Department head position?
[edit]Article describes her as the first woman to serve as department head for the Geosciences Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (also lists it as a position she has held from 2013-Present), however when I looked into this she is not listed as the director here https://www.umass.edu/earth-geography-climate/who-contact, instead as a graduate advisor InsomniaOpossum (talk) 19:18, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- Good catch, except she isn't a graduate advisor she is "Geosciences Graduate Program Director" so she is the head of the graduate program, and not the Department Head for the Earth, Geographic, and Climate Sciences Department within the College of Natural Sciences. I will adjust this. AuroraTiara (talk) 00:57, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
Edit Request: Grammar and Punctuation Corrections
[edit]![]() | This edit request by an editor with a partial block from editing this page has now been answered. |
Requested Edits:
1. Fix Punctuation in Early Life and Education Section: Current Text: "While enrolled in a course on glaciers and the pleistocene, Professor Lawrence D. Taylor inspired her to study glacial geology and paleoclimatology."
Proposed Text: "While enrolled in a course on glaciers and the Pleistocene, Professor Lawrence D. Taylor inspired her to study glacial geology and paleoclimatology."
Rationale: Capitalize “Pleistocene” as it’s a proper noun referring to a geological epoch, per MOS:CAPS and standard geological naming conventions.
2. Correct Grammar in Early Life and Education Section:
Current Text: "Brigham-Grette utilized this technique to correlate regional stratigraphic sections in order to resolve glacial geologic and sea level history."
Proposed Text: "Brigham-Grette utilized this technique to correlate regional stratigraphic sections to resolve glacial geologic and sea-level history."
Rationale: Replace “in order to” with “to” for conciseness, as it’s equally clear (per MOS:CONCISE). Add a hyphen to “sea level” when used as a compound adjective before “history” for grammatical accuracy (per MOS:HYPHEN). Funtiberry (talk) 15:11, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
- #1 is moot as the sentence was redone in a different way. The first part of #2 was already done by someone else. I've done the second part of #2. * Pppery * it has begun... 21:28, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
