A little note

[edit]

Many sources used in the original version of the article contradicts each other. Claims made by the jawiki version were prioritized in these cases. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 06:11, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure how April fools hooks are selected, can someone give me a guidance on that? Apparently imaged hooks take ages to appear, and I'll likely be semi-retired by the time the hook with the image runs. If this hook ever happens to be selected as an April fools hook, I would go with ALT0 (I thought ALT0 was for the original hook, but I guess DYK has a weird numbering system.) ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 08:58, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@AlphaBetaGamma: I renumbered Vigilantcosmicpenguin's ALT0. You need to a) add this to WP:DYKAPRIL and b) add the image to this page if you want it considered.--Launchballer 15:35, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, tweaked ALT2 and moved the template. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 01:12, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Launchballer:

As the translation is "tomb of the Christ", the April Fool's hook would be ALT2a: ... that the tomb of the Christ (pictured) is in Japan?.--Launchballer 14:07, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Here is another attempt:
ALT3: ... that as of 2013, an estimated 20,000 visitors a year went to see the tomb of the Christ (pictured) in Japan?
Think other hooks are possible; there are more bizarre facts that could easily be added to the article. Cielquiparle (talk) 11:29, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
ALT4: ... that although tens of thousands of people visit the tomb of Christ (pictured) each year, very few believe it is real?
The truth is bizarre enough, so just tell it like it is? Cielquiparle (talk) 06:33, 28 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I think I like ALT4 better. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 23:40, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Piotrus, since this nomination was not chosen for April Fools, the hooks need to be rereviewed for their suitability as regular hooks. Please check them, strike any that don't work, and mention below which ones, if any, do (and if they do, please also add the appropriate tick). Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:57, 2 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    • I see no problem with running the hooks proposed here on regular day, although ALT4 is likely most clear and less tongue-in-cheek. Up to closing admin preference which to go with. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:24, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
      • Piotrus, really? You see no problem at all with a hook stating in Wikipedia's voice that the tomb of Jesus Christ or the tomb of the Christ is in Japan? I do. I've struck those two as being unsuitable, and ALT1 as well. That leaves the original hook and ALT4, and under the circumstances I'm going to suggest that a new reviewer be asked to determine whether either is suitable, or if a new hook need to be proposed. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:49, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Upon reading the article here, ALT0 does seem to be the safest option. It is a definite fact that the village claims to have Jesus's tomb (even though it's a hoax), the hook does not suggest that the claim is true, and it is mentioned in the source. About the main issue I'm seeing is that no sentence about the Jesus's tomb claim actually has a footnote, which violates WP:DYKHFC. That will need to be addressed before this is given the tick. ALT4 and variants are rejected, not just because of being factually incorrect, but also because they're not directly supported by the article: the hooks claim that "very few believe it is real" but the article instead claims that the villagers did not believe it was real, rather than it being a general statement. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 02:51, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If that's talking about the one sentence in the use as attraction section, I've put the website of the village as a proof. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 23:07, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@AlphaBetaGamma: To make this clear: ALT0 is currently unsupported as there isn't a cited sentence in the article about it being claimed to be Jesus's tomb (and in fact, the newly-referenced sentence does not address this concern). ALT4 is also unsupported as the hook and article do not agree. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 02:43, 12 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 06:26, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Approving ALT0 only: it should meet the guidelines since the hook merely says the (true) fact that a village claims that Jesus was buried there, and not claiming that he actually was buried there. The rest of the review is per Piotrus. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:37, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
