Translation trouble.

[edit]

I have temporarily removed the sentence "Mahnschriften embellished hearsay credit report." from the article, because as far as I can tell, it's half translated from German and I can't figure out what it might mean. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mooeena (talkcontribs) 00:44, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Citation for the quote

[edit]

I found something that looks like it could be used as a reference for the quote in this article here. - Prana1111 (talk) 19:46, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

time of event

[edit]

The German original says: " auff den abend, umb VII ur urplötzlichen verendert worden," But the provided translation says "and then around 9 pm," How does VII become 9 pm?

Overall, the translation is not very good. Nowhere does it mention WHITE balls - only Black.

My translation of the first part of the pamphlet is:

“In the year 1566, on the 27th of the Hay Month [July], after the sun (as Pliny aptly called it, the light of the world) had shone pleasantly and warmly on the clear, and purified sky. Towards its descent, in the evening, around the 7th hour, it was suddenly transformed, it took a different shape and colour. For at first, it lost all its rays and gleam, then it was no larger than the full moon’s disk, and finally it seemed as though it wept blood, in a black sky and field behind it, seen by all sorts of people in the city and countryside.

Similarly, after the sun’s setting, the moon, which at that time was not far from its fullness, was also in light and appearance through the night almost red and blood-coloured, standing in the sky. The following morning, which was the sun’s day [Sunday], the sun rose again at about the fourth hour, with the same shape and appearance as when it had previously gone down and set, and it reflected on houses, streets, and other things in such a way that they seemed reddish, fiery, and bloody. Furthermore, on the 7th of August, with the sun’s rising and a little before, many large black spheres were seen in the air, as clouds in front of the sun, which moved with great speed and swiftness, and then turned back towards one another as if they were fighting a battle, some of which became red and fiery, and then burned out (burst) and extinguished." 198.251.52.192 (talk) 15:55, 23 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
