Article needs cleanup

[edit]

This article is a giant mess, with multiple tables presenting the same season-by-season results in various different formats and unnecessary statistics cluttering the content. And what is the point of a redundant 2025 "Venues" table when the "Teams" table already contains a "Home ground" column? We should prune the tables (starting with the "Venues" table) and get rid of non-noteworthy stats per WP:NOTSTATS. Yuvaank (talk) 22:06, 26 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

True, this must be done by XC editors asap. This page should de-cluttered without trimming any valuable information Editking100 (talk) 14:53, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

XC editors kindly correct this error. Thank you. Editking100 (talk) 14:44, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Editking100, states are generally not linked per WP:GEOLINK. Vestrian24Bio 16:34, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
okay, remove it for Pbks and Srh too. As it doesn't follow what you say. Ty. Editking100 (talk) 16:48, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, there are lot of things that needs to be done on this page. Vestrian24Bio 07:33, 30 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly update the information acc. to IPL, BCCI

[edit]

The city of Punjab Kings is New Chandigarh. As per mentioned in IPL, BCCI and JioStar (official broadcaster) communications. Also the MYSS/New PCA stadium is located in New Chandigarh. Kindly change it to New Chandigarh from (Mullanpur, Mohali) which is currently written in the table in Teams section. Thank you Editking100 (talk) 14:50, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Editking100, Wikipedia presents stuff based on WP:INDEPENDENT sources and not WP:PRIMARY sources such as IPL, BCCI or even the ICC. Vestrian24Bio 16:37, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But the New PCA stadium (home ground of Pbks) is located in New Chandigarh, which lies in Mohali District not the Mohali city. Isn't it an error? Editking100 (talk) 17:00, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It should be Mullanpur. Vestrian24Bio 07:48, 30 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Can you please add that the Indian Premier League (IPL) champion will qualify for the Champions League T20 or Global Super T20? Clt20 used to be a tournament where champions from other leagues played against each other and gsl is same but it started in 2024 by West Indies cricket board not officaly recognised like clt20, similar to the FIFA Club World Cup. 178.51.0.153 (talk) 18:26, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request to add a new section: "Economic Impact and Global Reach" User:Sireenyadav89|Sireenyadav89]] (talk) 13:01, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to propose the addition of a new section titled **"Economic Impact and Global Reach"** to the Indian Premier League article. While the article extensively covers teams, seasons, and records, it lacks a comprehensive overview of IPL’s massive economic footprint and global influence. Below is the proposed content, supported by credible sources:

The **Indian Premier League (IPL)** has evolved from a domestic cricket tournament into a global economic phenomenon. According to a 2023 report by *Brand Finance*, the IPL's brand value surged to **$10.7 billion**, reflecting a 77% growth over two years following its expansion to 10 teams.[1] In the same year, an EY–BCCI joint study estimated that the IPL contributed over **₹11,500 crore** (~$1.4 billion) to India’s GDP, driven by tourism, media, infrastructure, and job creation.[2]

The league’s commercial appeal is evident from its record-breaking media rights deal for the 2023–2027 cycle, sold to **Star India** and **Viacom18** for a staggering **₹48,390 crore** (~$6.2 billion), making it the **second-most valuable sports league globally on a per-match basis**, just behind the NFL.[3]

IPL’s global reach continues to expand, with the 2023 season attracting **over 500 million viewers worldwide**, including significant audiences from the UK, USA, Middle East, and Australia.[4] International stakeholders—including media conglomerates, sports investors like *RedBird Capital*, and global celebrities such as *Shah Rukh Khan* and *Preity Zinta*—have further elevated the league’s global stature.

Additionally, the IPL’s franchise-based model and auction format have become templates for emerging leagues like South Africa’s SA20 and the USA’s Major League Cricket, reinforcing its status as a global trendsetter in sports entertainment.
