Added a sentence about Queen Elizabeth II of the U.K. owning a copy of the toy. I know we can't list everyone who owns one, but it demonstrates the extent of the popularity the toy enjoyed. Also, it goes well next to the Foxworthy quote. I added a reflist for that sentence because otherwise it looks like vandalism :-) Ariadne55 (talk) 02:15, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This claim sounds extremely unlikely. Windsor Castle isn't a private home, it's basically a government building, and members of the Royal Family don't buy tat from Slough Market to hang on the walls. Still, it does have a ref, albeit a weak one, so I've left it in place. --Ef80 (talk) 16:25, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Someone had added "This Fish was also in an episode of The Sopranos as a Christmas Gift from Meadow." but I deleted that, because the article already includes The Sopranos in the list of shows with a Billy Bass, and we don't really want to list details about its role in every show (do we?). --Maltelauridsbrigge (talk) 16:20, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do we really need two similar-looking pictures of the fish singing and not singing? Freezing the mainstream (talk) 05:46, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think so. The movement of the fish is an important feature of the toy. The two photos together give some idea of the way it moves. Ariadne55 (talk) 06:00, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

unused pic

[edit]
100 novelty fish on the wall! 100 novelty fish! Take one down, bass it around--99 novelty fish on the wall...

Seems like kind of a waste to have pics on Wikipedia going (nearly) unused, but who's going to use it if they don't know it's there, and how will anyone find out it's there if it's unused? i'll just leave this here. 71.121.143.182 (talk) 02:38, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think the solution to this is for me to add a Commons Category to the base just as I did here. Danidamiobi (talk) 17:41, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Al Green song royalties

[edit]

I just edited the claim "Green claims he received more royalties from Big Mouth Billy Bass than from any other recordings of the song." which used to be on the page. A number of "fun fact" websites claim that Green made the statement - including this "Life of a Song" entry from FT, which is probably the best available source - but none actually refer to the interview where the quote was supposedly made. However, his songwriting partner Teenie Hodges DID make the statement, and it's recorded in the 2013 independent documentary Mabon "Teenie" Hodges: A Portrait of a Memphis Soul Original which you can watch for yourself.

It's likely Al Green also made more money from the Billy Bass cover than anything else, especially if he and Hodges split the royalties, but it's more accurate to attribute the quote to the person who said it. Hornpipe2 (talk) 19:12, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
