Eastern Kentucky?

[edit]

There needs to be a standalone article on the floods in Eastern Kentucky on July 27-28, 2022. It DEFINITELY meets WP:LASTING as the local news media continues to mention the floods even almost two years later. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 23:18, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone share their thoughts on this? At the very least, shouldn’t the EKY flood section be expanded? Or should there be a full article devoted to Eastern Kentucky? Because over 40 people died , millions of dollars in damage was done, and I know for a fact that people will be talking about this for years, I happen to also know that WYMT-TV had a special segment last July to mark the one year anniversary of the floods. So it definitely meets WP:LASTING if it’s still being talked about a year, two years later. And the floods killed twice as many people as the floods in West Virginia back in 2016 did (and the 2016 flood still occasionally gets mentioned on local news and it’s been nearly eight years.)
And also as a side note; I am also the IP editor behind 108.147.10.55, and I made that comment about two months before registering. (As I eluded to in my edit summary, I had previously made the comment immediately above this as an IP address too, but it was a different IP, and I re-attributed it to my username).
@WeatherWriter @Ks0stm @Sir MemeGod @TornadoLGS @Hurricanehink @United States Man. Pinging almost everyone that I know edits weather articles for their input on this. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 03:23, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yea, that's the tricky part of dealing with broader flood articles like this, and their scope. Personally, I think there should be yearly articles like Floods in 2022, which would be a parallel to Tropical cyclones in 2022. Or perhaps even Floods in the United States (2022), splitting up the currently-existing Floods in the United States (2000–present) into ones for each year. That way, individual significant events would have articles, as WestVirginiaWX (talk · contribs), without removing other valid content. I'm not sure the best approach for this article, as there are several options, but I don't think it should stay as it is. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:04, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you on that, and I was honestly going to probably bring that up too (and probably will on the WP:WEATHER talk page.) I think there should be yearly flood articles. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 00:52, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:WEATHER talk page. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 17:50, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just as a note: the talk page on WP: WEATHER has been archived, presumably by ClueBot III. So refer to this talk page or revive the old one at WP:WEATHER. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 07:20, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’ll also add; apparently there was an article about the floods and someone deleted it. But it gets better; that someone who apparently AfD’d it @Cabin134 was a sock puppet of @Pitzzaboy. So a sockpuppet had deleted a perfectly good article. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 06:31, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And as a side note: the AfD result was keep. But this sock 🧦 unilaterally merged the EKY flood article WITHOUT consensus. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 18:48, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’m going to ping a few Weather editors on this one in case they forgot (the discussion happened before my time here at Wikipedia); particularly ones who were involved in that discussion (but some who weren’t). @Hurricanehink @WeatherWriter @Elijahandskip @ChessEric @GeorgeMemulous @ChrisWx @Ks0stm @HurricaneCovid @HikingHurricane @Sir MemeGod West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 18:52, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, the sock master is globally indeffed. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 18:53, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I want to further reiterate my opinion that there should be a separate (more in depth) article that solely focuses on the flooding that occurred in Kentucky. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 19:05, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, you have a few options to base it off of. There's List of California floods and Flood history in Chehalis, Washington that serve as the best examples of existing floods for a particular area. So forewarning, it might be a fair bit of work. But it's totally doable. Start by getting the entries in the category (probably some tropical cyclones), and then do research to find other events. Do you need help setting it up? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:31, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What I am referring to is an article specifically about the July 28, 2022 flood in Kentucky. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 21:01, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you deem this article necessary, then go ahead and work on it. I'm not really into helping with flooding articles. ChessEric 01:59, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not really the type to create new articles; rather, I prefer to edit existing ones and drafts of them. Otherwise there would already be a draft for this. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 02:49, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever you need help with I can help with, I don't have much to do at the moment (or for the rest of the week at that). Sir MemeGod ._. (talk - contribs - created articles) 04:37, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Starting up a draft called Draft:July 2022 Eastern Kentucky flood and getting the basic layout going would probably be a good start. Once I know the layout; I can start filling it in. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 04:52, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I need to go to sleep soon, but tomorrow I can start working on it. :) Sir MemeGod ._. (talk - contribs - created articles) 05:00, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, you meant make a new article for that. If you deem it necessary, then go ahead and make it. Don't be afraid to make new articles; WP:BOLD is a thing you know. ChessEric 21:18, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is exactly what I might. West Virginia WXeditor (talk) 21:28, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Still reiterating my support for a separate standalone article focused on Eastern Kentucky and the surrounding areas. Have created a draft for it. Pings: @ChrisWx @Hurricanehink @Sir MemeGod @WeatherWriter @TornadoLGS @GeorgeMemulous 🌀 Hurricane Clyde 🌀 (talk) 04:46, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Split?

[edit]

I am asking for everyone’s opinion on whether or not the Kentucky section should be split into its own article. I already have a draft started. @Hurricanehink @WeatherWriter @ChessEric @GeorgeMemulous @TornadoLGS @Sir MemeGod 🌀 Hurricane Clyde 🌀 (talk) 18:12, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Support I don't see why not. GeorgeMemulous (talk) 18:13, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
