Infobox portrait

[edit]

@Muboshgu I noticed you reverted my edit where I placed an image of Schwarzenegger in 1984 into the infobox, replacing one from 2019. You said it's "standard to use a more current image for a living subject." What is the policy for this? Jimmy Carter's article has an image from 1978, so clearly exceptions exist. ―Howard🌽33 17:28, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

POTUS is a standard exception, where we use their official portraits. I think the current image is better than the 1984 image. See if you can form a WP:CONSENSUS for the older image. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:36, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is a general convention to have a good quality image that most reflects the current appearance of a living person as they go though life in the infobox. Other images related to a stage of life usually are in the appropriate place in the article. After death there will be a discussion of what representative image to use to replace it. Carter as a former president chose to use the official presidential portrait because of that. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:36, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think this should be laid out in some kind of policy page. "General convention" is going to invite unnecessary arguments. ―Howard🌽33 17:41, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It generally leads to a discussion and some local consensus reached of what to use in a particular article. It isn't a hard rule. A lot of times getting good free-use images is very hard and we need to go with what we can get. When we have many good images people will have differing opinions on which is best to use and a lot of times the latest isn't it. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:49, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome to suggest an addition to MOS:LEADIMAGE at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Images and see if it gets consensus. That said, I agree with the 2019 image in the lead box; Schwarzenegger is still active and a more recent photo is more representative than a 40-year-old photo. Categories Listings

[edit]

Should Arnold Schwarzenegger’s categories listings at the bottom of the Wikipedia article write Austrian People of Czech descent and/or American People of Czech/Austrian-Czech descent as it’s clear when reading the Wikipedia articles about his parent’s ancestors. New Lead Image

[edit]

There is currently a disagreement over which photo is a better choice for the lede. Please share your preference with regards to either of the following 2 images below.

A(Current)
B

Emiya1980 (talk) 23:54, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

They are both made around the same time, but the one on the left being slightly older by 3-4 months. But the one on the left has a relatively higher resolution. Jetwindy (talk) 23:58, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I vote for B. It is shot from a more conventional angle which makes it more appropriate for purposes of lede. Differences in resolution quality is negligible for purposes of being a deciding factor between the two. Emiya1980 (talk) 00:04, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We need to get more people to break the tie. I hope more editors can reply to all of this. Jetwindy (talk) 00:05, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I also understand how you can say the resolution is negligible. Because there is not much of a resolution difference. But when you go to Wikimedia Commons, you can see which one is higher res. Jetwindy (talk) 00:07, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Same. I think current is best. Voting Current. Jetwindy (talk) 00:43, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Agree with Current - A -- Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 01:41, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is to all people, It seems like A is going to win the conversation. So lets keep it like that. Jetwindy (talk) 20:21, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is a sentence in the article: "After playing the title character in the science fiction film The Terminator (1984), he starred in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and three other sequels."

Should it not be FOUR other sequels? Because there are now 6 Terminator movies. 209.91.177.215 (talk) 18:20, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done It is correct as written. He did not appear in one sequel: Terminator Salvation. Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 20:32, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
