As far as I know, Hinduism does not frown upon homosexuality or homosexual acts. Hinduism is a loose religion open to interpretation. It is not justified to state outright in this article that Hinduism does not condone homosexuality.

Hinduism has as much of a negative bias against homosexuality as any other religion. Recall when Fire was screened? People had fits. 70.186.172.75 (talk) 21:31, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Even today an overwhelming majority of Indians in India have their marriages planned by their parents and other respected family-members, without the consent of the bride and groom": without the consent of the bride and groom? Is that not overstating it? As far as I know, most arranged marriage happens with the consent from bride and groom. Or is it that I'm seeing the narrow picture? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.124.19.140 (talk) 05:33, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Needs way more material and references

[edit]

Much of the article as it stands, I hate to say it, is fluff. The article should be referenced through and through, and strongly guard against WP-OR. It is missing a lot of basic info about arranged marriages - e.g. how the matchmaking actually happens, history, how the institution has evolved, etc. I'll try to do some work on it. --Hunnjazal (talk) 02:35, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added a bunch of content and references. More needs to be done, especially around criticism and other observations. If done cleanly some flavor of the variety of practices would be good. And a picture. Really needs a picture. --Hunnjazal (talk) 07:25, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Match Criteria

[edit]

The following passage under "Match Criteria" is contains comments which can likely be considered sexist and based primarily on personal opinion. Without proper referencing of sources, the passage should be removed.

"It also depends on if the male and/or female smells like kurri. Not only that but if she is beat, then don't bother because it has been proven that ugly girls often have low self esstem. They are the worst!" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.147.198.24 (talk) 00:00, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy over misuse of marriage laws in India

[edit]

Removed the "Misuse of Marriage laws in India" section for two reasons: One, it's off-topic in this article; the article Dowry law in India is more closely related to the topic, though there may be a better choice. And two, the removed section addressed only one side of the controversy, violating WP:NPOV. CassandraToday (talk) 02:59, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
