Bold dates?

[edit]

Recently, all dates for everything in this list were made bold by this edit. I don't think it helps much, and the lede states that wars in bold are important, which now do not stand out in the list. If there are no objections, I will unbold the dates. --A D Monroe III (talk) 18:19, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I actually think that the bolding of dates is a good idea, it helps the reader in a way that you might not think of to distinguish one line from another. -SantiLak (talk) 23:02, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Can we figure some alternative way to help distinguish the lines without using bold for multiple conflicting purposes? --A D Monroe III (talk) 18:30, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Picture at the Top of the Article Is Incorrectly Labeled

[edit]

The picture depicts Iraqi soldiers disembarking from a Chinook, not US Service-members. You can tell this from the AKMs the soldiers hold (not a US service weapon), DBDUs/DCUs camo (phased out mostly by 2006 in favor of the UCP), and no American uniform insignia (like unit or flag patches). 2600:4808:4914:3500:FC7E:27EB:D9C3:523A (talk) 13:18, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Removed, as the extended description on the file in Commons also indicates it is not US military (is actually Iraq Army). See File:US Navy 060316-N-5438H-015 U.S. Army soldiers assigned to the 187th Infantry Regiment disembark a CH-47 Chinook helicopter in support of Operation Swarmer.jpg for more details. -- 174.17.163.42 (talk) 20:39, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Earliest period to include

[edit]

The United States did not exist as such during the 1622-1637 period, and given title of this article is "Timeline of United States military operations" that material currently found in the article should be considered out of scope. The American Revolutionary War is the earliest timeframe that can legitimately be considered on this article under the current title, as it was the period where the individual states existed and functioned as such, and that conflict was pivotal in the process to unite them.

If the title was "Timeline of North American Colonial military operations" it would make sense, but that would preclude everything after the conclusion of the American Revolutionary War. In addition the Jamestown Massacre and the Pequot War there are a lot of other actions that could be included in that article, including the conflicts between the Dutch and the English over New Netherland, the previous conquering of New Sweden by the Dutch, and the multiple conflicts over New France by the French and the English settlers, culminating in the French and Indian War. -- 174.17.163.42 (talk) 19:09, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Expository paragraphs

[edit]

Do the detailed expository paragraphs in §American Revolutionary War and §Battles with Native Americans (including subcategories) make sense here in a timeline article, which should mostly be a list without great detail, per MOS:TIMELINE? I don't think it does, so going to remove those sections. -- 174.17.163.42 (talk) 20:12, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Note that after reviewing the article history, all of those sections that I removed were added by Ali Ahwazi (talk · contribs), who is permabanned. -- 174.17.163.42 (talk) 20:23, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
