the number of nominations and wins matches the details in the article.

4) Fix formatting. Add missing links; align with style guide (e.g. italics where necessary for certain organisations, magazines etc.); correct the formattting of the 'iHeartRadio Music Awards' row. VI7 1 (talk) 00:43, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@VI7 1 These updates look good to me. I think I would like to add one point:
5) Add sources to the list - for verifiability, as the current state of the list lacks sources in the newer awards (which was also brought up as a point in the demotion discussion of the list from FL).
I would be happy to help in implementing these changes. Maybe we can nominate this list for FL again when it's done ;)
A question for you: will you be planning to merge the awards as a single table (such as List of awards and nominations received by Coldplay) or to leave it as it is? Jolly1253 (talk) 15:51, 24 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea, Jolly1253! Perhaps a 'Ref' column should be added to all the award tables.
Regarding a single, combined table - what do you think is the best approach? The layout seems to vary from article to article. e.g. Some artists (Michael Jackson, Coldplay) have a single table, some have multiple standalone tables (Linkin Park, Depeche Mode, Guns N' Roses), whilst others have a hybrid layout (Taylor Swift) with standalone tables for major awards and rest under a single table, VI7 1 (talk) 00:15, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@VI7 1 In Swift's case, I think the layout is used because she has numerous awards (1,622 nominations!!), which helps readers to know which are the more "important" awards on the list. I don't think this layout should be used here, but can be considered in the future if the list expands to that state. As for the other two layouts, I'm okay with both but would prefer to have a single table (which is neater, but harder to edit if I'm looking for a particular award).
Let me know what are your thoughts about it. (I do have a few more points that I might want to make, but let us just take one step at a time.)
(Just a note: If you had intended to ping me, it doesn't work if you edit it in after publishing the comment.) Jolly1253 (talk) 07:19, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jolly1253 That makes sense. If you know the best way / most efficient way to set up the single table layout, you should go for it! I am happy to support, especially with some of the other amendments (above).
Thanks for letting me know about the pings. VI7 1 (talk) 16:52, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
