The clinical psychology article has much more information, links, and provides a global view of the topic. The clinical mental health counseling article reads like an essay about mental healthcare with a focus on the USA, specifically North Carolina. • Support and create a new section for some of the information in this article to go on the article where it will be merged into.

  • Support, but clinic mental health counseling article will need to be much abridged during this move. At the moment it looks like a complete mess trying to describe every aspect and every organization in its field; way too many subheadings. It looks like only the licensing section is majorly biased towards North Carolina focus, the other sections seem to have a more broad view.

Support. The Clinical mental health counseling article is a mess and it will take a long time to complete the merge. ImproperlyPeeledOrange (talk) 03:28, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Work/function-wise, there is certainly overlap with 'counseling psychology' but 'clinical mental health counseling' is not part of 'counseling psychology;' rather, it's under the umbrella of the counseling profession (very closely related to, but separate from, the profession of psychology). 72.227.101.76 (talk) 17:01, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose, noting that Clinical mental health counseling is just one form of Counseling psychology (the others being listed in Counseling psychology#Subcategories of Counseling), and that the current proposal would unbalance the target. Rather, I suggest leaving the pages in WP:SUMMARY format but to improve Clinical mental health counseling. Klbrain (talk) 16:00, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose on the same grounds as Klbrain. If this is an established variety of therapy, it should have it's own entry. However, most of the material on the page should be merged with the existing entries on counselling. The new version of the page should be very much focused on what makes this kind of counselling unique from other kinds. However, I get the sense that "clinical mental health counseling" is just a miscellaneous bucket that counseling without another established category gets put into. A successor to the more DSM-linked "personal adjustment counseling" (a treatment for "adjustment disorder") category. Transient-understanding (talk) 05:30, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Counselling Psychology should note it is about Counselling in the USA

[edit]

the Counselling Psychology page should note that it refers specifically to counselling and counselling professions in the USA and does not cover differences in other countries. The title and the introduction to the page do not specify that this is a regional article and could easily be interpreted as being about counselling generally or making generalisations about counselling as a professions which could be misleading to readers. Thank you very much for your post. The spelling of 'Counseling' in the name of the page invalidly sets the scene, which I have rudimentarily corrected. Of course there is so much more to be done.John Desmond (talk) 11:42, 12 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that the above comment, 'Counselling Psychology should note that it is about Counselling (sic) in the USA' identified a fundamental problem with the article which my reply to the comment and my last edit illuminate.John Desmond (talk) 10:12, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 18 April 2025

[edit]

Counseling psychologyCounselling psychology – I request that the file be renamed and moved to 'Counselling psychology' because, as Orlans and Van Scoyoc (2009) documented, the discipline to which the file relates is international and internationally 'counselling' is spelt with two 'll's. Strong oppose. The Article titles policy is crystal clear on this (at WP:TITLEVAR). We do not change an article's title solely to switch between national varieties of English. None of the exceptions apply here. To the contrary, precisely because this is an international topic with no strong national ties, any variety of English is acceptable and once one is established it must be maintained in the title and used consistently throughout the article body. --MYCETEAE 🍄‍🟫—talk 19:54, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Bizarrely, this article opens with a declaration that this is an international discipline but will only cover the practice in the US. If for some reason this article remains US-centric, it would be ludicrous to impose the "international" spelling. This may become moot as the article can certainly be expanded to cover other countries. So either this article is US-centric, which calls for maintaining the current (US) spelling, or it's not, which also calls for maintaining the current spelling per TITLEVAR. --MYCETEAE 🍄‍🟫—talk 02:05, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
