Crime section: bias and untrustworthy source issues

[edit]

The crime section needs editing and further review by other editors. Issues I've noted on reading include the quoting of a Verdens Gang/ VG newspaper. VG newspapers are one of the top highest selling corporate newspapers in Norway and like The Sun, or Daily Mail in the UK it has been accused of tabloid sensationalism. In the reliable sources board for Wikipedia here Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard- the Mail was barred from use as a source. A look at sources in countries like Norway to investigate sensationalism and misquoting should be done as well I believe- just because it isn't in english does not mean it should not be scrutinized to see if it should be used. For example an investigation by NiemanLab here- https://www.niemanlab.org/2023/08/a-norwegian-newspapers-transparency-portal-aims-to-anticipate-and-answer-reader-questions-about-reporting/ states that VG has not been fulfilling it's duty to quote sources correctly. Further the article quoted concerning foreign born murderers of partners in Norway with the source titled De ble drept av sine kjære". VG Nett- does not discuss victims either. The original news interactive story appears to state that 'foreign partners as victims and perpetrators are high'. The crime section not mentioning this indicates minimum a level of negligence concerning encyclopaedic writing and maximum a purposeful obfuscation of the real situation- not mentioning foreign born partners-as victims from the same sentence of the source is almost criminally negligent and in my view constitutes bias. I am moving to add a sourcing and bias banner to the subsection as of now due to the above reasons. Next editor please review as well, Norwegian is not my first language, but I am incredibly familiar with journalism studies and I do not think it takes a brain surgeon to assert that via a google-translate- a sensationalist site being used for foreign-to-Norway individuals as a means to paint them as problematic for white Norwegians when they actually (via the same article) appear to victimize foreign women more- is irresponsible concerning previous editors that have written this intentionally or not- concerning accuracy and explication for the reader, which should be an innate experience for the reader due to key context not being excluded. Crime is not just about criminals, it is also about victims. Best, flare Flarehayr (talk) 20:38, 23 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
